My nearest pokecentre is a church but I'm not christain so I can't go there so I guess the game is dead to me.

Well, that wasn't smart. You should have been prepared!
When you click one, all that does is keep it on your screen so that if you want to try hunting that particular one down on foot you don't have to keep looking at the full "Nearby" screen. As you get closer you can watch the footprints count down in real time.
Can't really play the game in NYC - GPS is barely functional, posting me on the wrong side of the road or not moving my character at all.
Also, the lack of actual battles to catch wild pokemon seems like a missed opportunity.
I can see myself getting addicted to the game once it's functional but can't imagine that obsession will last the dozens of hours I had with the original games.

i think when you click on one it filters that pokemon out from the rest
I haven't even had a chance to play yet, let alone expect the server to drop again.

I have a Galaxy S5 Active and had this issue. I downloaded "Stay Alive!" which lets you select an app and tell it not to timeout. It's free.

I managed to take over a gym after 10 minutes of connecting and reconnecting, after getting kicked out between battles. Now the server is shitting itself again.

Got it working for a second and it was WAY off from where I was, like a 30 minute bus ride distance.
Least I got some items before it crashed. Oh well. I'll try again later.

If you managed to get the Pokeball to capture the dragonite but then the app crashed, you would have had it once the servers came back up. But not anymore since you deleted the app.

Downloaded a free and anticipated game within first 24 hours it is available.
See that everyone is having connection issues but yolo
Have a miserable experience with the server like everyone else.
Complain about it and uninstall app.

It's a new launch, what do you expect? I take it you have never worked in a technology industry and had to deploy software/updates.
I couldn't even bring up the capture portion.
...it was my first time playing and learning the game. I wasted a ton of Pokeballs since the server went down after capture, too.
