PlayStation VR Thread 2: Reloaded

1- It will fully depend on the game, but most of the newer game has it, like Raw Data, Farpoint, they will show you the grid of playing field. But if you're talking about looking at yourself from the camera view to see your tracking area, you can hold down the PS button > Adjust PSVR > Confirm Position. This is EXTREMELY important and I use it ALL the time.

2- yes that works too if it's an option, but you can also get a belt or something and pin that dumb little tiny box to your waist while running the cable in between your legs, it works well for me.

3 and 4- I will send you a full guide on this, my personal guide of course, feel free to pm me for more question anytime anywhere.

If you have any problem, please PM me or just shoot out the question here, everybody will be glad to help.

Wow, thanks for the quick answer and tips! I'll make sure to try these next time.

I keep trying to download it, but the website keeps giving me an error when I try to add it to my cart. I'll have to try it from my console.

Also, has anyone else noticed that since the last firmware update, the PSVR breakout box doesn't sleep when you put your PS4 into rest mode anymore? Kind of annoying.

I had that happen before.

You could try starting your PS4 in safe mode, restoring default settings and rebuilding your database...but that didn't work for me..neither did the next firmware update.

In the end I did a full factory reset and redownloaded everything. That worked.

The white PSVR light stays on in rest mode if you're downloading something on the PS4. I wasn't downloading anything....so my guess is that one piece of software, somewhere on the PS4, was constantly trying to connect online (I've no idea which)....which was then sending a false signal to the box that it was downloading.

Could have been a Trophy sync issue, could have just been a glitch in any one of dozens of games I downloaded...but a full factory reset was the only thing that fixed it for me.

This is like my favorite feature of the PU. White light goes to Red light = download complete.

Also, Uh oh, No Heroes Allowed VR dropping tomorrow in Asia...

I hope I didn't misunderstood you, but do you mean something like swinging the controller randomly then it slashes with certain cool animation in game?
If so, no. Every VR game has one to one tracking, granted this is the first of its kind to have Sword combat on PSVR, you hold the Move controller literally like a sword, it tracks your arm extending out/reaching in or any movement.

If you mean something like sword touches any enemy is an instant kill, as in no force required - also no. It works surprisingly well, where you need to actually slash for the attack to register, I did a short random testing on the slash detection. If I'm just moving my sword around, the attack won't register. https://youtu.be/EV1_Gq5GnQ8?t=1m12s
Yes to the first. Skyward sword had predetermined eight directional cuts.

Thanks for everything, really appreciate it. If you don't mind a last question... How does the tracking cope with very fast, violent movements? This is what kills Move and to a lesser extent Aim, a sudden shake destroys the calibration for a few moments.

Question for you all sorry if this has been answered before but this thread is BIG.

Any updates on if the breakout box works with HDMI switches and splitters now (need them for capture at 1080p with no lag)

Also i know it wont passthrough 4k full RGB but will it passthrough 1080P full RGB.

My setup atm PS4 Pro into - Kinivo 5 ports HDMI switch (1080p Powered switch) into - 2 way HDMI splitter (HDMI 1.3 Powered that strips HDCP also, think HDCP version 1.2) one end into Sony 1080p tv for lag free gaming - other end into HDMI capture device (Hauppauge hd pvr 2 gaming, turn on when need to capture otherwise leave off)

All of this is set to full RGB 1080p! Wondering 2 things, 1. will adding the psvr before the kinivo switcher break all of this? 2. can i still leave everything to Full RGB at 1080p?

Any help would be much appreciated, dont really want to add more splitters in the mix or disconnect stuff :( .....

Never really had that problem in any games actually, maybe I have a higher toleration but as you can see from some gameplay I've shared here, those are some pretty fast slashing. The only time where the PSMove will have some minor tracking problem is when the light overlaps each other, like when you are handling a bow, if your left Move light bulb is directly infront of the right Move light bulb while pulling a bow, it will have some malfunction which will immediately fix itself after a second.

^It wasn't a smart approach, should've utilized my ability, but it tracks very well when I'm slashing super fast.

I didn't realize the breakout box was supposed to turn off when you put the console in rest mode. It has always been on (white) for me for months.

I've been googling around a lot looking for a solution to the fact that my breakout box doesn't turn off (go red) when I put the console in rest mode. I know this is normal behavior if the console is downloading something, but I'm definitely not... and all applications are closed as well before I go into rest mode.

I've found a ton of people that have this problem, using both regular and pro PS4s (I have a Pro).

How many people here have their breakout box turn off when you put the console in rest mode?

I've read some interesting things... one guy claims that his breakout box would always turn off when resting the console, until he played Persona 5 (!?). Now it never turns off. I played Persona 5 before getting my PSVR... could that have done it?

Has anyone found a solution for this?

I learned I can hold down the power button on the PSVR headset cord for 3 seconds to turn off the breakout box. Unfortunately, this also cuts signal from my PS4 to my TV... so in order to use my PS4 again I need to turn on then turn off my PSVR headset.

Hi all, new guy here...

I got my PSVR a couple of months ago, and the boxes turned red and yellow as expected in rest mode. Then, one day, the PS4 went yellow in rest mode while the breakout stayed white. It was like this for a couple of days, finally I just unplugged everything... all connections to everything including the a/c power. I waited 5 minutes, then reconnected it all again as if for the first time, and the boxes have been red/yellow ever since.

Don't know if this is a fix, but it might help some of you.

If it doesn't heat up, just leave it there. For my case, it was heating up while it's on white light, therefore I was worried about it.

I THINK that was what I did previously. Never had that problem ever since then.

Greetings PSVRgaf, new VR user here. Bought the Core set for 199$ at EBGames (was 299 with 100 off with a coupon from Playstation) and the camera. I already had two move controllers from PS3 Sports Champions era and they still work well.

I played with the Playroom yesterday and also bought Arizona Sunshine and Raw Data. I've yet to play RD but had lots of fun in AS. It was one of my favorite games on PC when I tried VR for the 1st time and was happy to find a PS4 version.

I have some questions.

1- Is there any options to see what your play zone look like? I need to remove the helmet, move the camera and try manually. I'd like something where I can see my "virtual walls" and the borders of the camera's sight. I can "calibrate" my zone in Arizona Sunshine and check my virtual walls but I'd like an option from another app or the OS.

2- Should I hang the cables from the VR base to my headset on my ceiling? When I first tried VR, it was set up that way and you don't feel the weight of the cables and you can also turn around yourself without tripping.

3- Camera placement: on top or under the TV set?

4- Any other tips?

Thanks!

1 - you can hold down the OPTIONS button for a few seconds and it will recenter/calibrate/show play area, etc. not all games will show play area, but all will recenter/recalibrate when you do this.

2- You CAN hang wires, but I don't think you have to. There aren't many games where you are moving around too much as it is not a full room VR experience like Oculus/Vive. Most VR games you will be stationary or sitting and facing foreward. (There are a few exceptions of course like Superhot for instance). BUT if you prefer to stand more than site than yeah, hang the wires.

3 - I put mine on Top and it works very well (I am 6'4" though)

4 - try your best to sit / stand 5-7ft away from the camera. You will get the best results.
- Buy a PS4 Pro if you can, greatly increases the visual PSVR experience.

ENJOY!

My PU box no longer goes into standby when I put the PS4 into rest mode.

It used to work fine, but since the new system software it stays on.

Doesn't run hot, but you can hear the little fan if the room is totally silent.

I can hear the fan on mine as well. Wouldn't that imply that it is "running hot"?

I've had that problem a few times.

Make sure your trophies are synced and there's no active downloads on any accounts.

If I remember correctly I had to disable usb in rest mode.

It's defiantly a known issue as if you search there's multiple threads on various forums on the subject.

Very irritating as I was having to hold the power button on the headset for 6 seconds to put the box in standby.

If I disable USB in rest mode, it will disable my external HD, right? That's pretty much a no-go as I want it to auto-update as well as being able to remotely start downloads.

Unless disabling USB in rest mode doesn't interfere with auto updating data installed on external HDs or starting remote downloads?

Ah sounds like that may not be an option for you.

Have a quick search about to see if there's other solutions for you. Like I said it's been mentioned as an issue on a few sites:

One big great thing I will say about Raw Data is how solid the gameplay is.
I've played the same stage at least 5 times now in the same difficulty switching around characters just because of how fun it is. It's one of those game that is so fun I don't mind replaying the same stage, haven't even try out harder difficulty settings or finish all of the mission. Also I wasn't paying attention at all for the story/narrative.

I've been avoiding mission 2 though, way too spooky.

Damn, that is sexy.

Didn't Sony already say the new box won't be sold separately? Because that's a bummer.
I don't think the new PU is compatible with the V1 headset anyways. Or is it just the streamlined cable going from the headset to the box (that's incompatible)? The number and type of connections look the same.

Them keeping the hit reactions the same as PC was well worth the graphical downgrade. Damn is that shit satisfying.

Man, I feel so so so bad for people who don't have VR legs. Just tried Wildlands and holy fuck is it fun. Gave me the same sense of wonder that Superhot did, where you're just filled with child like joy. Def pick it up if your stomach can handle fast movement

I have a feeling this might be the solution, as weird as it sounds:

Ok so I had the included hdmi cable between PU and TV. Changing it between PS4 and PU seems to help as it now turned off correctly in 2 tries.

I have had issues with certain HDMI cables having a much harder time handshaking between my TV and PC. One cable would handshake every time I tried to switch my PC to my TV. Another cable would only work 1/5 times, and required me to constantly switch between game and PC inputs on my TV until the PC recognized it. I used this problematic cable on my PS3 and XB1 to my TV, and never had an issue with it.

Going to try that first.

My partner's daughter was introduced to VR for the first time two weekends ago. She experienced Invasion! and Allumette. She's 7 and is just not getting to experience console games, so the non-gameplay/interactive options seemed the best.

Are there any other games/apps like those two above that would be a lot of fun for a kid (and me, too!)?

Me daughter is 7 and she likes those two you mentioned, eagle flight in free roam mode and the vr mode in catlaterol damage.

She definitely hasn’t taken to it like she has regular gaming but every now and again she like to jump in.

I’m sure you know this but Sony recommends no one under the age of 12 use psvr... not sure why but I definitely limit her time in there when she has a go.

Just got a second hand (barely used) set of PSVR, camera and move controllers and that VR worlds game cheap from a coworker. Very happy with the results.

Bought it purely to play Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin and am enjoying it so far, looking forward to weekend to actually finish it. The writing in that game is so good, constant laughs.

I think my favourite thing is just being able to have my own personal blacked out room to play regular games in. My room gets a lot of glare and it's not easily fixed so this is just a fun option to have. Plus I'm looking forward to just lying down in bed, face towards ceiling and still being able to play. Maximum laziness.

I've heard Thumper is a must-play, although I'm not a fan of horror games at all.

I'd definitely recommend the Chainsmokers Paris VR.

It's an interactive(via headset movement only) music video, where the scene changes depending on what objects you look at.

It's pretty awesome for the price of FREE.

Thumper is amazing in vr, I made a post in the official thumper thread about it when i completed it, so maybe it can convince you to get it lol:

Just beat this today in VR (on oculus rift), was playing one stage per day as i didn't want to rush it. It felt like it was built for vr, can't imagine playing without it.

The game was overwhelming in a good way. For me it felt like sci-fi horror, but not the kind of horror you get frightened from, instead it was more despair and feeling of hopelessness in the face of something far greater and beyond our understanding. Or another way to put how it felt was imagine mankind discovering a race so far beyond our understanding that we feel both hopeless and admiration at the same time, like a moth enchanted by light only that we know that light is gonna burn us once we touch it XD

The last 2 levels in the final stage were really cool too,<removed this part out of quote as the feeling I describe could be spoilerish>

Yeah I'll stop here I think. Loved the game :D

From what I remember, too much VR can actually mess with your eyes.

That's because some aspects of vision that develop in early age are disrupted by VR headsets.

One of these is the way we naturally match focus and the angle of our eyes. In the real world when you look at a close object your eyes point inwards and there is an automatic muscle response that makes your focus shorten (and then very quickly adjusts to the perfect focus once your brain interprets what it is seeing). This is constantly going on as you look at objects at varying distances.

In VR the screen is always at a fixed distance and therefore your eyes are always focused at that fixed distance. To provide depth in the scene the objects are drawn at varying horizontal spacing to provide the same angles as the object would have in the real world. So your eyes point inwards when looking at close objects as they do in the real world and your automatic focus kicks in but is wrong so your brain adjusts to focus on the fixed distance screen. After time in VR your brain learns not to make the automatic focus adjustment. When you finish playing a game in VR your brain takes a short while to get back into the automatic focus mode again.

What you don't want to do is reduce the effectiveness of this automatic focus in the development stages of a child. So for younger kids I'd restrict the amount of time spent in VR.
