PlayStation4 FW 1.5 details

Servers won't be hammered.

It's not GTA with 20 million trying to play at once. It will be a tiny minority of America trying to update at once on launch.

Then Europe two weeks later. I don't get this worrying concern over servers on both consoles. It's not 20 million people buying these products.

and people harped on Microsoft for their mandatory day 1 Forza 5 online requirement.

You can't even use your PS4 it seems without having to download something that should already be on the system.

Face recognition and voice commands
Users with PlayStation Camera will be able to register their facial image onto their PS4 system, and login to their system using facial recognition instead of DualShock 4. Furthermore, users can use either the microphone of the Mono Head set connected to DualShock 4, or PlayStation Camera to navigate through the PS4 home screen (PlayStation Dynamic Menu) with voice commands to start up games and shutdown the system, among other features; please refer to PS4’s online manual for recognizable voice commands.

I love how Sony is just really chill about this and Microsoft is broadcasting it like crazy.

Agreed.

Guess people in the military can't watch Blu-Rays or DVD's

I definitely would never buy a launch console to be shipped to me while on deployment unless I had family buy it, get everything necessary installed, then ship. Both systems seem to be rather useless without that first patch.

You're right, that does sound crazy!

Tell me you'll sleep on it first... You don't know how hard these things will be to find when you decide you do want one.

I've been thinking about it since GTA V came out and the only game I've been interested in, Watch Dogs, has been pushed back. The lack of compelling games (for me). I just can't think of what I'm getting for $400 that I can't wait until February or March for.

If you could transfer an Amazon pre-order to someone, I would.

You can't use the Xbox One either without a download.

I think the point is that everybody ripped MS for requiring a day 1 update when they announced it a few months ago... And, well, some key use features, like say, watching movies, are locked behind a day 1 update on PS4 as well. For everybody who complained about requiring an internet connection to use the XBox One, due to the need to download a patch, well, looks like an identical situation here.

What would be nice would be if they allow people to download the FW from say the 10th on their PCs so they can just pop it on a stick. Just in case.

Every time I read about this feature coming to the PS4 it still shocks me that it wasn't a standard feature of the PS3 in the first place.

Do you remember the PS3 launch? They didn't even have the ability to check messages ready for launch.

Don't blu-ray players need constant updates for encryption keys and what not?
Nope. I've had my player for a couple years and it works perfectly with new release blu-rays without ever updating.

Who is going to buy this console and not connect it to the internet or put in a game disc? It's not like the PS3 where people will buy it just for the BD player.
Obviously anecdotal. But I knew quite a few people who don't play online that this will screw over.

and obviously we don't know if this update will be on release day discs.

Will you really though?

I might ive never said those words before. It depends on my money situation but if i cant listen to my own music in the background it really is almost enough to cancel my pre-order. If the damn 360 can do it why cant ps4? Fucking clueless mofos.

Vizzeh how am i trolling? I was really looking forward to ps4 launch. I dont give a shit about face and voice recognition. I want basic features like listen to your own music and the deep suspend feature Cerny talked about it like it was a hardware feature. Fuckers.

You're right, it shouldn't be a problem, but.....you never know.

Sony needs to get that in there but some of the responses on page 1 are shameful when calling out Sony on this but leaving MSFT alone with their own day 1 DRM removing patch.

Man you're right, I never read about that here....mostly because it was being yelled from the rooftops

Even my WiiU patched when I first installed it

And here comes a wave of bad PS4 news.

Pretty disappointing to hear. Hopefully none of the promised features end up not coming at all, like party chat with the PS3.

Gonna hold off a year or two until I touch any next-generation console.

So nobody is discussing how Sony already has basic UI navigation through voice using the PS Camera and that it also works without the camera using a headset unlike the competition?

ITT some people think Sony should start to manufacture PS4s once the firmware is feature complete.

No sleep function at launch sucks though, I hope it doesn't take too long to be implemented.

You can play offline without the patch on PS4, day one. 300MB
You can not play offline on XB1 without a patch, day one. 1.5GB

Not the same.

I would be very surprised if Music Unlimited was the only source of playing music in the background. I'm sure it's just worded this way so they can get people to adopt MU.

I'm pretty excited that the play as you download feature is in. I thought that was going to be something that comes later. Hopefully most of the launch games support it.

How is music unlimited? I have been looking for a good subscription music service and wouldn't mind the option of playing it on my PS4.

Updated firmware is, or at least was an issue, on the PS3 as well. My cousin bought a movie on BD, popped it in his PS3, and was told it required a FW update to play. He ended up hauling his PS3 over to my house to be updated, but it only ever happened that once.

I'm not sure if this affects standalone BD players as well, since I've never owned one.

What a terrible comparison. Day one patch in Xbone removes the DRM crap that make the console unplayable without internet so the patch is mandatory. This one just adds features.

Really? 20 minute update to turn offline mode on? Really? Its going to add/update features as well.

Because when they started manufacturing consoles probably 2 months ago the OS wasn't finished. tada.

I know, and let's face it - what's better - to update day one or wait a couple of weeks? Seriously I don't get the issue - Sony are constantly working to improve the system...

Some people in this thread getting pretty upset/angry over a 300MB FW update. I can't imagine how they react to real problems in life.

...hm nothing new. Sony will always suck at this.

What a joke, having to update your console on the day of a purchase lol.

MS will always crush them at this

Trolling at its worst.

not sure if your just blatantly trolling or not? Alot of features will be added, like all consoles, they have to prioritize.

Still people having been asking for custom soundtrack for years .
If you can only do with Music Unlimited it's fucking stupid and not want most people wanted.
I can understand that you need a update since the systems were being made for months but not having custom soundtrack is a slap in the face .

That's true, but I remember Nintendo having a major problem with the Wii U update on release day and around Christmas.. and something tells me 20million Wii U's weren't sold :D

Thankfully, Sony has a more sophisticated network infrastructure than Nintendo, though.
