How is this any different than both the xbox one and wii u?
people are going off the deep end over a 300mb patch smh.
This is why I never trust Sony. It's not about the day 1 patch but the fact the features are missing on day 1 and if background music playback is only limited to their shitty service I wouldn't be surprised.
*shrug* it is what it is.
people have been trumpeting "XB1 wasn't ready to launch this year"
real world: like any major launch - everything is coming down as late as possible for a number of reasons.
it sucks that we've got big day 1 updates but that's the reality.
Do people think that they start making the console a few days before launch?
Don't see why they don't just include a firmware disc in the console box. Unless it can't read the dam thing without the update in the first place...
Music unlimited? You better be able to stream music off the HDD, too.
Hmmm. I hope I'm not required to have 1.5 fw installed to play disc based games on launch. It'd be nice if I can just start playing kzsf while waiting for the fw download to complete. Then the system can just update itself when it restarts.
Certain people are just desperate to spin something into bad news for the PS4.
It genuinely makes them uncomfortable seeing all the positivity over a product that competes with the one they're buying.

Some of these responses smh.
I really don't see what the big deal is apart from no suspend/resume at launch.
A patch is a "gotcha"? Really now? No suspend/resume sucks, but wow some of you must be on 56k or something.
Only problem might be Sonys server...
I'd brace yourself, Microsoft hold loads of patents around these kind of things . That could be the terrifying truth as to why it's not there.
Record, take screenshots, and upload gameplay effortlessly
The PS4 system provides dedicated, always on video encoding systems that enables seamless uploading of gameplay. Users can share their epic triumphs by simply hitting the Share button on DualShock 4, take screenshots or scan through the last 15 minutes of gameplay, tag it and return to the gamethe video uploads as the user plays. At the PS4 systems launch in North America, users will be able to share their images and videos with friends on Facebook and screenshots with followers on Twitter, though users will need to sign up for individual accounts to use Facebook and Twitter.
There is a key difference though.
Most of the XBone delayed stuff isn't coming until 2014.
PS4 is thourgh a day one patch.
They clearly were not in the same stage of development, but both were rushed a little bit.
People seem to forget that part
Do you guys seriously not have a phone or tablet or mp3 or radio etcc... to play music while you play?
It's really not that big of a deal.
You are no Heisenberg, no.Don't see why they don't just include a firmware disc in the console box. Unless it can't read the dam thing without the update in the first place...

This differs a bit from xbox one dayone patch because :
-It's not mandatory and the PS4 can still play games
-You can patch from a usb key, you don't need to have your console online
I just hope they'll release the patch a few days before the launch to avoid servers congestion.
I hate when GAF overreacts.
I'LL WRITE AGAIN. SONY HAS SAID ONE DOES NOT HAVE TO USE MU TO LISTEN CUSTOM SOUNDTRACKS. IT IS STILL THE CASE UNLESS THEY LIED.
But I don't want them to stop working on the OS months before the console launches, or hold off on manufacturing the console to finish the OS in time, because that's what would have had to happen to include everything. All of this should be included already. I don't want to try and download 300mbs on day one when everyone will be killing their servers.
Wow. So much bias in this post.
I think this day one patch also explains why we haven't seen any hands on with the GUI beyond the dev kit XMB.
Vita has custom soundtracks that work very similar to 360.

Your definition of "withheld" is a strange one. What exactly do you have invested in the PS4 now vs. a month ago or any other time that somehow makes this not "upfront" enough for you? You still have three weeks to pretend cancel your pretend preorder if you want.I'm not mad about having to download a patch, it's just lame they withheld this information instead of being more upfront about it.
The meltdowns on Day 1 if WiiU had actually been a popular console....
You should be able to.

Fucking nice.
Can't stop playing the DS4 on my PS3, can't wait until I'm using it for the system it is intended for![]()
