2018 would make Gen VI the longest generation ever.
2017 is a safe bet.
Let's compare
Generation 1: February 1996 - November 1999 - 3 years, 9 months
Generation 2: November 1999 - November 2002 - 3 years
Generation 3: November 2002 - September 2006 - 3 years, 10 months
Generation 4: September 2006 - September 2010 - 4 years
Generation 5: September 2010 - October 2013 - 3 years 1 month
Generation 6: October 2013 - ??? - 2 years 1 month and counting. Indicators of new game coming in 2016 for Generation VI.
Hmm...I guess it does make sense to look at the games from within their own frame of reference, but is there still two development teams?
What does the timeline look like with that in mind?
I've always been kind of confused about this. If Z is being developed by the core series team, could they also be working on Gen VII and be ready that quickly?
Assuming Team 1 made RSE, DPPt, BW (I guess Team 2 did BW2?) and XYZ, then there has always been at least a two year gap between the main games and the"third" version and then again between the third version and a new gen. Basically Team 1 comes out with a game every two years, except this year it seems Z is lttp. So I guess 2017 would make sense considering its 4 years from XY release...but still...
Then again, I know for XY they expanded and there are all sorts of other variables that would factor in. Like they could easily add in dev. members from ORAS after it was complete and slowly transition into gen VII..
Gen V was weird because there was no remake, instead a sequel and brand new console gen just one year after...
What if theres a third dev team now, the one that developed BW2 developing Z version? :OOO And then Team 1 will be ready at launch for NX
Idk. Probably not. Exciting times though.
