Playstation portal stutter gone

After downloading the latest patch i noticed the micro stutter is gone. I can finally play GT7 now on the device. Anyone else noticed this? It is certainly no placebo effect on my side.

Can't wait to try it out.

Blops 6 120hz without stutter for smooth gameplay on Portal is all I want.
(Yeah, Portal itself is 60hz).

So glad i never noticed the stutter.
I wonder if it now officially supports the ps5 pro.

Also in other news Gran turismo 7 just had an update

That would be freaking great news. Can't test this myself as I sold my portal (30th anniversary edition coming tomorrow). Eager to try it out.

Nice one I'll try this later. I had this constantly before and was gaslighted by people on here into thinking it was my fault because of my router lol.

For those who are interested, it seems that Remote Play app stutters are gone too and I have a shit network. I tried it and did not notice any lag or stutters. Now I'm seriously considering getting the Portal.

I just returned mine yesterday after trying one for the weekend. It worked okay but streaming isn't up to my standards. Playing PGA tour you would have to time button presses way a head of time and that was silly.

I had SERIOUS doubts about the product as a whole. Didn't make sense, a Backbone is 1/3 the price, plus plays games that are locally on your phone, or just use Steam Deck.

I picked one up on a whim, using my trade credit from my OG PS5. Safe to say I was sorely mistaken - it's a way better experience than using your phone or Deck ergonomically. It's much lighter than the deck, screen much bigger than your phone and the controller is vastly more comfortable than either.

Yes, I can confirm it has finally been fixed after quite a bit of testing. Over the past few months, I came across many posts about how dancing naked on a full moon while smeared with virgin blood magically fixes the problem, but naturally it was all bollocks. I can finally use the portal for more than turned based stuff or visual novels where the stuttering didn't affect the experience much.

I'm glad it's fixed but I have not had anything like this happen. Sports games like kicking fgs in madden or stellar blade with the dodge window having to be timed or even the chests mini games. No different than using a dualsense and playing from PS5. There's no way I would continue using it.

I don't know what to tell you, some people claimed not to notice it while for others it was obvious as day. It was stuttering on a timer. You'd get 10-15 seconds of fluid 60fps followed by 5 seconds of stuttering/dropped frames and the cycle would continue. Maybe there were two different types of panels and it would only affect one of them so only half the userbase would experience the issue. I really don't know, just happy it was fixed after over a year of people complaining.

Checked out Blops6, HFW, Throne and Liberty and Demon's Souls real quick. Stutter is (close to) completely gone as far as I can tell.

In hindsight I think the stutter was way more noticeable than I realized.
Games feel really smooth now.

Even more reason for Sony to release a Portal Pro version with OLED.

I think once they have a feature complete cloud streaming solution, that will be the next step. I'd expect the OLED Portal to launch by next holiday season giving Sony engineers almost a full year to deliver on this. Being able to play your digital library will be a big feature once enabled.

The next step is ensuring that cloud streaming works on Android and iOS to include Android TV, which Sony uses. Since the Portal uses Android, it seems that will be a done deal.

The step after that is to have cloud working on MacOS.

The step after that is to have it running on PlayStation offline handheld that they're working on.

But major breakthrough for Sony and we're going to see if MAUs now outpace hardware.

Let me add, that it would be great if they dropped the price of the Portal to 150 and launched the Portal OLED for 200, rather than the Portal OLED costing 250.

Add me to the list of having never noticed it, and I tend to be bugged by these types of things. At any rate, glad it's fixed up for you all, I continue to love my Portal!

This update has definitely improved performance for me. After the last PS5 firmware update I was getting periods of severe lag, image breakup and disconnects at random times even though my Wi-Fi network was fine. After updating the portal the image is cleaner and I played for two hours this morning without a hitch. Somehow it just feels better.

I'm willing to pay €350 for an OLED 120hz Portal.

Would make it a perfect RP-device, imo.

I think that's a bridge too far for a machine that requires online connectivity and a really good online connection at that.

I think maybe you could get away with the existing machine for 250 OLED, but it should be 120hz with VRR, even at 250. Ideal would be that device at 200 and the current portal at 150.

I dunno, with cloud streaming, it can work without a PS5.
And the base model would be ~€200, so €350 doesn't seem unreasonable of it had an OLED screen with HDR at 120hz.

Cheaper would always be welcomed though and I don't know how much more expensive the difference in screens would be.
Would say they could make it 4K, but with such a small screen that would be pointless.

Edit:

Just imagine a 120hz Portal with no stutter.🤯

As someone who correctly called the price of the PS5 Pro at 700 USD and think it is a fair price, 350 euro would be wild for this.

OLED + 120HZ shouldn't be more than 50 dollars.

There is a ceiling on how much a cloud streaming device should cost at 250 is definitely at the upper end of that ceiling, if not surpassing it already.

I definitely think 150 LCD @ 60Hz and 200 OLED @ 120hz is the right move here.

Maybe, but don't forget that in EU PS5 Pro costs €799.
So maybe that's where we both already have a bit of disparity.

But like I said, maybe I'm overestimating the cost increase for a 120hz OLED screen.
Just saying €350 seems like the max I'd be willing to pay for a Portal "Pro".

I don't think you can jump from €210 to €350 and justify it with no offline play.

But with cloud-streaming, it can function as a stand-alone device. With proper marketing, Sony could push it a little.

Again though, I said I'm willing to pay €350.
Never said that's the price I would expect.

i be willing to pay 400 dollars for a ps5 portal pro that has an 4k screen HDR and 120fps refreshrate + VRR and ALLM

Never noticed the stutter. my biggest problem is that if you have hdr enabled, the games looked too bright and you literally cant see the sky.

VRR was what was causing the laggy feeling for me so i just turned that off last year since so few games need it on the ps5 anyway.

I think cost isn't the biggest factor here rather power draw and utility.

Bro come on this is Sony we're talking about

With Cloud streaming, selling more devices. and having more subscriptions is probably more profitable than selling fewer units at a higher margin.

Cloud on Portal is a complete game changer for the device if it leads to an increase in PS+ subscriptions at the premium tier.

For sure, I'm thinking about getting one now, I might still hold out in case they release an OLED version.

I didn't know there was an issue. I use mine all the time.

I think it's a guarantee that it comes out with OLED, but I doubt it would be 120hz.

They'll save that for another revision based on the PS6 controller or something.

And to think many were claiming it was a useless device almost nobody wanted, because "Steamdeck and smartphones".

Connection and clarity /performance of ps play, with an oled screen Is what the portal needs. The current screen smears way too much in motion as its clearly a cheap screen

I mean I personally don't see the value, but I also famously said that laptops would never be a thing because desktops were more advanced and cheaper.

I repeated the mistake with tablets.

Sony might be on to something with releasing a streaming only device if the backend tech is performative.
