PlayStation Plus Thread: Plus What? PLUS EVERYTHING!

I honestly don't think it matters what the game is at this point, it's what the game represents. Everything is going to be compared on a game to game basis to what EU is getting. Payday, much like KoF or Blitz are fun games that would work well in tandem with other bigger games, but when people are waiting every Monday to see if this is the week we get a Resident Evil or Red Dead level game it's always going to lead to disappointment.

Blitz, King of Fighters XIII, Payday. That's possibly the worst monthly line-up yet. At least we know November will be better with Vita support added.

King of Fighters is great. Blitz is meh, though I guess it'd be fun with friends...or something...and Payday is pretty meh too, though don't let kassatsu ever catch you saying that. :lol

I never tried Payday: The Heist, but one of my friends liked it.

Some of those sale prices are really good. I might have to jump on a couple of those.

The heist is infinitely more interesting of a free game than some 6-12 month old retail game I already would have rented if I had even the slightest interest in it.

Put it this way I will download and play at least some of heist, but not even going to bother downloading infamous 2/kof 13.

The idea of putting multiplayer focused games on Plus (especially "expensive for Digital Download" ones) is a great idea to me.

Not to mention it brings players into the game, which is what multiplayer thrives on. Nice to give people who already payed for an enjoy it, some fresh blood.

I think it's a good way to draw future deals to the service. If I were a publisher, I'd think of Plus as a good way to inject life into my older titles, and maybe even to premiere big multiplayer games (like Awesomenauts did), in order to give them an instant playerbase.

I'm quite happy they pick "unusual" games. It's a great service to grow one's gaming collection, and I don't think it has to be comparable to EU's stuff in order to be "good". I'm happy US doesn't have so many multiplat, "big name" games that everyone probably has played already...

1 game a week like this, possibly 52 free games every year, plus bonus stuff that pops up like Starhawk SP Campaign... how can anyone complain, when all it takes is a $50 a year subscription?

Different people value different things? I get the money = high number of games argument, but all it takes is to look at the EU PSN+ offerings to get some envy building and wonder why, when tastes really aren't all that divergent across the pond, why SCEA picks what they do.

The first time I had plus I only had interest in ONE game over 13 months that was free on the service.

If pay day is the only game for me on this 12 month card I will certainly feel screwed/pissed again.

The biggest issue is that another region gets vastly better benefits on a consistent basis.

That's fine and all, but it's pretty silly how much complaining goes on. Even if "free games" was all the service offered, you're talking about 1 of 50 dollars. Since it does offer deep discount sales, premieres of titles, betas, freebie themes and stuff, "valuing different things" shouldn't mean you feel gyped, if a few games you wouldn't usually play are selected as freebies.

And, is it so hard to believe that a European arm of a company might have different goals or allowanced than the US branches, too?

And as far as jealousy... eh, half the stuff I've seen of the European offerins lately, have been things I've seen on clearances at stores all around, on good sales, or are big enough to find some easy second-hand copies for cheap.

The first time I had plus I only had interest in ONE game over 13 months that was free on the service.

Yeah, but you seem to be a pretty hard to satisfy person in ways, anyway :)

Looking over the list people have displayed in these kinda threads, I don't know if I see the "Vastly" better side, maybe slightly better by a few titles, but that's about it.

If Sony EU puts a "Once $60" retail title on sale , that I could probably find for 10 / 15 dollars used / on clearance at a store, VS the US putting a sale on a 10/15 dollar digital title, that's more unlikely to ever see a sale, and has no alternative method to obtain, I'm actually happier with the digital product.

---

Anywho, not trying to insult anyones taste or anything, just trying to put some perspective on the situations. I haven't HAD PS+ long, but I kept up with the offers anyway, and have been pretty impressed with the number of freebie digital Day 1s, the quality of the games chosen, and the variety on offer.

Was very glad to see it wasn't "All Shooters" "All Artsy PSN experiences" or "All big named games everyone has anyway"... a solid mix of genres, popularity levels, variety, and gameplay.

Monster World IV for a buck? Fuck yes.

Yeah, and all that new blood really refreshes the accessibility of the game, too. MP games tend to just become impenetrable to newer players after so long, it's the same people hitting the same points, all knowing where to camp and what weapons are the cheesiest... It's great to have a huge influx of people who are experimenting and learning together, to basically get their chance to 'feel out' the game like the original players could when they first started, instead of just running smack into this high-learning-curve wall of demoralizing experts.

Maybe the next game will be a driving game so that they can hit every single genre I could care less about this month... sports games, fighting games, FPS games, and multiplayer only games.

I still think Plus is awesome and I know it's a gamble of not knowing what we're gonna get next, but sometimes it just feels like they're trolling (especially when I really wanted RE5).

-nod- Yup, definitely. Just works out so well for everyone who gives the games a chance.

I like MWIV enough to almost consider buying it here, too; alreay have on 360 collection, but what a great game...

The truth is that Morgan probably has no idea what will be the next PS+ free game and was trying to cover Sony's ass if RE5 isn't free. He later said it was just a mockup when someone pointed out the $ sign.

but that wouldn't be the truth! =) i have plenty of an idea of what's coming for Plus; enough to know that RE5 isn't coming anytime soon, nor is it currently slated for any particular timeframe. but sometimes crazy contracts and agreements get put together at the last minute, and all of a sudden bam! so it can move fairly fast. but again, there's nothing on the roadmap for it.

that said, i'm confirming that the image shown on the new ps store blog post was not indicative of anything planned regarding RE.

Did you check out the sale thread?

Lots of people asking for SIREN sale. Something to work on, maybe? :)

So we get dead space 2 for 10 bucks while EU gets it free... seems fair.
Glad I got it free from origin and in did not have to pay for that sub lol.

It's fair (and actually evens out) when Europe pays $10 extra for a sub to Plus. Actually, if NA released ALL the free games that EU got for $10 each I would get them. NA would not only get extra money/funding for future Plus endeavors but they would give the customers a choice in what they want to purchase for discounted prices so not only they would get money to improve the service for us going into the future they would also lessen the complaints of "I didn't want this game this month" as they are giving you a pretty broad choice in the matter.

*flame suit on*

At this point you've gotten way more for that $10 extra. Also that means nothing, EU always pays more for most things then the US.

My guess: PS+ in the US is ran by out-of-touch middle managers, while Europe is ran by people who know what PS3 owners actually want.

Ohh, ok. Thought there was some legal reason or something. Like, why cant US just mimic EU?

Just give us the same games that they are getting. Why are both so different?

Part of PS+ is getting publisher's leftovers. It's possible that Europe is getting the shooters Americans crave simply because those games aren't as valued there. I think it'd be clearer if the U.S. got a bunch of racing and soccer games in exchange...

Not happy about my ps+ account right now. it was so good right after e3, but now there is nothing coming out for my wife and i.. Hopefully it improves soon, or i may not renew come April

... on the other hand, my above post still doesn't explain the U.S.'s complete lack of day of release PSN games, which is usually my favorite type of free PS+ game.

They obviously have a different direction in what they type of games they add to PS+.
Having a high profile game like Red Dead Redemption on there looks good, of course, but I guess it's also a game that most people already own.
A good compromise should be games that scored high but sold average to poorly, I guess Deus Ex or Darksiders were good choices in that regard.

The US certainly has the upper edge when it comes to PSN games, even if there are (almost) no free day 1 games.

I own 6 of the above eu games, and im on the eu store so nothing too exciting yet wonder how many fellow uk peeps in same boat as me
Not complaining tho

PS All Stars demo is up for plus subscribers too, kinda hidden away. Check it out if curious, or if tentatively considering it.

So I just renewed plus but all my content says it's still expiring in 6 days. Is this reason to panic or will it eventually catch on? First time renewing.
