No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
I'm pretty excited for this. I've been hungry for more tales ever since I beat Hearts R back in January. I'm hoping the controls will be good for remote play. Did Zestiria have a positive reception when it came out in Japan?

Not really. While half of that comes from the whole fiasco with Alisha, at the same time game had other issues such as world feeling empty, bad camera work during battles.

Game was middle of the road.

Though if you do not mind those things and just want a new Tales game to play, Id imagine you would be fine.

Even on GAF with the whole Alisha situation aside, folks seemed to be mixed about it.

That gif there sums up everyone's feelings on Zestiria.

I guess it will be fun to see what this whole "Alisha situation" ends up being. I mainly just want a new Tales game to play so I'm pretty sure I'll have fun with it. I mean I enjoyed Hearts R and it seems that most people on here disliked that game so I'm sure I'll enjoy Zestiria enough.

Gem Legends Vita - This has to be a phone port because the free to play is obvious despite costing 5 bucks. It wants you to buy stuff from the store with real money. Not really a match 3 but more of a tap the group of gems to make it disappear. Never played Candy Crush but I assume this is how it plays. Skip it.

gsgb4YN.jpg

Pumped BMX + Vita - Trials clone but super simple. Runs great on Vita, cross save, controls great but the courses are so damn boring and there aren't a lot of them. I don't understand why you nail everything else but don't make some interesting courses? Urban Trial Freestyle ran like crap on Vita but it is still better than this. Skip it.

qkqEywV.jpg

Heroes of Loot Vita - $3 for a game that is a lot of fun. Not the deepest game but keeps things interesting enough. Dual stick rougelike? The autoaim on it is terrible and frustrating but you just learn to compensate for it. Gets crazy on higher levels that seems unfair. Overall worth the money. Get it.

Working on a review for Vigilant Gamers of Blood Bowl 2. I have some problems with it but not terrible.

wow Corpse Party for $10? I was thinking more along the lines of $5-$8... Since when is it so expensive?
I'll get it anyway. Or could we expect deeper discounts on horror games later on?

The CP games go on sale once or twice each year, I think the cheapest has always been 50% off.

Yeah, it does the persona thing too where answering questions on occasions will raise stats. Since the game has the whole "Wisdom / Courage / Compassion" sort of system just like Persona did. Even the help your friend answer a question in class event and getting it right raises the Wisdom rating.

So folks who liked that aspect of the Persona series Id imagine would enjoy Xanadu. Though I still really do like the combat system and dungeons are amusing enough.

That sounds like fun, I loved that aspect of Persona 4.

Don't know, game works fine after update, no issues with PS4 also. Though, I have a digital copy. Can't say about physical version.

Probably you should ask the same question in the OT – http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=860638

You get that with every FW update. Unless you see a huge thread with people having those issues it's nothing. They beta test them now for a reason.

The disc reading bug was in the FW before 3.0 and is fixed by restarting.

Not sure about that specific case, but in addition to Massa's specific reason, it's always smart to put an expiration date on anything so they don't have people complaining in X years about some code that's so old it's two internal systems ago. Easier to just put an expiration date on something, even if you never really 'turn it off' till there's a reason to.

Any firmware update will cause some small, small percentage of issues, and those people will always post to the forums (rightfully so). Unless you hear about mass bricking (and you will hear about it) in articles and such there's nothing to fear.

My ps4 is fine.

I updated the console and its fine! Thanks

On another note, can someone with the new cuh-1200 model confirm this for me? The thread about the new model seems dead so I'll quote my post from there

Anyone else has that buzz noise coming out of their console? It's not coil whine, just some sort of buzz noise that sometimes changes and it sounds like it's coming from the front

You can barely hear it when there's no game being played, but when I played the Destiny demo it was very clear if you put your head next to the console

I looked into this on google, but all the complaints about a sound noise are about the disk drive, which was not being used when I played the Destiny demo

edit: I listened to it again and sometimes it makes another (while still making the buzzing noise) that I can't really describe.. just some weird ass noise. I don't know if that sound like plastic expanding from heat or like parts shaking in there or something. That noise also comes from the front of the console

edit 2: I found a video in this thread made by user rrrnzr (thanks!) comparing the noise of the original model and the cuh-1200 model, and it has the sounds I was trying to describe

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adHm00MS5_I
The new model test starts at 4:54

Can anyone else with this model confirm that he's getting these sounds from his PS4?

You know, I realized nobody ever really talks about it, but I'd like to recommend a game currently on sale in the US - EscapeVektor (Vita). It's only $2.10 with ps+, $3.50 w/o this week. I bought it Day 1 full price and loved it.

It's a very hard game to describe -- it's sort of a mix of Qix (that game where you slowly block off areas), a racing game, some action puzzling, and... I don't know, a lot more. Maybe some Pac Man, even.

You race around increasingly complex rectangular levels that look almost like circuit boards, trying to finish/close off areas as fast as you can, while being aggressively chased by various enemies and needing to solve various 'puzzles'.

For example, there might be laser gates scattered around the level that get turned on/off everytime you pass through a different gate. You've got enemies chasing you, so you not only need to not get yourself trapped between a gate and enemies, but you can trick an enemy into going down a 'clear' path, then trigger the gate so they destroy themselves. Or a gate might unlock a door that allows you into a new area, etc. All of this is done at what can feel like breakneck speed at times (if you like time trials, you can also take it slower if you want)...

Anyway, I'd suggest watching some video (make sure to watch some of the later levels, not just simple tutorial/early patterns). You won't totally understand everything going on, but if it looks compelling, then I'd say once you dig in, learn the ropes, you'll dig it, because it's really well crafted.

IIRc the soundtrack was excellent too.

escapevektor-chapter-1-20110929080521888.jpg

It doesn't really compare to many other games... but i'd say if Velocity is your jam, you'd probably appreciate this too. It's not at all similar in gameplay, but it scratches those same itches.

Highly recommended. At this price, it's a steal imo.

It's an otome game.

Dat 20000 kills trophy. I share your pain. I'm almost done with the main story too.

I don't know what an Otome game is.

Yea. 20k kills is insane. My 10k award popped in a postgame dungeon, which was depressing because I'd been hoping i was at like 18k.... I've played hours and hours since then, and if I had to guess I'm around 13k right now.

The biggest saving grace is that there is -so much- post game content, so I'm actually having fun and 'just playing', not grinding it out. Like, there was a battle count trophy in Op Abyss that had me just going back and forth down a hallway for a couple hours to clear it (oh, the pain) but here I'm actually exploring new dungeons and taking down brand new bosses (truly fantastic post-game, actually better than the story imo since it's harder).

Did you preorder at least 2 of the games in order to get the discount?
If not mistaken, no preorder, no 10% discount code.

maybe that's the problem - gotta check my receipts
oh well not a major loss :/

haven't been buying much from PSN lately :/

look forward to Dragon Quest Heroes (2 soon pls.. for Vita)
and Tokyo Xanadu

It's worth $40. Great game.

This. It's worth more than I paid for it really, the amount of enjoyment I got from it.

This is what my research gathered, which is why I paid ten bucks for it. That and I'm pretty sure the 3DS version won't ever get localized.

Good recommendation. Played the WiiWare version too. I liked the retro look and sound of the WiiWare version better but everything else is better in the Vita version. Biggest issue they fixed was that the WiiWare version didn't explain anything. Also the difficulty curve seemed a lot better but I didn't play in the Vita version very far as I felt I already played it.

The Old Hunters is releasing next month and I can't even pre-order it from PSN nor there has been any Collectors Edition announced for EU.
Does Sony usually put DLC up for pre-order? I'd buy both physical and digital but currently it seems like we'll probably get digital only and at launch date?

What exactly is so special about Super Time Force Ultra that makes it tbe only Vita game you cant have open at the same time as otber apps? Like, you cant even open the trophy app without having to close the game. This is weird. No other game does this.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 and Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls also do this.

PlayStation has allowed developers to disable multitasking to pull more "horsepower", and recently a few engines and games have taken advantage.

Huh. Interesting. If this is helping games to run better than they would otherwise then I'm all for this.

So I got my 64 Gb memory card and it is already full. I have a problem . but it feels much better to play big games not worrying too much about space. Anyway. I need for someone to make an adaptor so we can put micro SD cards of 128 Gb. That would be soooo coool.

So that's why Another Episode looked so clean, I was really surprised.

The lack of interest in Trasnfromers Devastation, a game that's looking to be a gameplay hybrid of Bayonetta+Vanquish, in this thread is disheartening.
Thank you for reminding me that it was coming out this month. God my wallet is going to die this month :/

Hey guys is Wipeout 2048 on vita worth $5?
It's worth the initial $40. If you haven't already buy it and the HD+Fury DLC

It looks that clean because the developers give a damn about the Vita. Any game can look good if you put enough effort into it, which is why we don't get these very often.

True, as Ultra Despair Girls didn't have the multitasking disabled function for its release in Japan - so it had to run well without it too.

I've been waiting for HD+Fury DLC to go on sale so I can unlock more stuff in 2048 :/
I got HD+Fury on another account :/

I gave up waiting for it to go on sale and just ended up using the 10% off code with it and some other things. I don't regret it at all.

some news about Axiom Verge PSVita port – http://www.axiomverge.com/blog/baby-alastair-paternity-leave-and-vita

In the absence of any updates to the contrary, many people have said that the Vita version is canned. Not true! Honestly, though, it's kinda hairy how it all unfolded - the original plan was that Mono would come out for Vita and I would just port over the same code I used for PS4, but I think something happened with Xamarin, and the Mono port never materialized (perhaps they wanted more money from Sony than the Vita games could reasonably return? I don't know the details, this is just a guess). But then a small miracle happened and the folks at Sickhead (who also develop Monogame) started developing a C# to C++ cross compiler, and Sony asked them to do the Vita ports for both AV and Towerfall.

The really great thing about a C#/C++ cross-compiler is it makes it possible to port XNA/FNA/Monogame stuff to all kinds of platforms without having to involve Xamarin in the picture. So when PS5 and XBox Two or whatever come out, I won't have to switch over to a whole other engine just to support them. And bypassing the virtual machine should also yield some performance benefits.

The downside is that this work is really, really hard. Originally they were thinking the tech would be ready in June, but it's obviously slipped. C# does a great job of shielding users from complex native underpinnings, and this is what Tom Spilman and folks need to replicate in full. From what I gather they have Towerfall running to some degree but AV is a more difficult beast in terms of things like executable size, memory usage, graphical complexity, etc. My personal prediction would be it'll be ready late this year, but it's hard to know for sure.

But it is coming.

They better be releasing Axiom Verge on Vita, because they sold the PS4 version on the promise of crossbuy which I then bought directly on release because of that.
Otherwise it's false advertising and that is a crime.

and the same with Bastion

  • Bastion for the PS4 and Vita will be available sometime in 2015. Stay tuned for more-specific details on pricing and availability.
  • Bastion for PS4 and Vita will support Cross Buy, so if you purchase either, you’ll be getting both those versions of the game. We’re looking into supporting Cross Save, where your saved data transfers seamlessly between devices.

edit: just found this

edit2: hmm – http://blitworks.com/unsharper/
Probably that means more indie games for Vita ;)
