Pokémon Community Thread 4: "Your Portal to What's Hip and Happening in Sinnoh!"

I will say that BW2 did a decent job of mixing up the Pokémon distribution and letting you get good, rarer Pokémon early. Catching a Riolu before the first gym was a revelation at the time.

Flocessy was a fucking gift from the heavens, I don't know what we did to deserve it, honestly.

Was really neat for them to make you catch your own starter like that.

Half kidding, Gen 5 starters were so boring and everything else with their types caught in the first few areas were better. Riolu / Lucario just feel like the starter because everyone goes for one.

Most of Gen V's starters are great outside of Samurott.

I really want a Fire/Electric glass cannon with a cool hidden ability starter for gen 8.

I need my own cannon story starter like Joker with his Charmander.

Edit: forgot what I came in here to post. Lol..

Nope, GameFreak is gonna go crazy and do a Grass/Water, Fire/Grass, and Water/Fire starter set

I WISH

I think game freak are probably hesitant to use starter types which upset the fire water grass effectiveness triangle. Iirc only gen 4 breaks it.

I think Grass/Fire is actually one of the few remaining unused type combos

There's still plenty of unused combos. I think only water and flying combine with everything.

It's a shame, it would cool as fuck if your Rival got the weaker Pokemon at the start ad kept their second form for a weirdly long time or you went without battling them for a while before right near the postgame around the E4, they spring a battle on you and the Pokemon you expect to be able to wail on real quickly suddenly manages to turn the tables on your with its new resistances and STAB attacks.

Compared to the possible permutations, it's really only a handful.

Is there any place in Sun where I can find
info on the Moon UB's so I can trade for them via GTS? Or is it 'trade with friends only?'

I'm still missing a Drampa and a Type: Null besides the Legendaries for a Living Dex of Sun/Moon. Well, and that unreleased one as well as US/UM forms, which seem to be happening.

I wonder do you think a Pokemon game where you play as someone who's old enough to drive would work? There are cars in the pokemon world, but the player is walking everywhere or riding a bike because they're children, but if you had a character that was older and could drive would the structure of the game still work?

You find Pokemon among grass and in caves and get into battles with people on the road. It seem like it would be a struggle to keep the flow of the game by having cars. I can imagine battles being few and far between and I'm not sure about catching. That would seem like an issue.

If you type in the Pokemon's name manually in GTS, you can search for them without having seen them in-game before.

If something like this happened the game will auto correct the player itself.

A mechanic like a car in game will separate Pokémon trainers from Pokémon casuals. We will get a mass of posts in the OT trying to figure out why their level 6 starter can't beat the gym trainers Pokémon who are around level 10 and asking where are they supposed to catch wild Pokémon. While the majority of us wouldn't use the car until we've caught and figured out of the exact locations of the new Pokémon that were leaked the months leading up to the release. It can be done. It'll be the one mechanic that if you use too often the game will be in hard mode but if you don't use it it'll be business as usual.

Considering the amount of types, there's comparitively not a whole lot left. I think every type has been paired with at least 10 others at this point. They probably won't burn through them any time soon though.

I love how Gen 5 handled show casing the new Pokémon by forcing players to only use them in Black and White, till post game. But Black and White flipped this on its head by adding older Pokémon within the region thus making the old Pokémon feel brand new and exciting.

You guys ready for Fire/Fighting starter in Gen 8?

Meh, all I need is my trusty Fire/Flying starter.

Though I am really hoping that trading between switch is as smooth and easy as it was when the game were handheld.

Yeah bug used to be super effective against Bug as was Poison against Bug, this was changed in gen 2 when the type chart got overhauled and would pretty much remain that way till Gen 6.

What would the ability to a car add to the game? Plus it just sounds like a hassle as the player would have to get in and out to explore caves and route that cars can't venture to.

People actually like Golisopod? Seems way too OTT in its' attempt to be cool, and I say that as someone who generally likes 'cool' designs.

Alolan Vulpix/Ninetales are the only Pokemom from Alola that I'd say come close to those from Kalos. The Kalos dex is one of the best in the franchise's history imo, while Alola is the worst batch yet. 20 legendaries in one game is ridiculous enough, but them all being ugly abominations makes it even worse. Imo, of course.

I want them to double down on the path they took with Sun and Moon for gen 8

RIP

The clones might not even be that bad if they would just switch them up sometimes and not have both in the same regional dex.

I'm fine with expies that seem like a shoutout but are actually their own thing if you put your mind to it - like Amoongus, despite being an Electode expy, is actually its own thing.

It's when you get shit like the early creature not standing out. For fuck's sake even Zigzagoon and Bidoof have their own shit going on. Nothing about Patrat makes him different from Rattata.

It actually isn't. Gen 1 has an oversight with dual types where it'll display the higher numbered scenario in the index rather than correctly not displaying an effectiveness message. Bug on Ghost (50%) is lower than Bug on Poison (200%), so it will display the super effective text for the second type. This also results in ground moves on Charizard or Zapdos not saying "There was no effect", but that "The attack missed".

Didn't know/Never notice this.

Bug types/Bug attacks being super effective against poison types makes total sense to me. Growing up I've watched a ton of nature documentaries and now I watch BBC's Bug Wars series in Youtube and while I'm not a bug scientist or expert whichever bug wins the fight tends to eat the loser, poison sacks and all.

I can't wait for a Pokémon based on a Centipede and no! Scolipede is based off of a Milipede so it doesn't count.

Thank god they're confirming XY anime is its own universe.

How are they?

Considering it continues on directly from Best Wishes, which was a direct continuation of DP, which was a direct continuation of AG, which was a direct continuation of the original.

Now we have Misty & Brock with elements from their appearances in AG and DP.

You are clutching at straws. This is all one long continuity. Deal with it.

That works. Working on Alola forms now, but they mess up my Living Dex in Bank so bad. So do multiple formed Pokemon. I have no idea how to deal with it.

I need Drampa and roughly 10 more Pokemon to complete my Living Dex right now

Exactly. Crossposting from the news thread

Just to clarify, since people have some absurd ideas about timelines for the anime

The Kanto saga led directly into the Orange Island saga.
The Orange Islands led directly into the Johto saga.
The Johto saga led directly into Advance Generation (Hoenn saga)
Advance Generation led directly into Diamond & Pearl
Diamond & Pearl didn't lead directly into Black & White leading people to think it was a reboot, but soon got confirmed to not be when Dawn appeared a year and a half into it.
Black & White led directly into X & Y
X & Y didn't lead directly into Sun & Moon, just a veiled reference at the start of Sun & Moon showing Ash give Oak his Pokémon from that region. Now, it has Misty & Brock appearing, with Pokémon they had in Advance Generation and Diamond & Pearl respectively (Gyarados & Steelix) but with Mega Evolutions which Ash didn't learn about until X & Y indicating this is a continuation of X & Y

This shows a direct continuity whether people like it or not.

It was a joke and an attempt to peace myself with XY Ash being his own thing not bogged down by baggage.

I'm just glad the closest thing XY has to touch with BW is I AM GUNDAM, who is arguably the best character in BW anime.

Why should anybody be concerned with somebody else's idea of continuity anyway for a show where the passage of time only matters when it needs to and the protagonist has been 10 years old for two decades?

I'm surprised your go-to Mamoru Miyano reference is Setsuna of all his other roles.

because gundam memes

also his other roles I'm fond of that he voiced are more on the English side (Flynn, Riku)

although didn't realize he was Kiba from Wolf's Rain

I just got so close to beating Cameron. I fucked up and decided to spend a turn using a Burn Heal when the first turn the Scubug used Rain Dance and then on my second I took away half its life with Wing Attack.

Are there any good Pokémon YouTubers out there? Particularly ones that cover news?

I watched Verlisify for Pokémon news until a day or two ago; when I found out he's alt-right and was defending nazis on Twitter. Since then, I started learning that he's just an awful person in general. I'd prefer not to support someone like that when there are other good YouTubers out there who aren't awful people. I remember a ton of Pokémon YouTubers making up fake stories for views so I have no idea where to look. I've been checking out a few YouTubers so far but they seemed kind of fake and overly excited.

I'm assuming that'll be a code from Game in the U.K., then.

Ugh.

Indeed, I haven't been there since they did the Lycanroc event.

Though honestly I am not too fussed if I end up missing the Marshadow event since as of gen 6 event Pokémon don't feel exciting as they don't unlock anything nor do they feel part of the Pokémon lore, it's like Game Freak stop trying to create a back story and a sense of mystery for them within the game.

Yeah rule of thumb, avoid Pokétuber they are all faker, overly excited as if they are pepped on sugar because they think that their audience have a short attention span, resort to dumb click bait title and most of the time come up with nonsense theory as having a Pokémon only channel is difficult due to lack of news at times.

Oh and they do top ten whatever listing which gets old super fast.

Verlisify is a toxic and all around terrible human being that only hurts the community.

With Poketubers It depends on the type of content you're into. I mostly stick to PokeaimMD, Shofu, and Cybertron.

CybertronProductions is pretty good for VGC stuff, but uh, yeah. Not exactly a great selection out there. If anyone wanted to jump in, be informative or even just post battles on the cart (Showdown vids tend to get less views from what I've seen), and not act like a buffoon or advocate for some really horrible ideologies, then the market would pretty much be yours.

Hadn't known that about Verlisify but I'm not exactly surprised. Somebody who constantly sends his goons after people who would dare to commit the unspeakably evil crime of Dream Ball Aegislash and who constantly hypes himself up as a VGC god while doing stupid shit like making an Assault Vest Goodra set with Rain Dance and saying Giratina-O/Zygarde was the true 2016 meta seems like he'd fit that crowd perfectly.
