I am surprised with 2.6m gamepass users. I though xbox live gold would have more users, and gamepass would have like 1m.

Guess most UK users prefer gamepass, or they don't like subscription service at all, as ps+ was 3.2m.

PC users can also buy gamepass so maybe they are included.

The numbers doesnt make sense for gamepass and gold , i thought PS Plus subscription numbers were almost doubled compared to gamepass o. O

4.1m subscribers of Xbox Gamepass or Live Gold is impressive. If we knew the amount of Xbones and Series X/S in the wild we'd know how impressive the attachment rate is.

Actually shocked at how low the Nintendo numbers are considering the number of Switches and the low cost of subscription.

It's pretty surprising to me too, but this is from Ofcom so it's as accurate as we'll ever get outside of Sony/MS providing the stats direct.

3.2 to 4.1 million subs is definitely a much larger gap than anyone would have guessed.

Ampere Games – Consumer, Q4 2021, gamers aged 13-64, UK
How accurate are they?
PlayStation Plus was the most popular paid-for gaming subscription in the UK with 3.2 million
subscribers at the end of 2021, followed by Xbox Game Pass (all versions) (2.6 million), Xbox Live
Gold (1.5 million) and Nintendo Switch Online (1.49 million).
How did they get these numbers?

Do they just do surveys and guess?

xbox is confusing. theres just gamepass, gamepass ultimate and xbox live on its own. how are they counting it all up?
Xbox live gold. Normal gamepass + normal Xbox live gold. Gamepass ultimate, but no Xbox live gold count.

It's like the new Ps+. Ps+ essential, and ps+ extra, deluxe.

It's mostly guess for these type of analysis, or educated research.

Xbox is still tight lips about their numbers.

So any data with Xbox, is just an educated guess, as there isn't enough info.

As Gen.Grievous Gen.Grievous said, PC users is helping gamepass. So the numbers would be higher for gamepass.

If we go by the xbox live gold numbers, gamepass xbox would be smaller.

This deflates it, so the numbers are bullshit. Disappointing. I'd rather real tangible figures to look at.

That would depend on MS giving a f*ck about us normal consumers.

Since they stopped reporting their numbers, this type of stuff was our only source for their numbers.

So where's PSNow number?

Fake stats.

These are not numbers disclosed by Playstation or XBOX. They're provided by Ampere which is the VG charts of video game research.

They're about as trustworthy as exit polls at an election.
So... very trustworthy?

Anyway, I'm not surprised by Xbox success. Nintendo numbers surprised me a bit, their online service is kinda shit, their numbers are better than I expected. Then again I'm subscribed to it...

You can't add them though. Most XBLG users would have upgraded to GP. This datapoint needs explicit confirmation whether or not these numbers are exclusive or inclusive.

Not every xbox live gold users.

As of now, there are like 18m-20m xbox users, using gamepass, while the rest is on pc.
Even with those numbers, half of those don't use gamepass ultimate, due to xcloud being only 10m userbase.

Around 30m are still on xbox live gold (since xbox online games before the f2p change needed the service to work).

If those users are jumping to gamepass, then gamepass number would have to increase as xbox live gold users gets smaller. It has to follow the cause and effect rules.

Yes, that's why I said "most"

I don't think these numbers are correct:
  • 30 million XBLG users would have pushed the subscription ratio well above PS+ subscription ratio. Doesn't look believable.
  • xCloud 10m userbase isn't mutually exclusive to GPU.
  • Also, 10m xCloud users is just cumulative figures for whoever tried it once. This data refers to MAU. Cannot be compared.

Xbox is almost an online console, while PS isn't. So tons of xbox users would have xbox live gold compared to ps+ relative to the console ratio.
30m is estimated guess. Plus

gamepass also increased relative to the new users who joined xbox this gen. So for every xseries that is has been sold so far, has some gamepass numbers attached to, due to the heavy advertisement.

xCloud 10m userbase isn't mutually exclusive to GPU.
Xcloud is only available for ultimate users. And so far only 10m users used the service.

Also, 10m xCloud users is just cumulative figures for whoever tried it once. This data refers to MAU. Cannot be compared.
Correct. All you need to do is launch an xcloud game once to be counted.

As for MAU would have been helpful if we had the numbers.

So far, we only have these snips to make an estimate guess numbers.

With numbers like this it makes all the sense that Sony is merging the failed PS Now brand into PS+
They should have done this long time ago.
Instead of making different service, bundle the 2 together, and let people pick what tier they want.

This way, you get more exposure, and more users.

Gamepass numbers are big, because of the gamepass ultimate.

that doesn't seem like a lot... isn't the UK meant to be a big market for Sony? lmfao :messenger_tears_of_joy:

what if it was the other way around?

would be taken as pure fact no doubt. some people just don't like to see xbox doing well.

It isn't about xbox. MS doesn't share data like Xbox live gold, or gamepass breakdown. And because of that, the data isn't perfect, due to these key points.

In order for a data to have a factual point, it needs hard numbers, which can be used as back ups.

What the hell are you talking about. "XBox doing well?"

The numbers used to make the article are fake. As in made up estimations. Any debate founded by farcical info is a farce. But you're concerned about which platform looks best based on fake info? Truth be told, that's kinda sad.

The numbers aren't fake. They're real.

I'm sorry, you can't call anything you don't like as fake lol.

Ampere numbers are routinely used by places like GI.Biz, whose reporting is taken as gospel on this forum.

The first half of the EG article is Ofcom surveys, the second half is there they're quoting the Ampere research numbers, which is where the PS+ and GP stats come from.

They're as real as NPD's reporting.
