PlayStation VR Thread 2: Reloaded

Having the same issue. If you put the PS4 into rest mode, then hold down the power button on the VR Headset, it will shut off and the light turns red. Only problem is now I need to have the headset plugged in and press the power button to wake my system up. Even if I don't want to play VR. Controller alone won't wake it up.
There's something very wrong with your PU, you might want to get in contact with Sony support or try out some troubleshooting steps.
I'm having the same problem as Birbo, it was fine (PS4 went to sleep, PU light turned red) before the last firmware update. I don't think it's an issue with our PUs.

Is your PU heating up while in white light? If it's not then I guess it's fine.
The last time it happened to me, my PU was heating up.

i noticed it had another Pro patch, it even says "massive" upgrade in the notes heh. i do think it looked a bit too low res when i first played it, i really gotta go back to it and see the improvements. great job by the devs putting more effort into it.

i'm not normally into resource gathering and survival stuff, but it's so different in vr, i loved just waving a torch around and lighting up cave walls heh. simple stuff but cool in vr. i got lost in the cave though and dropped into dark water :E a bit distressing to experience in vr. i just suddenly stepped off a ledge and fell into pitch black water, my torch or course went out and all i could see were bubbles going up. i actually started flailing my arms in panic lol.

Ha! That's the immersiveness of VR for you. It's probably not a game I would recommend on a flat screen, but VR adds SO much to the experience. It's perfect for exploration type games, and I like how it uses so much of what PSVR offers. And the controls become second nature after awhile.

I honestly don't know. Maybe it's just an odd coincidence where my PS4 had some downloads going in the background which I know make it turn on for whatever odd reason. Even if that's the case, that's a bug unto itself that Sony hasn't bothered to fix.

I finally got the Fishing Master download working, definitely going to be checking that out soon.

So, what should I get? I got a VR at launch, got quite a few of the first batch of games.

I've got statik, Psychonauts, I expect you to die and windlands on my cart. Want some recs on what else I should get.

- Is Crystal Rift, any good? What about Fated?
- Mortal Blitz, Dick Wilde, Sneaky Bears or something else?
- Is Sparc good?
- Any of those weird games like time machine, apollo 11
- Here they lie any good? I remember the demo giving me motion sickness. What about don't knock twice? Brookhaven?
- ffs how is gnog not on sale

IEYTD and Statik are perfect choices.
Dick Wilde is the best static wave shooter especially if you have Aim. Extremely smooth gameplay.
Mortal BLitz is short and sweet, bad sound design but VERY great graphics, pretty high replayability with different difficulties, I ended up spending quite a lot of time in it.
Sparc is very loved by the community but it's MP focused with little to zero SP, so be aware of that.
Apollo 11 is alright, short experience/documentary, nothing too excited/bad.
Brookhaven is one of those "generation 1" game, so probably skip it since you have much better option like Arizona Sunshine.

Out of the ones I have played, Mortal Blitz and Fated are both great but pretty short. Here they lie is okay. its more of a lovecraftian horror than traditionally scary. If Timemachine was free Id say dont bother because its not entertaining enough to justify the download.

Thanks PSVros, I've been out of the loop for a while, there's so much good content now!

I got statik, IEYTD, Mortal Blitz, Psychonauts, Windlands, Fated and Ancient Amuletor, Arizona Sunshine.

I just wonder if I should drop any of those and go for gnog, Super Hot or Invisble Hours

Absolutely forgot to mention, if you have a standard PS4, you probably should drop Arizona Sunshine. If you have Pro, then it's perfect.
Ancient Amulator is a pretty barebone game, Super Hot is a MUCH better option, among the best VR game but you need a huge set up space.

Is there anyway to replace the rubber nose pieces on the headset?

You can easily remove the entire rubber piece and probably find one online.

Super Hot is top tier. i recommend that above anything except re7

I have a Pro, I only lack the aim controller since I could never find a bundle. I don't have a LOT of space, maybe I'll drop ancient amuletor and wait for a Super Hot sale.

Anything hidden gems on the sale?

Then you should be good, you might need some time to get used to the smooth movement with PSMove in Arizona Sunshine but it works very well, make sure you enable the smooth movement and turning from the option.

Raw Data just released and it's really climbing up in my favorite list, it's currently 30% off for PS+ but the Pro patch is coming next week. Right now it has some minor rough edges which will hopefully get ironed out next week.
Tethered is pretty good and lengthy game, but a very stressful one too. They added PSMove support too. Price seems fair.
I heard a lot of great things about Windlands which has PSMove support, was interested but seeing Windlands 2 was announced (not yet for PSVR and it's currently timed exclusive for Rift I think), might as well wait for that.

And Dick Wilde might seem like a very basic game on the front end, it is one of the most challenging game I've played. Tracking is among the best with a whole lot of weapon variety that plays differently. The super challenging aspect is the most fun part.
Dick Wilde and Mortal Blitz are both very polished, but the sound design in Dick Wilde is so good I personally would recommend this over Mortal Blitz. Then again you won't go wrong for picking any of them.

Douchebag. Yes, me.

It has decent graphics, but I found the gameplay extremely dull. It's pretty much a badly designed on rails shooter.

Thanks, dropped MB in favor of DW, I think MB looks a bit dull tbh.

It is VERY short. Like 1 hour short.
There's only 2 or 3 enemy design and the environment are the same throughout the game. The only thing that's great about the game is how polished and sharp the graphic is, and it's a great experience. Overall a mindlessly fun decent game but again, you have much better option.
Dick Wilde on the other hand, despite for being a static shooter, you have 9 different environment, EXTREMELY challenging gameplay, great music and sound, and they've covered pretty much every weapon categories in game like burst rifle, pistol, shotgun and shield, bow. You have to move around A LOT to dodge stuff or just go for the shield to block incoming projectiles. Plus if you plan on getting Aim, you have an additional layer of different weapons designed for Aim.
As for set up, camera should be around head level pointing down, you will be ducking most of the time or strafing left and right. It's the most chaotic game on PSVR.

I liked it, really feels like piloting a Yager to an extent. Its a fun lightgun game. And its hard as hell. The new "Dark Souls of VR" after Battlezone :D

I'm pretty sure in an interview he said that Sony funded him and he hired a few people to help him out.

Yea, that was further in development. They are assisting on QA and other stuff. That's also why the timed exclusive VR for PSVR. Hopefully that really improves the quality. Everything just seem too promising.

Megaton Rainfall looks too good to be true. I would LOVE to be proven wrong on this.

The Invisible Hours is great. It's a play in VR. albeit one where you can stop and rewind at any time and walk through the entire set and explore multiple story threads that are happening simultaneously.

If there's a game that I would pray for not screwing up at release, it would be this. This game is way too ambitious for a one man team.

i'm fully prepared to play it for 10 minutes as it only has couple empty planets and randomly spawning generic enemies without further content :D already pre-ordered.

The later levels of Raw Data is REALLY good. It's like a different game from the beginning where you only run around in a room shooting enemies.
Minor spoiler for later levels.
Walking through the hallway holding a briefcase while slashing enemies is REALLY cool.

How good is the tracking in Raw Data? I've had nothing but awful experiences with PS Move in VR games. Aim controller was okay in Farpoint but certainly not as good as PCVR and it did have some issues.

Easily one of my favourite missions.
I loved the bit where you sit/kneel down and meditate too to advance the mission + the drug side effect was trippy :D

How are you finding the katana class now btw since you've fought against the
giant robots
. They were too spongey when I first came across them and still not sure what the best way to take them out is with the katana's (although i haven't retried with the skills and additions you unlock later).

I've been using that shadow blade skill for airborne enemy and explosive dudes. Two handed wielding single katana MGR Rising style that giant robot leg. As for those red slightly bigger robot, I just keep dying when I face them.

It's really good, may not be as good as something like Dick Wilde, but I have zero major issue. It's not as smooth as Dick Wilde for the movement of hands but Survios confirmed Pro patch is coming next week to optimize performance and stuff.
You need a huge space for swinging Katana though, around 5.5-6 feet away from camera, camera must be head height so that it can track when you are stretching your arm up for blocking projectiles and ducking lasers.

My setup meets all these requirements, but London Heist and especially LethalVR have never worked 100% perfect no matter what I do. I also have ocassional, random issues with drifting on Farpoint and wonky calibration when aiming upwards. Tbh the only mostly hassle free experiences I've had with psvr have been headset-only games like RIGS, Driveclub and Dirt Rally. So I'm kinda nervous about getting Raw Data even though it looks great.

Trying to play free movement on Raw Data but I'm so used to the Arizona Sunshine controls that I can't do it properly.

It takes some time. Use the head as main navigation pointer instead of controller. So it's easier to identify walking backward/strafing left and right.
My only minor gripe is that quick turn, you have to GENTLY tap it to get that 45 degree turn or else it will snap 90 degree.

Nice. Do you control the sword all the way through the slash or does it trigger sort of a pre-calculated straight slash (like, say, skyward sword)?

I hope I didn't misunderstood you, but do you mean something like swinging the controller randomly then it slashes with certain cool animation in game?
If so, no. Every VR game has one to one tracking, granted this is the first of its kind to have Sword combat on PSVR, you hold the Move controller literally like a sword, it tracks your arm extending out/reaching in or any movement.

If you mean something like sword touches any enemy is an instant kill, as in no force required - also no. It works surprisingly well, where you need to actually slash for the attack to register, I did a short random testing on the slash detection. If I'm just moving my sword around, the attack won't register. https://youtu.be/EV1_Gq5GnQ8?t=1m12s

My partner's daughter was introduced to VR for the first time two weekends ago. She experienced Invasion! and Allumette. She's 7 and is just not getting to experience console games, so the non-gameplay/interactive options seemed the best.

Are there any other games/apps like those two above that would be a lot of fun for a kid (and me, too!)?

Except not all the great games: Wayward, Dino Frontier, End Space, Theseus, Solus Project, Voltron, Gnog, Polybius and some more good and bad.

Most of them are very new. Surprised Wayward and Gnog didn't get a discount though.

Also you should probably forget about Theseus.

Try Danger Ball or the shark thing (select the mode without shark) from PSVR World.
Most of the free stuff are experiences that only requires headset tracking, Chainsmoker MV, Joshua Bell.
Eagle Flight is pretty good for cruising around but actual core gameplay is VERY challenging.
Definitely go through Playroom VR, it's free and it's fantastic family game.
If you have access to Japan/Asia PSN, the new Orchestra app is fantastic.

Or best of all, Kitchen demo. Doesn't require movement or control at all. Perfect.

I have very big drifting problems since the new update. :( Takes literally seconds after recentering to let the imagine drift to the right completely. Even calibrated new on a flat surface, repositioned camera etc

In VR or cinema? I've been seeing a lot of people from reddit saying the latest update fixes cinema drift dramatically.

Is movement in raw data similar to solus with moves or better? Keep in mind I dislike solus controls.

If you dislike Solus purely because of button as movement, you might not like this too. Since PSMove only has buttons.

If you dislike Solus for the control mapping, then there are chances that you will like this. I wasn't a fan of Solus control scheme too, I would consider Raw Data closer to Arizona Sunshine but better. And I love Arizona control.
It takes some time to get used to. For Solus, the button was a little too confusing with jumping and crouching in it plus I kept enlarging my PDA accidentally. Overall just a very confusing button layout.

Raw Data control
Right Move controller
- Move button = Select Power
- Square = Select Tower
- X = left camera turn
- O = right camera turn

Left Move controller
- Move button = Move forward
- Square = backward
- X = strafe left
- O = strafe right

read some megaton rainfall impressions. review keys are out: "Just played Megaton for about 45 minutes, here are my first thoughts (playing on OG ps4): First of all, this is a game that's made by one man for the most part so anyone expecting a full fledged, polished game will be disappointed. I turned of the blinders and other comfort settings, didn't make me motion sick at all and it's pretty cool when you have to chase a big alien ship for a while (note: pretty cool, not amazing). I only got 1 upgrade so far (charge shot) so I can't really comment on the gameplay yet, but so far it's both pretty simple (just aim and shoot at the weak points) and extremely hard (seems almost impossibile to kill all the aliens before they destroy the city at the point I'm at now). It's pretty fun to play so far, but one thing that really disappoints me is that there's no sense of depth at all (aside from a couple of effects) which makes the immense scale of this game feel not as impressive as it could have, graphics are also very blurry."

Greetings PSVRgaf, new VR user here. Bought the Core set for 199$ at EBGames (was 299 with 100 off with a coupon from Playstation) and the camera. I already had two move controllers from PS3 Sports Champions era and they still work well.

I played with the Playroom yesterday and also bought Arizona Sunshine and Raw Data. I've yet to play RD but had lots of fun in AS. It was one of my favorite games on PC when I tried VR for the 1st time and was happy to find a PS4 version.

I have some questions.

1- Is there any options to see what your play zone look like? I need to remove the helmet, move the camera and try manually. I'd like something where I can see my "virtual walls" and the borders of the camera's sight. I can "calibrate" my zone in Arizona Sunshine and check my virtual walls but I'd like an option from another app or the OS.

2- Should I hang the cables from the VR base to my headset on my ceiling? When I first tried VR, it was set up that way and you don't feel the weight of the cables and you can also turn around yourself without tripping.

3- Camera placement: on top or under the TV set?

4- Any other tips?

Thanks!

1- It will fully depend on the game, but most of the newer game has it, like Raw Data, Farpoint, they will show you the grid of playing field. But if you're talking about looking at yourself from the camera view to see your tracking area, you can hold down the PS button > Adjust PSVR > Confirm Position. This is EXTREMELY important and I use it ALL the time.

2- yes that works too if it's an option, but you can also get a belt or something and pin that dumb little tiny box to your waist while running the cable in between your legs, it works well for me.

3 and 4- I will send you a full guide on this, my personal guide of course, feel free to pm me for more question anytime anywhere.

If you have any problem, please PM me or just shoot out the question here, everybody will be glad to help.
