So how does this auto-updating work? I powered on my PS3 yesterday and it told me it updated to 4.4.6 (or whatever) but it was all LIES. I tried using Netflix and it wanted to update so I went it and it was still on 4.4.5.

I kicked it off and it didn't have to download, but still really annoying it didn't automatically do it like it said it did.

Firmware updates are not automatic. Take a second to think about why. Especially with recent events regarding firmware. But obviously that's not the only reason.

I got a year of it. It was on sale for 39.99 at Bestbuy.com and got 20 bucks off in reward zone points.

I downloaded everything, even the Vita stuff in case I ever get one.

I'll tell you what though, it was a bleak reminder of how much game installs suck. The wait time to download wasn't bad enough, you also have this on top

I'm greatly looking forward to that non sense being gone for PS4.

It can auto-install for you if you let it go overnight and it does its "auto-connect". Everything downloaded is auto-installed. Sadly, not auto-updated until you boot it up the first time.

It auto-downloads firmware updates, you have still have to manually install it (so you can agree to the terms and stuff - it can't automatically do that for you).

Those have been released over the course of a year. Some stay a full year while most go after a month of being on the store.

The games are constantly rotating. Unless you signed up at the very beginning and added games to your download list as they rotated in, you'll only have access to the current games on the service.

It's why the earlier you sign up for the service, the more games you'll get.

Games rotate once a month. You only get 12 games at any given time, but the ones that rotate, if you downloaded them before you can keep them on your account (as long as you are subscribed ofc)

Heh, long time PS+ member here. I have most of those 64 games on my hard drive and Vita right now thanks to the service. PS+ is the best deal I've had in gaming.

I just got Plus and was wondering if anyone knows why the auto-update keeps downloading crap I don't want (music unlimited) and stuff for games I don't own (400mb item for dark souls) how do I stop it from doing this stuff besides just turning off that checkbox? I would like to get updates for only the stuff I have/own.

I turned auto update off because it was downloading more useless stuff than things I'd actually use. Nice feature, but until I can set it to act on a per game basis I doubt I'll use it again (bandwidth caps suck!)

Not sure there is much you can do to differentiate what you want other than by checking those boxes. Here's an official help link, but it's not much help haha http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/autodownload.html

If I were you I'd just uncheck "Download recommended games and video." The other stuff (patches, system software, and trophy updates) shouldn't be a bother.

Go to "System Settings" then click on the Auto Update option at the very top. Select it again, select the time you want your PS3 to auto update, then a check list will pop up. Unselect the option that says "Download recommended games and videos."

I have everything else selected except for that option and it syncs my trophies, downloads patches, etc. Never had any videos or additions that weren't related to a game I own.

Thanks guys, yea I kinda figured the only way is to just uncheck it. That sucks here's hoping PS4 fixes by letting us choose in detail what we want it to download or update.

So $49.99 - $10.00 (Promotion) - $35 Reward Zone funny money = 1 year PS+ for $5

I could get another card but promo doesn't let me double dip so that's why I only got 1

If you queue up a bunch of stuff to download and turn your PS3 off, will that stuff get auto-downloaded during the PSN+ patch/update window?

Basically, I have a new PS3 slim (so incredibly small, so incredibly light, wow) and I've got a queue of Uncharted 3 and a bunch of games I had on my old PS3 phat in queue for download - will this all come down overnight? Or are the downloads during that period restricted purely to patches and "recommended" games and videos?

PS: A fresh install of GT5 takes for-fucking-ever. 23 separate updates + an hour long install to HDD. That's a lot of sandwiches.

Yes. Patches and stuff all get added to the normal download queue. So if there is stuff already on there, whatever is at the top of the list (such as UC3) gets downloaded first.

They will download overnight. And auto-install. And additionally patches for your most recent 10 games. And firmware.

But remember the PS3 is only on for a set amount of time, so if you have more queued that the time it's on, some will get downloaded the next night.

You will need to install the free to play uncharted 3 multiplayer stuff as well in order to get it to appear in your games list. Not sure if you've done that or not, but that could be why you didn't see it.

That's a pretty damn strange requirement. Weird. Now that I think it, I do remember seeing that stuff in my store account info, but I didn't manually start their downloads. Will definitely check on that when I get home.

I honestly just don't see why Sony would continue to make it this great for PS4. Previously, you didn't need Plus, so you had to provide major incentives for people to buy it. Now, simply being able to play online has become the incentive. They don't need major additives to get people to buy it anymore.
