Playstation Meeting trailer: See the Future. Feb. 20th [Will Be Livestreamed]

Prediction: high profile third party sequel will debut at this. Non-exclusive. This isn't from a source exactly, but conjecture based on impending announcements. I have a specific game in my head. Happy to disclose to a mod.
Would disclosing your hunch compromise the secrecy of those announcements?

I kind of hope they drop the pretentious faux-artsy bullshit this time, honestly. This ad, the baby doll, the "This is living." ad. All of that crap. I'd rather funny, charming, or informative ads.

I kinda like them, especially the Lynch ones from the PS2 days. "The Third Place!"
What would be the alternative? I can only think of the ones with faux-families with fake smiles having a grand old time in front of the TV, which makes me sick to the stomach.

Edit: I feel like the PS3 ones didn't work as well because the system was late to the party and therefore didn't offer anything new and exciting, which the ads were proclaiming the system had.

Are both the XBox Next and PS4 being released this year? In all my memory, there has usually been an 18 month gap between its official unveiling and its release. I remember the PS2 being unveiled in the winter of 1999, well a year before its release in America in October of 2000. Do both companies feel backed into a corner that they'd release their new systems with less than a year to go? Alot of analysts expected that they would at least be unveiled at last year's E3 to give a good 18 months for pre-hype.

While I agree with you that Sony should steer clear of artsy commercials as you called them, "Double Life" is often hailed as one of the best commercials of all times.

It's one of the rare commercials (if not the only one) that has managed to make me feel something while watching it.

And yes, the infamous baby/doll were a complete and utter bizarre crap.

I got the feeling they were playing a game of chicken and for that, it gave E3 last year a very awkward vibe. However, I still think it is well in their plans that they decided to release the console within a year of reveal.

Before anyone says anything, I know, I'm too late. Damn timezones.

Can someone make a spoiler-free thread linking to the live stream for people like me who can't watch it live? The same thing was done for E3 which I really appreciated. I would love to watch the conference without any idea whats about to happen, when I come home from work.

Just reposting this, in case it got missed in the Kaz-flood. Thanks in advance, guys.

I really hope Sony has at least 1 amazing new IP to show. Racers don't really count for me though I am interested in whatever Evolution does next. I just want to see a great new 3rd person game.

The VGA's carried over this awkwardness aswell imo, I only remember Dark Souls 2 and Phantom Pain as far as trailers/announcements when usually the biggest games of the following year get big exposure there. We don't even know if either of those games is 2013 and I think Dark Souls was said to be likely 2014.

I just think they've seen that shoppers don't actually want to wait that long tbh. Look at other hardware reveals where they announce the thing and you can have it in yours hands after a few weeks or maybe a few months.

I can see why they can't just walk out on stage and say "PS4, $450 in all good stores and some bad ones as well, from Monday. Roll the VT for dem gaems.", but similarly I don't want to have to wait 18 months between being told about something I want to buy and then being able to buy it. I want it yesterday. I cannot be more excited about a product than in the first few weeks while I'm still covered in splooge from all the announcements trailers and interviews.

I don't need 18 months to watch all the trailers, I don't need 18 months to save up, I don't need 18 months to hear about all the cool bits the system can do. Turn that trickle of info up to 11 and feed it to me over 6 months rather than 18 Don't let a single week pass without a new trailer, previews of games, interviews with developers, blaa blaa. Have the damned thing in the forefront of my mind for 6 solid months.

I know that isn't going to happen, and never will. It's bad enough that on February 20th they are going to say "Yo, PS4 motherfuckers, aww yeahhhhhhh" and that as an EU dweller I'm going to almost certainly have to wait 12 months while the USA might only have to wait 9 months.

Isn't this what Microsoft did last gen with the 360? Wasn't the reveal around e3 with the full release the following November? Cant remember if Sony did something similar, its been so long, feels like an actual generation ago...

EA said Fifa will be revealed in May
“We’re also investing in Gen 4 console technologies and content. We’ve signalled that we’re working on the next editions of our two biggest franchises in Battlefield and FIFA. And, we look forward to discussing these programs and many others with you when we provide our fiscal year 14 guidance in May.”

PS3 was initially unveiled on May 16, 2005 and was available in Japan from 11 November 2006, USA from 17 November 2006, UK and Ireland from 16 March 2007 and rest of EU from 23 March 2007.

X360 was initially unveiled on May 12, 2005 and was available in the US November 22, 2005, December 2, 2005, in the EU and Japan December 10, 2005.

So yeah, the PS3 was 545 days (1 year, 5 months, 27 days) from announce to launch in first market or 670 days (1 year, 10 months, 1 day) from announce to first availability in the EU.

The X360 on the other hand was 195 days (6 months, 11 days) from announce to first region and 213 days (6 months, 29 days) from announce to last region (Japan).

In short, yes.

Could be a while, but given the WiiU you have to think they are coming out towards the end of this year and early next for EU.

It's probably clear to Sony then that Microsoft's way is the right way. Wish Nintendo had followed suit. You just cant wait a year+ anymore.

Remember when MS announced the slim and that it would be going on sale immediately? What if they did that this time, too?

Then they would most likely have a PS4 out and about with nothing to play on it...unless it was fully BC...which it wont be.

Having said that, if it did happen we are more than ready with gifs.

That was a redesign, it always happens within a week or two to stop the current sales from tanking for too long. New systems need a bit of time to promote beforehand, unless you're apple, but most of theirs are redesigns too.
However, if it has BC, MS could possibly replace their top end bundle with the new system without any price hike, that would put them in a very safe position in their home turf.

HWinfo.com on Oct 8 2012 updated their list of supported products:

AMD Fusion: SUMO, WRESTLER, TRINITY DEVASTATOR/SCRAPPER, RICHLAND, THEBE, KRYPTOS, Kabini, Samara, Kaveri, Pennar.
HWinfo updates their support list when updated by AMD which means they are all coming in 2013. Both Kryptos and Thebe are AMD Fusion SoCs

PS4 will be a failure if it is not released before black friday or beginning of holidays shopping season

anyway more generic parts in the PS4 will allow for a more streamlined and faster set up of product lines and QC in the factories so there should be no reason that PS4 will take as long to reach market as PS2/3 did

Same here. Perfect would be around 3 months from first reveal to being able to buy the box in your local store.

Since that might be in summertime, I'd forgive them releasing in autumn.

But knowing, it's still one year before I can buy a PS4 immediately kills all my hype for that thing now.

Well, my backlog for the PS3 is long enough, so probably that's kind of a good thing.. ;)

Battlefield 4.

Sony and EA getting all cuddly to compete with Activision / MS COD love.

Believe.

I wonder if the cross-generational CoD or BF would allow multiplayer matches between PS3 and PS4 users (and 360 and 720 users), or will the next-gen online architectures (and game code) be too different for that to happen?
The user accounts will already most probably carry over, so it would give the games a good kickstart regarding the online population on the new systems.

I doubt it.

Why many of EA's customers won't upgrade right away

"The reality is, is that fiscal year 2014 will still be a fairly large gen-three if there's a console business that comes in at the tail end of the year, mainly because a lot of our titles are built around sports calendars. And so a FIFA, a Madden, an NCAA, an NHL title, all come out aligned with the sports calendar. And if a next-gen console doesn't come out until next Christmas, most people won't wait. They'll want to be involved in getting those titles early, because their friends are all playing those titles, and because they're being played on a current generation's consoles.

"An important thing to remember is that next-gen consoles will most likely not be backwards compatible… And if you [play] multiplayer on a game, you'll most likely not be able to play with someone on a different generation. And so if you're a FIFA player and, and the soccer season's starting in August, and all your friends are playing FIFA, you're going to want to be on the same box that they're on. So if they all go out and buy a gen-four box if it comes out at Christmas, then you'll most likely do it. If they all hold on and continue to play on third-generation, you'll probably not see that box purchase until after the soccer season's over.

"And I think that works for us positively in both ways. It helps us continue to sell gen-three products, and it will help us sell gen-four product as that cycle finally gets into place."
