I just took this screenshot that I posted on my Twitter. And people these days wonder why I play less and less...

CS50uE2UsAAxN7z.png

This is basically a whole day of work at my part time job. Part time being the keyword, I just cannot afford to spend such a huge chunk of my money on one single game. $90 for a videogame is fucking mental, it being Fallout or not won't change my mind lol. Canada's game pricing is insane these days. Handheld games too are overpriced to the point that they almost cost as much as a console game did before our dollar got all messed up...

http://www.amazon.de/dp/B00YSOD3RG/

I'm not sure you should be complaining.

edit: Reading the other thread, yes I know you shouldn't just convert the prices. But here in Germany they just bumped the prices for new games up too, just because.

I can't open this link at all lol.

EDIT: yeah it seems to be going nuts everywhere. still not happy about the 33% price raise in games aha

Huh, strange.

Just not too long ago I used to import games from Canada (via VG+) to save money. And I saved a lot by doing that.

Recently I started renting games online.

For example I got Danganronpa AE for 7,50€ (~CDN$11) and could keep it for a week.

I'm also renting games from my local library.

Would it be cheaper for you to import? Is there something that restricts you from doing so, like customs making you pay so it isn't worth it?
Also PS4 being region free and all buying games from other regions PSN store could be a good idea too.
But yeah, games ain't exactly the cheapest method to pass time.

I totally would if it wasn't for the huge file sizes for console games. Most of my handheld titles are digital just so I can save a few bucks, and the sizes aren't so bad. Now when games are 40+GB with a couple more in patches, my bandwidth limit just won't allow me to buy the games digitally. I mean I could do it still, but then I'd have to pay for the extra usage fees, and in the end I'd end up paying more than I would if I had bought the game physically ahaha.

Release date shipping is blessed. But not when games are this expensive in general.

FYI PS4 discs install the full game's size unto one's PS4, don't forget that console games these days tend to come with Day 1 patches.
I get what you mean about limited bandwidth though.

It looks like they have modified the Canadian price to match what it would be in US dollars after converting from Canadian dollars. This is probably to prevent US people from importing their games from Canada (saving money off the cost of the game in the US), as much as it is to obtain more money from Canadian gamers.

Sucks all around, Canadian gamers get charged more per game then they were before. What REALLY sucks is that if/when the Canadian dollar comes back around do you think these games are dropping in price? Yeah I don't think so either.

I don't know about them, but personally if I import stuff from the US/Canada/Japan to the UK I have to pay VAT plus a handling fee of £8 if anything (well, not books) that costs over £15 gets "caught".

£15 works out at around $23 usd (or 2800 yen) at the moment, but postage counts towards that, which means actually it can hit pretty much anything.

I don't mind paying the VAT, but I do balk at paying the £8 handling fee, because depending on what you're ordering and how "lucky" you are it can double the cost of some items - I bought a CD once that cost me £14 with free postage included, but the exchange rate changed between the time when I ordered it and the time when customs intercepted it so they thought it cost over £15. I had to pay them something like £3 VAT (which I didn't mind) but then pay them £8 handling on top of that. That means I had to pay them £11 to get them to release a £14 CD. It's ridiculous. And even if I had disputed it they would only have refunded the charge for the VAT, not the handling fee, so it isn't even worth it (I've done that before, once. I cba to do that ever again).
If I could go to the local post office and pay them the VAT ahead of time in exchange for telling them to fuck off with the handling fee I would. But I can't.

So anything I order I either take pot luck with hoping it won't get caught, or I have to assume it will get caught and add that onto the price to see if I'm saving anything, or it already has the fees built in (Amazon.com does this. Their customs charge handling stuff works out about the same as paying our post office, it just goes to them instead).
Alternatively you can order from someone who marks stuff down, but then when the stuff you order gets utterly trashed during delivery (hai there DHL (I still think they did it on purpose...)) you can't claim anything back because supposedly the item never cost anything in the first place.

Cannot bring myself to care about this, given that there's no chance it gets funded.

At least play the demo, then check back as the IG is almost done and if it is nearing its goal pledge.
Furthermore they did say that if the IG doesn't reach its goal they won't collect any payment from anyone.

I downloaded Dragon Fin Soup too, but haven't had time to play. Impressions would be great!

I suppose that means you can use them on PS4 as well, even if it doesn't explicitly say so..

I wish they'd let us use our own uploaded avatars. But then that'd mean less money for them.

Hmm, need some thoughts other then my own. I have a little cash that I can use to get a game on the cheaper side currently I'm considering getting Dying Light or Far Cry 4 but I'm having a hard time choosing one. I'm looking for a solid/good open first person action game.

I love Zombies and the Dying Light demo has been pretty awesome, unfortunately there is no demo for FC4 but I did really like 3 and the setting is appealing to me. Any suggestions between these two?

Good thing they still don't care about Vita.

Maybe eventually I'd be able to set a premium avatar through the online account management or the mobile app? Yeesh.

One of these days I might get a PS3

Played the game for a good hour or so at this point and....I think its okay :).
-The art style looks fantastic on the Vita screen; really great animations at points and the world is filled with detail (and this is randomly generated too :D!)
-Robin is a great main character; you are dealing with another 'Lost my memory!' trope that is common in RPG's but her personality is very charming and her dialog with the people/creatures around her is great
-The music is very good; with many tunes fitting the scene perfectly alongside sounding very nice (like the forest theme in the second mission)
-The gameplay felt very 'stiff' to me and I get why (as its rooted in DRPG style gameplay) but it felt 'off' to me and I'm still learning how to deal with the controls
-The mechanics to the combat seem to be deep but I'm not sure yet (have to play more)

The only bad thing I encountered so far was it crashing my Vita; after downloading the game and opening it after it finished installing, I completed the introduction level and BAM, the Vita crashed. Had to reset it but just a heads up in case it happens to you Names :).

50 minutes of gameplay of Dragon Fin Soup if anyone is interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NFlveEfN1w

I like it, you have to get used with how the movement works, and it doesn't explain a lot of things from the starts, so you should read the digital manual, but the game is very interesting.

nice! how do you get it out so fast? do you get early access or something?

My review of SUPERBEAT: XONiC is now complete! http://thevitalounge.net/2015/11/03/superbeat-xonic/

I hope you're buying it, VitaGAF.

I really like what I've played thus far and have taken a liking to some of the songs

Seems like a pretty nice game. Still haven't been able to play since I have a midterm tomorrow, but maybe I'll give it a shot tomorrow!

you should buy a ps4.

to you and mellan_Konsten ---- been playing Freedom Wars off and on trying to get 'warmed up' so I can go back to it and not feel like an idiot... but man, is it hard to pick back up. i don't remember it being particularly obtuse when i played it at launch, but now? I have factories i don't understand, i have no idea what is going on with my inventory, let alone crafting.... i can't figure out what weapons are best. Totally feel like an idiot, really.

If we play online can we use mics?

Playing it gives me big Dungeons of Dredmor vibes. So I am really liking it. I need to get used to using the stick to change direction without moving though.

Really? Ugh. Broken launch PS+ game strikes again.

Tried out Dragon Fin Soup. Was exploring a dungeon, got some interesting items and some XP, was just about finished with a quest. While stumbling around with the UI and controls, I accidentally ate my shovel and died. I can't decide if that makes it the best game or the worst game. :)

So, save often, and…don't eat your shovel.

I felt the same way when I played some stages a couple of weeks ago.

I'm all for verbal communication.

You can use the right stick to change direction, so you could use your left hand for movement an your right to change direction :)

You ate a shovel.

Don't expect any sympathy.

It only happened once, but the game does feel a bit choppy on Vita, so maybe the PS3/PS4 versions run a bit better.

Otherwise, the game plays fine and I like how you can use the touch screen and standard buttons with the game at once :).

Y...You can eat a shovel in the game? That is....very odd XD! HOW can someone eat one at all to begin with :')? The game does have a sense of humor, so I guess its another way of that coming out in full force. Thank you for the heads up :).

a console version of a handheld attached to a device that makes it a handheld attached to a fighting stick

Saw other things you can do with that at the link and its impressive; it can act like a screen for other consoles (using the HDMI port) and you can also use it as a controller for other systems (it seems that way; why else would the guy hook up a fighting stick to it?). Thank you for sharing that, really cool thing to find and see :D.

You may be able to eat anything (and I suspect most of it ends in tears). I was looking for a shortcut button to automatically equip things. Pressing Triangle on an item brings up some options to Equip, Trash, or Eat it. When trying to equip the shovel, I chose the wrong box. :(

The day after I got a really good deal on the TTT2 for Wii U stick sent to me I had a situation where I wanted to try it out but didn't have a TV available, so I played games on the Gamepad instead while using a stick that is four times the size of it.

Has anyone had long term dealings with Solaris Japan? I've ordered from them twice (& been very happy with the service) but I've now emailed them 3 times, tried Twitter twice & they still won't answer my query about product details. :(
