Pumpkaboo, Gourgeist, and that Ice thing.

not 70, around that number. It was confirmed a while ago. We can all thank Mega Evolutions for that low number.

Which is why I am not a fan of Mega Evolutions, I don't count them as new Pokémon or new evolution.

Really disappointed.

Another reason I think Megas are the dumbest ideas to have been introduced to Pokemon.

I would have been fine with Mega Evolutions if they didn't count towards the new Pokémon count and we had past gen Pokémon getting new traditional evolutions.

Now unless there's more Pokémon post game, then Game Freak messed up.

Aren't the robust and supposedly fantastic online features going to make up for any lack of post game stuff in single player anyway?

I'm not upset about the low pokemon count. I love the fact that they're breathing new life into older gens and giving people reason to include them in their teams. I don't see the value on just adding more pokemon every gen when there's this many already.

I mean we still have to get through to the 8th badge right? Then there's I'm sure some form of Victory road where there will undoubtedly be new pokemon right? And then there's the elite four themselves, they always have unique pokemon in there parties right? There's still some more to go! Right??

A majority are lazy designs, a few look cool, and a lot just ruin the aesthetics of some of our favorite pokemon.

This is all a play of marketing for nostalgia reasons to excite and perhaps bring back some old players, as well as a bit of fan service for customers who never left.

If they decided to add some regular evos to old pokemon, I probably wouldn't have minded as much. But what we got was a silly name and silly looking pokemon in exchange for them working on creating all new creatures for us to love.

Why are people blaming Mega Pokemon for us getting less Pokemon? There's no evidence to support that whatsoever.
Well, they are spending time on Mega Evolutions that they could be using designing brand new Pokemon. That said, if we weren't getting Mega Evolutions we'd just be getting a ton of regular evolutions for old Pokemon instead.

So I've got a question which I haven't seen asked (if it has been, sorry): are ribbons back? Even if there aren't new ones, can we see the old ones on our pokemon?

The stats page doesn't seem to have a spot for them, but there's a good chance they're still in the data structure of the Pokemon. If RSEmake rolls around you'll probably be able to see the ones on whatever you've transferred over from Gen 3/4.

Common sense?

Mega pokemon show up; new species number goes down. You can't explain that!

Its basic logic, if they're going to design a bunch of pseudo-evolutions for older Pokemon, time and effort would have to be taken away from the new roster.

They gave us over 150 last gen so if they really wanted to they could have made more than 70 Pokemon + however many Mega Pokemon we end up getting. They simply chose not to make more when they obviously could have done more and there's no way to know whether they did it because of them counting the Mega Pokemon or them just not wanting more.

I will admit that the "If we didn't have Mega Pokemon they would just be evos of old Pokemon" argument is pretty decent though.

So Mega Gyarados confirmed to stay Water/Flying? Ah well, I'm still going to get it, ofc.
I wouldn't say confirmed. They've got that typing asterisked so it's clearly a supposition.

The guy who maintains this chart likes to assume typing when it remains unknown.
The guy who maintains the other chart that's been updated steadily keeps things ambiguous and doesn't presume.

Aw okay, thanks. I just had a couple of pokemon I've used since Emerald which have a lot of ribbons and would've been awesome to see here.

Now that Mega Gengar has been revealed, I'm more curious about it's movepool. Will it get a good Fairy type move? Might even be worth it to get one with Sludge Bomb ready on Black 2 in case it isn't a TM in Gen VI.

Also was there anything new said about Gen III remakes today or something?
