PlayStation Plus Thread: Plus What? PLUS EVERYTHING!

I think that happened before the new store. Just started up FFV after re-subbing and it worked fine I believe.

Well, I'm not going to sweat it, it was going to be awhile before it canceled anyway.

Just tried Spec Ops and The Walking Dead. Both seem great. I love Plus. It's probably the best deal going in this generation and opens me up to games I might have passed over as well.

no question. the gulf in value between the $50 per year I pay for ps+ and the $50 I used to pay for Xbl is pretty wide

Was Retro City Rampage free on Vita? I have the PS3 version in my list, but I remember trying to add the Vita version and getting an error.. it's in the "Expiring Soon" page but it has a discount for Plus members now

It's Crossbuy. If you have one version, you have the other.

Yes it was. If you "bought" the PS3 version you own the Vita version as well. Just try downloading it directly on the Vita.

Edit: the late.

it's one of those odd glitches on PSN

you have the Vita version you just have to get it from your download history

US PS+ subscribers must be pretty happy with the March update.

I think there is a delusion when people see the whole list of upcoming updates in the beginning of the month (as compare to seeing it trickle out every week).

Previously people may get excited with 1 nice update, and then had to sit for a month with nothing interesting and get disappointed every week.

Now, with the same quality of games, people will look at the long list of games and think 'wow there are some great games with my subscription!' even when they only see 1-2 out of 5 games they are actually interested in. They are not aware that Sony is spreading this list across the whole month, so you still get only 1-2 games you are interested in over a month period.

I played through the single player story mode tonight and enjoyed it. I'm not sure if that was in spite of or because of the boobs, but it was a decent little game. I had a good time.

The story makes no sense for me. I mean its all about x hating y and x is a friend of z and z hates y too but hates h more because h is a asshole. And h wants to be in DOA just cause.

Its a complete clusterfuck. The only Arc that was kinda interesting was the Mila one.

But overall you see all the stages, can play nearly all characters and you have lots of fun beating the shit out of people and doing the missions.

I don't buy that at all really. When we were getting weekly updates people would always say that's why we were complaining, but it's not really. The problem is that based on past experience we have/had no confidence that the rest of the updates would be any better.

This months update isn't really any different, a middling retail game, an indie puzzle platformer, and another underwhelming PSN game that nobody ever asked for.

It's always going to come down to opinion, but personally I've been a subscriber since May and I've only got a handful of games through plus that I've put any real time into, EU for the most part gets at least one game I've wanted to play every month. I'm one of those people that can't really afford to buy every game I want to play though, so there are tons of big games that I haven't played yet. I can see how someone that does buy all the big tent pole releases would have already played RDR or Sleeping Dogs, or Arkham City and would have the totally opposite feelings than I do.

Don't own a Vita yet but I'm getting one, I thought I missed this offer

Thanks :)

I want my Vita only discounts, but I have not been able to connect to the PS Store all week with my Vita. It's super inconsistent. Any tips for getting it to work?

Physical version of the saga? I didnt get a month code with my new copy?

GameStop USA has a deal going on atm (until 3/12/13 iirc) where you can get a NEW physical copy of Saga (including the month of PS+) for 20$+tax. Insane deal, I posted it up on several deal sites.

I did the "deal" but didnt get the month of plus. Is it on the receipt maybe?

It might heresey, but after putting three hours in Vanquish I'm just not feeling it. The scenery is really boring, the slow-mo strangely implemented, and I can't really figure out if I'm supposed to fight defensively or not. I die constantly. Looking for some tips:

Is there just a way to slow everything down without having to barrel roll into a horse-stance? It's almost impossible to use slow-mo from cover thanks to this.

Is there a way to turn off slow-mo when it automatically starts depleting? I'm not talking about when I'm near death- sometimes the game just wont stop being slow-mo and it causes me to overheat and lose my ability to sled around, thus getting me killed.

Did you get the last copy at your GameStop? Sometimes with the "gut" copies, codes will disappear. The 30-day trial should've been in the box. You should call your store and ask to speak to a manager. (S)He might be able to help.

Well, I didn't say it made sense. I said I had a good time with it. :P It really didn't make any sense.

Well Spec Ops is some generic, boring, repetitive shit.
Spec Ops is more of an artsy game that's saddled with typical UE3 third person shooter gameplay mechanics. Even 007 Blood Stone has better gameplay than Spec Ops, but the story is amazing. If it were made into an adventure game format like the Walking Dead, it'd win GOTY awards. If you don't enjoy the genre, I recommend setting the difficulty to easy and just blasting through to experience the story.

The loading is terrible for ME3, take the elevator in the Normandy, loading, travel to citadel, loading, dock at citadel, loading, "where would you like to go?" "hospital", loading, talk to ashley for 3 lines, take elevator, loading.

Why can't I change my crew's weapons at the normandy instead of the beginning of a mission?

The stores markup is there to annoy you isn't it.

"lol go through 5 loading screens if you want to save 10%".

I just saw this enemy floating in the air when he's jumping down the ledge and he couldn't land, I thought someone used biotic power on him! Man this game is rough.

Wonder if I could just disable the network thing, it takes a while to connect to EA's server, always have to go through the EA logos, loading the start up menu, connect to EA, then i can load the game (which is actually quick relatively), but so much fucking loading.

Here's hoping for a Bioshock sale on EU PSN at least this week, I wanna get Minerva's Den so I can have a reason to play 2 and get it off my PS3('s backlog).
Seriously I've got less than 60 GB on this thing now lol (I have a 500 GB HDD).

Started Mass Effect 3 thanks to the EU PS+ promo from a month ago.

Anyways it's a typical BioWare game. Nothing has changed since Kotor. I get deja vu running down some corridors doing the fetch quests Haha.

Played a few chapters of Spec Ops, there's some things about it I really like, like shooting glass and having a bunch of sand come down, but overall it really isn't doing much for me. Might give it another shot later though.

The game is such an satisfying adrenaline rush for me that i have a hard time seeing how anyone could find it boring. :)

Cover is there to give you some respite between recharging your slo-mo meter, don't play it as cover shooter, play offensively and be on the move, get some killing done while sliding around. Have a look at some videos on youtube, it's mindblowing how much faster you can beat stages and challenges when you stop playing it as a stop and pop shooter. Learn the vulnerabilities of the various enemies, even imposing foes can be dispatched fairly easily that way. One tip that you may already be aware of, during jetslide you can tightly steer with the right stick, that way you can literally run circles around enemies, whereas just moving the left stick will give you limited maneuverability. Also, you can cancel reloading animations by switching to other weapons. Cigarettes can be used to distract enemies.

From my memory, slo-mo gets triggered by holding L1 while:

- jetsliding
- doing an evasive roll
- vaulting over cover
- backflipping after a sliding melee attack or after hitting cover (stationary melee attacks change based on the equipped weapon - iirc with the shotgun you can do a backflip without hitting anything)
- when you're critically hit (this one is automaticly triggered)

Don't go for melee attacks unless it is to finish off a strong opponent or when you aren't under heavy fire. If you run out of slo-mo meter and you're out in the open, the evasive roll has some invincibility frames on it, so be sure to use it.

I suggest you keep going, there's a bit of a payoff in the later chapters and I'm about 3 chaps from the end where apparently my mind is supposed to be blown..or something. The game is good in short bursts, and short enough to chip away at over a week or two.

Hmm still haven't downloaded ME3 because i think i'm going to wait for another steam deal on it. HAve played ME1 and ME2 (both several times on insanity)
and don't think im going to like the controller controlls and the graphics. The demo on PS3 looked way worse than what ME2 looks like on my mid-range laptop (i5, 8 GB Ram, HD 5650, 2GB)

I'm really enjoying my second playthrough of Spec Ops on hard and getting trophies this time. It's hard adjusting to the somewhat poor framerate and screen tearing though (played on PC on max settings my 1st time).

This story is just too good for a shooter.

I'm trying to download DoA5 but it keeps freezing then saying "servers have timed out". What the hell? It stopped at 61% then 22% the second time.

Very good post. I don't have much to add. KaiBalboa - you're not supposed to play defensively but rather offensively, which is what makes that game so special. So yeah, what this guy says - cover is just there to hide before you go back out and play.

Anyway, this excellent post made me think that someone (not me!) should make a comparison "map" of Vanquish compared to other shooters, much like how there is one mocking newer FPSes compared to old ones.

Ah, found that thing;

fps-map-design.jpg

But with Vanquish, the "map" would be "how you play Vanquish" vs "how you play Not-Vanquish." The "Not-Vanquish" would involve two points of cover connected with a line, with the words "Shoot Shoot, Duck, Shoot, Duck, Move to Next Cover."

The "Vanquish" map would involve a ton of circles and squigglies all over the damn battlefield with words like "somersault," "backflip," "vault-slo-mo," and "rocket-slide." :P

I wish I had some computer skillz...

So I just decided to pick this up also for the deal, new copy I opened in the store, so the voucher code for the 2 free Origins Collection games didn't work when I got home also no Plus voucher, so I had to call CS send photos of the recept/voucher code/game to them, they said it would be resolved in a few days, kind of a pain just a heads up you might get lucky with everything I wasn't, but as long as they resovle it.

Was the new copy you got gutted for display or sealed new?

Sealed brand new copy

Edit: decided to give it a shot and go back to GameStop get another new copy instead of waiting like 4 days for Sony to resovle it, so this one also sealed new copy the voucher of the GOW Origins Collection worked, but no one month Plus voucher. At least I got all 5 games now for pretty cheap. Gamestop guys were pretty cool didn't give me a problem.

I need a video link of how to play vanquish then, I get out of cover I die, I melee anyone then I'm overheated then they hit me back and I'm in death-slowmo. Grenades other then EMP are useless because of how you throw them, etc.

The game is fun but it's not DMC, you still need cover and slow mo or else it's death.

Yeah, you need cover, but you use it in a different way to most TPSs. What I think Duffyside was getting at is that in most cover based shooters, you're just sitting behind a wall, waiting for an enemy to appear, and then you pop out, shoot, and go back into cover. And it's not very dynamic, since most enemies can be killed with minimum fuss, and often you can just end up being behind one piece of cover for the duration of a certain room or environment.

In Vanquish, sliding around lets you be more confrontational and aggressive. You'll start off in one location, and then you'll realise there's another piece of cover on the other side of the room, so you slide your way to it. And then you go between the legs of a giant robot. So that when you've got to the other side, the battlefield in front of you looks quite different. Enemies are scattered and at your disposal. Coupled with the slow motion mechanic, you can get pretty stylish, and effective, too. Watching videos of really good players isn't a bad idea for ways you can get more creative with it.

Oh, and never use melee outside of special circumstances. A melee attack completely overheats you no matter what. It's generally a really bad idea in the midst of a gunfight.

Don't see a point in having the melee button out all, we can't do that cool shit in the QTE's anyway.

Only time when I slide around is when I move between cover, but I usually stay a million miles away from the enemies and just play the game like a standard TPS, peaking around corners and stuff, really wish you could switch shoulders.

My main gripe with the game is the upgrade system, I find myself looking around like a rat after a fight for a weapon I have on hand so I can make it better, but it has to be full ammo. I then switch out whatever weapon I wanna upgrade, go pick up the fresh weapon and then pick up the older weapon and it'll upgrade, then I die next fight....

Thanks for the Vanquish tips. Like some others are saying here, I haven't found the rhythm yet. I feel like I don't have enough control of slow-motion to make good use of it and I die so often in each area that I never really feel like I'm figuring it out as much as I'm just lucking out.

I'm going to keep giving it a try, though. I was married to Max Payne 3 for a few months so maybe I just need to shake that style of bullet time and physics-based dodging. I know some folks couldn't get into MP3's groove but I found it to be sublime, so maybe I just need to keep trying with Vanquish. I hope I get over that hill, but after replaying that train level 6 or 7 times...
