PlayStation Plus Thread: Plus What? PLUS EVERYTHING!

Edit: I just realized that a lot of people probably already know all that information and maybe I shouldn't have made such a big post. @_@
I didn't. I'm actually thinking of grabbing a 1TB drive as well. So for the game I already have installed, if I want them on an external drive do I have to redownload + reinstall or can I move the game itself?

I didn't know either. I'll probably delete a lot of demos and installs before doing the transfer and then redownload them at a later time. I might just settle for a 640GB drive instead of 1TB.

Can someone tell me how that auto-update thing works? Like when it turns the PS3 on at a specific time to update games?

Does it just update any games I have played or my most recently played ones or what?

Oh thanks. Will definitely be using it then, seemed kind of pointless of using it if it was going to download updates for games I don't have or play anymore.

You'll need an external HDD (formatted to FAT32) to back it up to. I had almost 300GB on my old 320GB drive. Took about 6-7 hours for the backup and 15-16 hours for the restore on the new HDD.

Still worth it though. I had to reinstall my themes afterward, though, it corrupted them for some reason. Everything else was fine.

I really hate the game update system on psn. Sleeping dogs is a 7 something gb download, then, to update the game I have to download mother 2 gb:s... With psn being slow as hell that means I won't play the damn game today:(

It only took a couple of minutes to download that patch for me.

I wish I could change up some setting for that as well. I upgraded my hard drive and want to have everything up to date so I'd love if the system just downloaded everything all the time.

I think it updates the last 10 games you played.

When I was doing my mass patching session, I think it actually downloads three patches from the last ten games. Certainly I needed to go back to shutdown several times when I was attempting to automate the patching - without starting any other games in the meantime - and it never seemed to patch more than three each time.

I did that last year. I almost think a bigger HD is mandatory if you have PS+ - certainly if you originally bought a sub-100GB model.

Next job: Download all the patches!

Oh man, the patches. These are annoying only when a friend comes over and wants to try a game that I have never turned on or didn't turn on in a long time. Otherwise, I will wait until I actually want to play the games. D:

You have to go to System Settings and then go to the Backup Utility. You don't just move the game itself.

As GreatMightySymp said above, you will need a FAT32 external hard drive to do a backup. Expect a lengthy time if it is above 150GB. I thought it was worth it though because it kept everything in tact. Games, their data, themes, my settings, etc. If you want to shorten the time, delete what you don't want before the backup process.

Also, you will probably run into the PS3 asking for the latest update's files. Put them on a USB drive (or an external hard drive) beforehand. Make a folder called PS3 then another folder inside it UPDATE and then just connect it through USB when the PS3 asks for the update.

Redownloading and reinstalling stuff is an option as well. Just depends on how much data you have, how long you want to wait, etc.

Guessing he got the info from the blogcast.

Will get Critter Crunch. Somehow missed it when it was free. Doesn't look great to me, but some people rave about it, so I hope I eat my crowords.

I... I guess I'll download Closure, as I see the appeal of the gameplay. There has never been a game so aesthetically displeasing to me though...

It seems SCEA is releasing their "big" retail games in the middle of the month now, which is a mistake. I'm guessing they're doing it to try and make themselves seem better compared to Europe, a comparison they can't possibly win early in the month with the way they announce things.

Always do this, delete the game data of any game with a big install, demos and games you don't play anymore, delete those too and really anything you can get again. Not only will it save you time backing up and restoring but it can help prevent other issues, I think certain games had a habit of messing up when backed up and so prevented the restore afterwards properly.

I have Closure on Steam and forgot about it until just now. Never played it, either.

So...yep, another week of PS+ with nothing for me. Here's hoping for a Pinball Arcade sale, at the very least.

So speaking of PS+ is there any way to buy a game you got for free on plus?

I was going to get war of lions for PSP but it won't let me because I redeemed it through plus and now I'm gonna lose it next month when my plus expires.

Nope, you can't purchase free games you got with Plus while you have an active sub. You have to wait till your sub expires : /

I don't know if it's a glitch; when accessing the AU store from a Vita, 3 months of Plus is $13.45

There isn't some sort of Vita only plus that I don't know about, is there?

Bought Closure day 1. Really enjoyed it despite the genre being a dime-a-dozen these days.

Disappointed that it's replacing a full priced game, though. And it's time to replace LBP2, inFamous 2, and All 4 One already...

I hope this really is not the update. I guess another month were I am paying for cloud storage. It is almost like they are trying to get people to drop the service with these horrible updates.

Pretend they're saving up the monthly budget for something nice to announce at the Playstation Meeting.

Those 3 are gonna stick around for another ~4 months or so. We'll probably get replacements announced during E3.

Closure is fantastic if you enjoy these kind of games, don't hate on it. Deserves more attention but I think a lot of the people interested in it got it via the last Humble Bundle.

How is the library for Plus titles on the Vita? Can I play PSone classics I get on PS3?
Here's the current North America IGC:

You've missed out on Tales from Space: MBA, Jet Set Radio, Chronovolt, and FF Tactics (PSP). Wipeout, Gravity Rush, and Uncharted will probably stick around for a while since they're using those games to promote PS+ in retail bundles.

As for classics, you can play them if your account got them when they were handing them out. They seem to have stop giving out classics and minis as a part of PS+ when they switched over to the IGC.

You're not missing anything if you missed Chronovolt.

edit: ack, I left the response idle for too long, beaten by orfax.

It's a 2-week sale on 3-month subscriptions.

On top of all that, I’m very pleased to announce that as of 6th February we will once again be bringing you a fantastic discount on the 90 day membership for PlayStation Plus. For two whole weeks you’ll be able to get over 30% off the regular price – that’s €9.99/£7.99, reduced from €14.99/£11.99. A bargain, no?

The US has NGS on + for Vita? God damn, that's a fine freebie.

Yeah I would like that game too. Heck I also would like to try Payday Heist. Can't see why US guys are complaining all the time. I don't want blockbuster games from plus because I already played them. I want to get games that I might not try out without plus. But hey that's just me.

North American PS+ has some really great games, but I don't think it has ever had anything as good or as recent as Sleeping Dogs.

I'm playing it right now and it's fantastic.

It really is fun but I already got the Plat so I don't care that NA+ didn't get it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Nah, there's currently a sale on 3 month subs in EU territories, which I'd imagine the AU store also falls into.
