Apparently have to watch the anime.

I watch the anime stream, but I take it I won't be able to use the codes?

Universal serial code during the anime, like Serena's Fennekin last year. Probably through the d Button service

Sweet Arceus on a pogostick, yesssssssssss!

Will get one for my collection then farm some I suppose! Kept my JPN game at start just in case for this stuff. Collected the HK shiny Rayquaza and the Hoopa the other day (completely forgot I'd gotten the shiny Rayquaza until I went to retrieve the Hoopa and she gave me Rayray first). /dance Going to be farming a bit of these then.

That narrative Pokemon thread got me thinking about something else. Would anyone like if Gen VII did a Black/White and limited you to only new Pokemon until completing the game? Game Freak will likely reuse most of the previous models so it wouldn't be too hard to imagine.

Gen VI also relied a bit heavily on older Pokemon so it would be nice to see another contrast. The only thing is that I don't see Game Freak doing it because setting up Zoroark to be the next Lucario failed miserably and TPC might want to play it safe marketing-wise.

I wouldn't mind that happening every few gens, but then again, I'm probably one of the biggest Gen V junkies you could meet.

I'd love it. Playing through White and discovering a whole new roster was one of my favourite Pokémon experiences, and I'd love to do it now we have worldwide releases and I'd get the chance to discover some of the new Pokémon myself.

Yeah I would love this. Gen V was a breath of fresh air.

Urgh, using the Dexnav in cave is annoying as hell. Why did they think it would be a good idea to have the Pokémon move about?

I mean sneaking is already hard with the 3DS circle pad.

I would actually prefer it if Game Freak pulled another Gen 5 for Gen 7, while Gen 6 did have some good side it ultimately left me feeling disappointed especially as I was expecting tons of new evolution for past gen Pokémon and I only got 1.

Also Zoroark failed to be the next Lucario because they stupidly made it difficult to obtain in Black and White, Plus Lucario was seen as a noble pure heroic Pokémon whereas Zoroark was the polar opposite.

Playing Japanese White 2 on Challenge Mode has made me realize just how much I love Gen V. I'm about to enter what's-her-name's old gym with a team of level 25s and I am hoping my Sandslash can work some magic. >_>;

Who put stories in my Pokemon? I never asked for stories. Why are people asking for story?

Gotta love Pokemon threads in gaming.

Yes, Elesa! Thanks.

Fighting her now. As long as Emolga's nice to me I shouldn't have too many issues I think.

EDIT: I now have a newfound love of Sandslash. That was pretty easy, though Liepard did bite the dust. Which is expected. Because it's Liepard.

Eevee's so cute, I really like its addition to Serena's team

and it's so weird for the terrible childhood friends to be good characters in the anime, I'm still not used to it

narrative pokemon thread? I'm scared.

It's a mixed bag. Not nearly as bad as you are expecting, but it's not really good either.

At this point we have to accept that whenever a Pokémon thread appears on the first page of Gaming, there will be people to fuck it up.

I'm just amazed that it didn't happen with Birdies thread yet...

well it's a more personal experience discussion rather than asking people from gaming, and it doesn't involve some weird "wanting" from the game

That's true but I thought it wouldn't stop people from coming in with posts like "it went downhill after Gen 2", or "why do they keep adding new Pokémon, they are ugly" or other lovely opinions.

I'm just glad it didn't happen. I wanna share my thoughts on the six Gens too in that thread, and I think I will do that this week.

Because not everyone is you? I wouldn't mind having them change up the plot and structure of the game but I don't see that happening. As interesting as it would be to see other adventures set in a Pokemok world, it's easier to market the franchise when they have the same structure.

So uhh Joe's getting harassed due to some commentary on YK sales/marketing? But I thought it was someone from GAF who said stories about YK merch being crap on its second wave?

I feel like this is gonna be the episode Frogadier evolves after that trailer, huh?

Just about everything. It's one of the best remakes ever made.

Can you be more specific? I've heard someone mention that they think the exp give out is too small in the original is it fixed in SoulSilver?

Also is there a database somewhere that shows what pokemon are catchable in each version? I'd like to make sure to play the ones that my favorite pokemon is in.

I completely forgot that next week the final episode of the regular XY Series will be aired.

Wich makes it even more obvious to me that frogadier will evolve either this week or next week

I fought every trainer I could find.

First time through I ended up fighting level 50 Dragonites with a team of level 37s. Of course, I was still able to win (Power items make most fights pretty trivial if you know the right way to use them) and if you don't raise a full team like I did then you should be fine.

Correct. The level balance in both the original and the remakes isn't great. Trainers are too low level until the final gym and the e4 which have a sudden spike up. It's slightly better in the remakes but still probably not enough for everyone. Besides that though the reason the remakes are godly games are:

The sheer amount of features and pokemon in the game. If you use everything to its fullest you can catch almost every single pokemon gen 1-4 in a single game.

How good it looks.

The little touches such as the pokemon trailing you, the original soundtrack player.

No Vs. Seeker is the reason I still consider Platinum superior to HG/SS.

They need to bring that back. And add a post-game version called the In-VS seeker that changes rematches into Inverse Battles.

I never got past Blackthorn because there was nothing to grind on around that point of the game.

Thanks. I tried playing a few minutes of it, but my computer seems unable to handle DS games. It was really slow. I don't get it. The Indivisble prototype plays fine, but the minute I try a DS game, the shit is a disaster.

As much as I like gen V, I don't really want this to happen. One of my favorite things about gen VI is that Game Freak finally took advantage of how many Pokemon there are, finding different Pokemon on every route is great. Going from the Pokemon variety in X&Y to ORAS was pretty disappointing.

I wouldn't be too sad if they tried that again though, I'd just be using repels more, and probably bring a Sneasel over through the Pokemon Bank.

So far, each generation of Pokemon have alternated between ingame dexes with large amounts of new Pokemon and dexes with small amounts and more of a focus on older Pokemon + evolutions/pre-evolutions for them (or in Gen 6's case, Mega Evolutions)

Gen 5 and 6 took these patterns to the extreme, but given how it's been in the past Gen 7 will likely be a focus on new Pokemon.

(Personally, I prefer the generations where they focus on new Pokemon)

Based on that pattern, I think the process of coming up with Pokemon is a longer period than just within a single generation - it's already known that they come up with tons of designs that they eventually whittle down to a set number for a gen, but maybe the amount of Pokemon they come up with is actually meant to serve 2 gens - the large portion going to the odd gen, and the small portion going to the even gen, with old evos and dex padding to make up for it. There's not really evidence for this, though :p

Although, there is the fact that Shellos/Gastrodon was supposed to be part of G3, and the matter of all those empty indexes in RBY that just happened to correspond perfectly with G2 Pokemon...

You know, the moment I put "who put stories in my pokemon?" in a sentence, I thought it would clue people in that that was a joke :T

maybe I should just put a :p face in spoiler tags

Kalos had too many Pokemon that I felt it lacked an identity. Didn't think we needed like every bird and rodent in!

I think a Regional Dex around 300 and nicely balanced (and somewhat logical as to what Pokemon appear) is good, honestly. Honestly I thought the Hoenn Regional Dex was very solid, probably my favorite out of the post-Johto games.

Anyway, does the Shiny XY Legendaries perhaps work against a "Z"? Seems odd they'd just hand them all out if they were planning on a return to Kalos where they'd all surely be catchable in the third version like usual.

EDIT: Just realized the today is the 2-year anniversary of Gen VI! Wow, time flies!

But Gen VI don't have "expies" outside of the usual (bird, mammal, etc.), and even then their expies have uniqueness (Talonflame and Diggersby, former being the one who moves faster than light and the former being stronger than Groudon).
