Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

This isn't compatible with my fairly newish phone. Is that likely to change as they release more versions (I'm UK so I'm not sure its released at all), or am I screwed?

It will say that for us because the app technically isn't out here yet. I think a link for the apk has been posted in the thread somewhere and that's where I installed it from :)

The app doesn't connect to or send any notification to the Apple Watch at all. As I expected in the other thread when people got defensive. I haven't even received a notification to the phone stating I'm close to a Pokemon while it's running in the background. Are you supposed to always be in the app?

still no love for us Canadians. Slipped out work to preorder go plus too but toysrus and eb's both are not taking in-store pre-order at the moment.

This Pokemon Go delay thing plus the stupid Canada Post strike thing is so dumb. Always loved Canada lol.

Tired of the sting of being greeted with

after having to painstakingly re-log in (fwp)

They should just tell you before you log in.

Yes. There are no notifications whatsoever.

i missed out on a squirtle at work, so im bummed. chose a charmander as a starter, and caught a pidgey and paras so far at work.

I've yet to see you offer any solutions either other than just shit happens.
I've been offering solutions on what to do for people experiencing issues, thanks.

I made one post and people came in and pointed fingers laughing saying I should of expected this, so I replied. I did have a solution, something that was posted above.
You've made like five on the last page alone, and you're lucky some other people came up with ideas.

Anyway, just caught another Pidgey. One more and I'll have enough candy to evolve!

It was working fine this morning, definitely blowing up everywhere. Even people at work are talking about it.

Once the servers are more stable, this game will sail.

anyone know, does each pokemon have the same max CP fully upgraded? Or could two ratattas have a different max CP when fully upgraded?

I think what is happening may be tough to conceptualize, and it's certainly not at all unfair to be disappointed of feel that Niantic hasn't done an adequate job preparing for the load of what was a guaranteed popular game.

But at the same time, it's actually possible that they did everything they could, even things that made people unhappy, and it's still just too much for the infrastructure to handle at the moment.

I mean by way of anecdote, the number 1 post on reddit right now is about this game. I'm not talking about the gaming subreddit, I mean the #1 post on /r/all at this moment. That isn't just "big mobile game launch" or "big game launch" in general, that's cultural-event level exposure.

The good news is when its working its really fun, got me to walk around more then I usually do. I could see my self driving to parks and stuff just to go on walks and check out my app.

well done so far.

they just need to get the server stuff figured out fast.
Yeah much like Ingress, it has a great quality of incentivizing you to go just a little out of your way, do a little more walking, maybe find something nearby that you've walked past 100 times and never noticed. Plus, there's a very addictive quality in the "just one more" sense especially if you're hiking/jogging/on a bike.

Unlike Ingress, it also has Pokemon in it. Which makes it much more enjoyable than Ingress. :P

Did Ingress alert players when they were near portals? I don't remember that in my time with it. The only notifications I got were about upcoming events or local conflicts.

They are both GPS-based games, right? So how could they function with the game not running? The app must be active so that it can track your location. Are there any similar games which don't work this way?

So... any of you guys thinking of buying that Pokemon Go accessory now? I somehow see it very convenient now after playing Pokemon Go

I'm American, my car gets forty rods to the hogshead and that's the way I likes it!

all this time I thought Americans were educated both measure metrics but decided to stick with inches and foots and that...

like, decided to Ignore the metric system..

now..i believe I was wrong..

So I'm still unclear if I get notifications of nearby pokemon when the screen is off and the phone is in my pocket. Seems I only get them when I have the app open.

Gave up on the Pokemon Trainer Club and started anew with a Google account. Game works flawlessly for me right now

I am, though I am sad that it is mostly compelling by way of the main application missing some pretty basic convenience features (not a coincidence, I'm sure). It seems like it would help out with my "playstyle" quite a bit though- I often have my phone in my backpack while out cycling.

I don't see myself ever making any in-app purchases, and I can imagine wasting quite a few hours with this thing, so it wouldn't be the worst money spent.

We learn it in school (at least I did), we just never use it, so people forget it.

I feel like knowing what a meter is should be common knowledge however.

How do you guys feel about the pokemon distribution? I feel like it is a bit too generous, but maybe I'm just in a better than average area?

I've seen Sandshrew, Caterpie, Vulpix, Butterfree, Growlithe, Zubat, both Nidorans, Nidorino, Eevee, Pidgey, Spearrow, Dodou, Diglett, Mankey, Ekans, Abra, Paras, Geodude, Pidgeotto, Rhyhorn, Meowth, Rattatta, Exeggcute, Weedle, and Venonaut.

I live in a very suburban area in SoCal. Does this seem about right? I know some people said they're only seeing Zubats and stuff, but I feel like that's a bit too generous for one general area. Didn't go too far from my house for any of these.

Not to mention people randomly finding Dragonite in ordinary locations.

You continued to reply and asked questions, and I answered and gave a reasons. I'm not sure what you expected me to say? Maybe a "hey man, that sucks, we're all in the same boat" would've been nice, instead of saying how I'm always complaining and how I should've known better. I'm already working on other things now anyways. Not sure why you needed to prolong this whole thing.

Doesn't answer my question.

Low power mode allows the screen to dim. You won't be able to play the game without the app being open. That seems to go without saying. But if you want to put the phone in your pocket and receive vibration notifications, low power mode will allow you to do so.

I knew the *moment* I walked back inside and got comfortable the servers would come back on. F***

I got a pang in my heart I used to get as a kid when I saw a fad-like toy come out that I had to have. All logic and reason tells me no (especially since I have a smart watch and I KNOW this game will get SW support eventually, it has to). But the desire. It's still there.

So if I lock my phone and put it in my pocket I wont get any notifications? Lame.

correct, you only get them when the app is open. Enabling low power mode means that when you turn your phone upside-down, the screen will go almost all black (you can still see the time, battery, etc. at the top and can see "Pokemon Go" faintly in the middle of the screen). While low power mode is on, the app will still track your steps and spawn pokemon. The black screen provided by the low power mode option is not the same as your phone going to sleep or you locking your phone (doing either of these pauses the app and prevents it from functioning until you open up the app again.

I just caught a Horsea at work in my rec centre office.

I don't even care that it's unrealistic I'm so happy about it.

<3 Pokémon GO.

How come I'm level four and don't have a team yet? I keep capturing worthless wild Pokemon and can't challenge gyms yet until level 5. Along with not letting me log in this is super annoying.
