My problem with that Kaz tweet, and it may have been mentioned, is that Doritos are NOT potato chips, they're tortilla chips.

True. But I'm dying for Geoff to point that out, then Kaz can come back with 'Well i guess you'd know' or something.

Also, I hope they put this up PSN in 1080p afterwards (assuming some tech demos/game sneak peeks/sizzle reel). Live stream will be no good for that.

The typeface currently used is Nimbus Sans (Bold I think). They still use the original PlayStation logo for trade shows (GDC for example) and in certain documents.

They should just call it PlayStation. If they end up making a fifth console in eight years, you can go back to PS5 no problem.

Finally!

I follow Sony religiously since I got my ps1. So hyped!

But I'm also nervous. I want/need this to be awesome. After the event I'd better be looking for my jaw. It's been ages since that happened...

They should go with The Fast and Furious naming scheme

After Playstation (note the lowercase 's' to differentiate it from the original), they could have Play 5 and Station 6.

Shame we missed 2 Play 2 Station and PlayStation: Tokyo Drift.

At least make it look less pathetic, we have marketing teams for that right?

It's actually not a big deal at all. The Gaf hive mind just decided to make a big deal about it (it was funny at the time) and all the gaf sheep follow along with it (like usual). It's disappointing that geoff probably wont post on here anymore. But he probably has the right idea

Anyways, I wish 90% of threads didn't have to involve this discussion in some way, it's so tired/immature.

You joke, but I wouldn't mind a console called the "Drift." I'd buy a PS Drift. Sounds like a handheld to me though. Better name than the Vita IMO, which sounds more fitting for a home console.

Pachter said things again. This time to Bloomberg.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-...update-in-push-to-keep-consoles-relevant.html

Sony “is 100 percent certain to announce the PlayStation 4” at a Feb. 20 event, said analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities in Los Angeles, citing his checks with game developers and retailers.

Sony’s new console would replace the nearly 7-year-old PlayStation 3. It will feature graphic chips developed by Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) and processors capable of rendering games at 240 frames a second, Pachter said.

"two hundred and forty U.S. frames per second"

The PS3 chipset could render a game at 240fps, Mr Pachter.

Yeah. These things are kind of pointless.

But where something like '240fps' could actually show up...maybe the new camera? Two interleaved 120hz PSeyes feeding 240 (alternate angle) frames per second for Move/motion tracking? I dunno. Random thought.

Holding on too much to the past shows a lack of vision for the future. While a nice blue motif on a simple logo harkens back to PS2 in a not so overt way, grabbing the entire font and such of PS2 would just be a sad move IMO.

Guys, you realize the meeting is in NY and not Tokyo, right? This means:

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about that the Playstation meeting is in NYC and that the PS4 is developed by western developers for western tastes, is not going to want to purchase PS4, nor will they purchase any of Sony's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move. The PS4 is nothing more than a dudebroshooter console in the Japanese public's eyes and it'll sell as good as the Xbox did in Japan.

Sony, publicly apologize and cancel the Playstation meeting in New York or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Japanese people like handhelds, and japanese developers want the less powerful machine possible.
Sony presented Vita in Japan in 2011 and it sells like shit anyway.
PS4 will have even worse japanese support in the first years because of the increasing budgets required to develop for. NA market is the key, and is where microsoft dominates, Sony need to do something. Japan presentation with western games is pointless.

Hah.
