Travel around town and scout out where the most stable towers are.
Go to bad/rough neighborhoods, competition will not be as fierce.
Build your team's towers instead of taking down other teams' towers.

And when you are going to evolve a Pokemon, the icon is now colored if you already have it.

What bugs me a little is that so many Pokemon are just not present in my area.
The starters are very uncommon and they also can't be hatched from eggs
No Snubbull
No Mareep
No Houndur
And most other interesting Pokemon are also very rare.
They need to change the eggs to make all Gen 2 availabe from eggs goddammit.
I hope we will get Gen 3 during summer or fall since Gen 3 actually has some cool Pokemon -_-

If you check the Nest Atlas or simply move around your town, you should be easily be able to get most of the Gen 2 Pokémon. The Pokémon you listed are far from the rarest, and they frequently show up in nests.
Swinub doesn't even naturally spawn in my biome, but nests still show up in my city. I don't think I'll go out of my way just to catch more Swinub, but the opportunity to get them and several others exists.
Eggs for Gen 2 starters are only disappointing for IV purposes. Otherwise, they are not hard to find.
I think the Pokémon you should be concerned about are Ampharos and Tyranitar. You can't find nests for the base form of these guys, and you're basically having to rely on 10K eggs.
I was lucky enough to catch only one Mareep and Flaafy each, but I'm a long way from Ampharos. I don't know where the hell Larvitar is. Acquiring these will be hell.
I won't be seeing 10km eggs for a long time, because I don't play much these days. I haven't spent money on this in months, and I spent 300 Coins on Pokémon Storage upgrades when their cost was halved.
I'm slowly building up my stash from local gyms, and I've just been averaging 20 a day. Today I'll be getting 30. I'll definitely use Coins on Incubators, now that my Pokémon and Item Storage are sufficient.

What decides what eggs you get? I generally have 7-8 five km ones and 1-2 of two or ten km. Really frustrating and all of my two km eggs have been gen one.

Yeah, what's bugging me in Gen 2 is the spawn variety. At first glance it seems fine, in my area Swinub, Natu, Hoothoot, Sentret, Wooper, Murkrow, Sneasel. Often I'll come across Hoppip and Aipom. The problem is that nothing spawns beyond that. Since Gen II released I saw several other species of Pokemon but that's a rare occurence, majority of Pokemon simply never spawn and if I want to complete Johto Dex I most certainly have to keep track of nests, otherwise it's simply impossible.

Thank God for the proper egg dates. Turns out I still have one pre-gen 2 egg left, a 5km back from Valentines. I had 8-9 5km at the time and had never been able to get all 5km eggs going simultaneously since then, so I had suspected I may have still had one. Now I can finally get rid of the bastard with lowered expectations haha.

Random, but: did you ever frequent the Prado near Sandy Springs? I popped by this afternoon since I was in the area but the quad stops looked like they were removed. Too bad, that was a nice area to grind.
I'm just missing an Aerodactyl out of the Gen 1 regional dex. I'll trade someone a Lapras for one ;_;

Same need an Aetodactyl and gen 1 is done at this rate I doubt I will ever see one nevermind catch one.

id like to think they are but i highly think it has a higher chance to give you whats common in your area first before it randomizes anything else ive hatched 1014 eggs and id say more then 90% have been whats common in my area

They want an order number though, and you don't get an order number for items purchased with coins as far as I can tell.

Think they need to do something about spawns. I live in a very rural area, pretty far from any nests. It's a long trip for me. Despite that, I completed Gen 1 (aside from Kabutops, which I did get from a nest in London. Everything else was caught/hatched). But for Gen 2? Made no progress in weeks. Some stuff just doesn't seem to spawn where I live or hatch from eggs. Making me lose interest very rapidly.

Yeah Gen 2 is weird. Loads of things that feel like shouldn't be super rare are super rare.
And then things like Mantine, Pineco, Gligar, Sudowoodo and Skarmory that are 10k hatches I come across fairly frequently.

It is simply that common Pokémon are also in the common group.
I refuse to believe that Phanpy is "common". I've hatched around 60 5kms since Gen 2 came out and still don't have one.
Also, I apparently got a Metal Coat on Thursday without realizing. Nice. Scizor is now mine!
That's RNG for you, since Gen 2 started I've gotten Mantine, Gligar, Sudowoodo and 3 Mareep (thank God for that), but I am yet to see a single Pineco.
I think my game broke today, in the most positive way. In the first two months I've gotten only a single item outside of streaks and today I've rolled three sun stones in a single day, only one of those from 7th day streak. Sweet.

I hatched 4 or 5 Dratini in the first two weeks of Gen 2, been 9 candies away from Dragonite ever since. Still not got a Larvitar but I've only hatched 3 Pineco I think. Caught a wild Forretress on the first day of Gen 2. One of my best ever wild encounters.

"common" is relative. It's still a 1/40 chance.
I used to get a decent spawn once every couple of weeks around my house but its been all garbage since January, even with more scanners, there's nothing around.
I've noticed that rare spawn points seemed to have moved to commerical areas like where there's a lesiure park with a cinema, McDo, Starbucks, Pizza Hut etc or a shopping centre. Eg, a cinema in Stockport was a common spawn point for the Hitmon's several weeks ago and now its a Larvitar spawn point.

I swear the only things in 10k eggs anymore and mantine and sudowodo.
I've hatched like 10-15 10k eggs since gen 2 came out and i have 7 mantine and 3 sudowodo @_@

I know your pain. So many Mantine...
I'm jealous. I still need to replace 2 eggs with 10 KM ones to get started on a 9 * 10 hatchathon.
It needs to be double XP. Anything else is pointless.
