'PlayStation World' hopes?

With EGM having a rumour about Sony possibly going to unravel their PS3 online service in November(dubbed 'PlayStation World), what are your hopes for this system?

I made a concept art of how I would like to see it:

PlayStationWorld.jpg

As Sony have said, no 'Xbox Live' system in that it's a closed system. Every developer and publisher are responsible for their own games online system and are free to do what they will. As I see it, Sony will probably have/require that every game uses their online friendslist system but that pretty much being the only requirement. If someone behaves badly in Splinter Cell, you don't report this to Sony, you report it to Ubi. Each dev are fully responsive for their own games and network code.

So in your mock-up will each game or developer have it's own username and password? Or are you talking about a universal Sony username?

Universal Sony username. Maybe they should provide a key with every PS3 console or something?

(Of course, PS2 games will still use their millions of different login/friendlist cumbersome hell)

Really cool concept but it could turn south real fast if not implemented just right. For example: You have a "movies" section. Cool...but if they only showed trailers or had news from Sony movies it would suck. "Games" of course could be platform exclusive...After all I highly doubt Sony would want to advertise the next Mario game.

And if there are ads in there the service better damn well be free.

I don't think movie corporations would let go of an opportunity like that to support a system like this. (But what do I know? :) )

Games section will of course be for the PlayStation format and PlayStation format alone.

Music is the biggest question though, will Sony start to offer buyable music through this system? Will they push their Connect service or will they just drop it and invite iTunes into the fray?

You might want to think about another mockup that more closely follows the 'Cross Media Bar' (XMB) interface construction that debuted in the PSX and is now featured on the PSP. I imagine it'll probably be the basic OS interface for the PS3 as well.

I hope at Playstation world they don't announce the following
-Playstation 3 costs $8000
-Developers are leaving Playstation 3 at the rate of the Atari Jaguar era, and producing a ps3 game costs 1 billion dollars.
-Blu-Ray is Beta-Max 2.0

I was thinking that when you went out from the hub and to the main menu(XMB) for the PS3, the different categories would go out from the orbit around the PS World globe and line themselves up in a line for XMB(with the globe and the other info fading away into nothingness).

as long as it's free, i don't care. I'm not paying $10+ a month to be called a fag over the internet.

:lol :lol :lol

Ill add being called a nigga by every other white boy. Or if not being called that, hearing it every other game

I just want it to be like Xbox live but free.

In other words, unified login, friends lists, the ability to blackball cheaters, etc.

Of course, if it's free and all the developers are responsible for their own little corners, then I doubt this will be the case, but I'd love to be served (drinky) crow if I'm wrong.

Convenient and userfriendly and with all functionalities like Xbox Live (it doesn't cost shit, even Microsoft gives it free now...) and free to play online. tks.

Asian_boy5 at IGN PS3 made a pretty cool XMB concept himself:

I would expect a minimum of something like that. But preferably better and more interactive and splashy than an enlarged, crisper XMB from the PSP.
