PlayStation VR Thread 2: Reloaded

I already bought Infinite Minigolf due to sammyb being mildly positive about it before embargo lifting. Sadly, I'm in the midst of something work intensive and even when I'm done for the day I can't bring up the energy to play VR. Just a bit of Diablo suits my mood better atm.

I finished Theseus in less than 90 minutes, in one session. There's only one kind of enemy and it's linear and repetitive. There are pretty much no puzzles. You keep going forward and you eventually reach the end.

I gave it a 5.5.

I finally got around to getting a microphone stand and mounting the PS camera behind the tv overlooking the living room. I am 6’4” and this was the first time I was able to play Batman VR with the ability to fully stretch my arms out. This weekend I will test some sitting games and hopefully this camera setup will work for couch vr games as well.

Jeez, it seems like mic stands are really capturing the zeitgeist around here lately. You, me, and at least two other people in this thread seem to have gotten the idea to go with them lately.

I'm similarly impressed. Instantly 90% of my issues with Superhot were taken care of.

Great to read, I did this because I wanted the best Super Hot experience. The official thread seemed down on the game because it required really good standing tracking.

I've just ordered a 4Gamers camera TV clip, it was only £7.60 or so. I'll give that a try but if that doesn't work well then I might have to consider a mic stand.

So I think I'm getting nothing? Darn.

Smashbox 40 in Canada.. That's the only one I'd get. I'll wait for price drop and see if people still play it.

Smashbox is reviewed well, but the $30 is kind of a rip off.
Tiny Trax and Infinite Minigolf are safe buy, reviewed very well across the board and priced fairly.

Problem is Switch or PSVR.

Infinite Minigolf seems to have the most value and fun gameplay today for $15 it's the best thing to get. Next week is better though, we have Dino Frontier :)

Dino Frontier is pretty much a guaranteed great game. That was the only game that I pre-ordered with zero concern. I'm still sitting here deciding the Switch or PSVR version for golf, it's the toughest thing ever despite knowing PSVR version is cooler and better, but portability beats everything for a simple casual game like this.

I might be getting Tiny Trax too.

Was about to buy a charging station for the Move controllers, but wanted to ask in here to see if folks had some good recommendations on which to go with. Also potentially interested in one of those charging stations that also works to hold the PSVR and possibly charge the DS4 controllers as well.

Any word on restocks of the Farpoint bundle? Funny how Nintendo gets endless shit, yet these haven't been seen in 2 months.

I got this one and I LOVE it. It keeps everything super neat and compact and charges both moves and a DS4

I was able to place an order for one at AnT online, who had been selling them as a third party via Walmart.com about 10 days ago. Their customer service guy emailed me to let me know that they get them straight from the manufacturer and that usually once they put in an order it takes a week but now the manufacturer was telling them it would be four weeks. I elected to keep my order open and will hopefully get one.

Based on this info, maybe we can hope to see restocks in about three weeks? But who knows at this point. I read that Newegg (i think it was newegg) was allowing people to order them on backorder and wait as well, so maybe they got word of some untis coming in.

Watched everything. Infinite Minigolf VR camera seems cool, but it's a pick up and play type of game, still having a tough time on deciding. Just doesn't seem like a game that I will put on a headset for hours playing it.

I might get Tiny Trax just because Theseus turns out to be such a disappointment. And Tiny Trax has Platinum, that's one way to push me on playing it a lot.

Hey Sammy, I haven't really said much directly in the comments section, but I appreciate your coverage on PushSquare, especially the VR stuff. I've been a frequent visitor of your site for years and love the content.

Just watched a review of Theseus. They said it felt like a tech demo with a few neat ideas that weren't fully realised.

Shame. I might pick it up when it's heavily discounted.

My question regarding Arizona Sunshine is did they fix the control issues with the game with the any post-release patches?

Also, I have a PS4 Pro, does the game look significantly better on that?

Yes, I wouldn't call it a fix, it's more like a solution. The minor gun shaking is still kind of there to an extent, like Farpoint but they fixed it with a nice holographic sight, which turns the game into a whole new experience, a VERY great one too. The game feels like a sniping zombie game now, satisfying and fun.

And yes, this is the only game that has a HUGE gap between Pro and standard, I posted an image maybe 20 pages ago showing the differences, the game looks great on Pro and extremely foggy on standard.

Is it just me or is Tiny Trax hard as fuck? 0o Generally I love the idea, but it seems that you need to do everything perfectly to at least have a chance of winning 0o

The difficulty is really selling me on the game. Did you enjoy it a lot? How much time did you spent in the game already? Also thanks for the Theseus VR review.

Thanks again Sammy, doing Gods work with these reviews. Couldn't agree more with what you said about Tiny Trax, its extremely fun, well presented and a top tier PSVR game. Like you, I only wish there were more tracks (trax? hehe). Again, also like you I couldn't gold any of the cups on my first play through and I look forward to the challenge of going back and mastering these levels. There is some reply value and fairly challenging Platinum Trophy to go after here.

Haven't picked up Infinite Minigolf yet but I love Pinball FX2 so I know Zen Studios have a good handle on VR. To be honest I really hope Zen get the license to do a Blade Runner Pinball table, preferably a VR one but I'd take a regular one as well.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
In for Infinite Minigolf. Debating Tiny Trax, but if it is super difficult I'm not touching it.

darkinstinct

...lacks reading comprehension.
So is there 1st person Move minigolfing in the game or is it still controller only third person view? Because then I am out, I want to play the game like it has to be played.

Well, I played something like an hour. Got the game yesterday, but didn't have time to play.

I think the virtual reality aspect is great. The tracks have amazing design and the depth of field is astounding. It's a great showcase how to do a more "classic" gameplay in VR.

But the difficulty is currently quite frustrating for me. I'm not against difficult games, but the learning curve is basically absent. They throw you in a pit of sharks and hope you get used to it. And I loved playing games like Bloodborne or Driveclub. If you are fine with that, than it will be probably a great game for you.

But online seemed dead to me right now.

I am so pleased with my two most recent purchases, Superhot and Archangel.

Both are so immersive and fun and both make me feel like I am living an action film.

I strongly recommend both titles to everyone.

oh wow, for some reason i didn't think to play RE7 standing up.. good lord it's even more immersive and intense. i had a save right before a boss fight so i walked right into it (almost literally) and it was so crazy. it feels so much more natural.

i almost fell on my ass several times during that fight.. my legs kinda just didn't know what to do and it was awesome.

it was the
chainsaw fight against Jack
, anyone know how much more i have left? am i 1/3 through? 1/4?
Oh shit, I just beat the campaign twice(normal&madhouse) but forgot to try standing and now I must go back and do this!
The VR mode is intense as hell in some sections man, just god damn. I wanna estimate you're 1/4 through the game at least. Still got many great things ahead; enjoy this tense ride hahaha.
There was one moment in the game where I actually yelled in real life then was laughing for 2 minutes straight cause of that. Love what VR is able to bring to the table in terms of actual immersion.

I found your post on page 73....oh my God...what...how do you even review something that drastically different?

Reviews were knocking Arizona Sunshine for looking terrible on PS4, but it's so different on PS4 Pro, much closer to the PC version in fact, I wonder if it would have reviewed the two differently. I can totally see people dropping consideration when reading or watching a review of the PS4 version of the game.

Ok, after some more time I think I got it. I'm at least not chanceless now like at the beginning and it makes more fun :D But it could have a little bit more content :/

I feel like I couldn't handle RE7 in VR. I am sure I would scream and yell too, lol. I'm not afraid to admit I do jump-scare easily. Shit, I got tense going down into the basement cellar in Tomb Raider Blood Ties VR. I am sure I would get super nervous in RE7.

Almost bought it today since it is on sale digitally, but just can't bring myself to do it. :/

Do it! Face your fears!

It's really intense, there are some serious jump scares but also sections that are just tense and creepy.

Mid-game (60ish% thru) spoiler:
the section in the locked-off area of the old house after the Marge boss fight.
After going through the door the torch flickers before leaving you in complete darkness. Then someone RIGHT NEXT TO YOU whispers in your ear.
I nearly noped out right then, but the next few rooms are so creepy, the atmosphere is awesome!

Here is my footage of Theseus. Shows a mix of exploration and combat: https://youtu.be/lnnViqUPQtg
What's your take on the game?

That other poster said they beat it in 90 minutes and it was pretty ho-hum all around; it felt like a tech demo. I watched about a minute of the footage someone posted yesterday and I'm not gonna lie, atmospherically, it looked like it's probably rad as fuck. But atmosphere isn't everything, it needs some meat on its gameplay bones too.

Speaking of which, I saw that the RE7 DLC is on sale through 8/1 for PS+ members. It's 30% off each of the "Banned Footage" add-ons ($6.99 and $10.49, respectively) and 20% off the season pass ($23.99).

It has two endings. To get the first ending and just make your way through the game will take around 90-120min. The fighting is pretty simple (you can die if you are awful). I don't regret spending my time with the game by any means. It's neither great nor terrible. You can't really get lost in the game nor will you ever get stuck. Searching for the dead bodies is the only real thing to do and I believe you need to find them all to get the second ending.

What's the price of the game?

Thanks for the impressions. I have no idea what the price is going to be, but I'm expecting it to be at least $19.99.
