Wow.

American democracy may seriously be in jeopardy. Perhaps the candidates can start wearing suits that look like NASCAR driver suits with sponsor emblems all over them.

I had a good laugh listening to Hannity today (just in passing, honest!) and he had on Charlie Rangel's opponent who was crying poverty because he only had 400,000 to spend on his campaign. Which is true .. but just so shocking to hear.

House 218-217 Dems
Senate 53-47 Dems

I wish the congressional ethics mechanisms were not so toothless. Rangel should be out on his ass.

your predictions lead me to believe you are taking drugs. fess up-- which ones? seem to be good stuff.
Yeah, I'm a little more optimistic than most of you. But I've seen enough to decide that political analysts are full of shit.

Not gonna put numbers, but I say Dems will retain both houses with smaller majorities.

So we just gotta swing two. Alrighty.

Legitimate predictions -

No matter how the election turns out, the media will proclaim this as a "great night for the Republicans." This will be true of any scenario, whether they gain 60 seats in the House or 6.

House - 230 Dem, 205 GOP
Senate - 55 Dem (+2), 43 GOP

Dunno about that. If republican gains are average I really think we'll hear a lot about Michael Steel, missed opportunities, tea party taking things too far, etc. I'm sure it won't be hard to find republican mouth pieces to proclaim the night a victory, but it won't be long before we hear stories of a lot of anger. Corporations are spending BILLIONS to take back the house and senate. If they get neither, someone done goofed.

Pretty damning as far as the cash goes for campaign spending....caught a blurb about it late last night on TV. One wonders what the next shit move the SCOTUS will manage next alongside the rest....

Such infuriating and sad times!

I wish Meek backs out of the race and makes a deal with Crist. If he thinks he's gonna win this, he's fucked in the head. Maybe Crist has a fighting chance, but Meek, no way.

Incognito said:
that's not optimistic; that's some karl "the math" rove type stuff going on. :lol
Funny how losing only 26 seats is now "optimistic."

I'd wager most of these House races that are within 3-4 points are because of the enthusiasm gap. It's not that Democrats are less excited than usual, it's just that the Republicans are riding high because they think it's up to them to stop the evil marxist communist muslim president. Obama's going to rile up college kids and minorities and save the majorities.

It's all about turnout.

The enthusiasm gap will disappear as we get closer to November. The midterms truly start after Labor Day, and democrats hit the ground running at that point. I still think they're fucked, but I'd imagine polls will tighten in the coming weeks.

Jobs report tomorrow right? That could also be a factor.

For what it's worth, the enthusiasm gap has completely disappeared in Minnesota. Some would dismiss that as just MN being some crazy hippie liberal state but we also kept Tim Pawlenty in a GOOD year for Democrats (2006).

Yea, especially after that week ass performance in the debate. "If anyone wants to change social security they're going to have to come through me. I'm 6'3, a former state patrolman, and football player."

what the fuck are you talking about? Back out chump, we can't have Rubio.

I hope to god Bachman loses. Republicans are apparently spending lots of money/energy to shitcan Alan Grayson, I hope dems are spending equal amounts to shitcan her.

Yeah, don't count on it. The DNC won't give a penny to Tarryl Clark because they like having Bachmann as a "villain" whose name they can invoke whenever they want money. Additionally they aren't playing any offense this year because this year's bunch is from the Rahm Emanuel school of thought, that they should only devote resources to safe districts so they don't waste any money. Well, that hardly holds a majority, but they only care about getting 218 seats, anyway.

Bachmann's raised a ton of money but so has Clark, and polls have them pretty even. I'm sure if it wasn't for that fucking poison pill Independent candidate Bob Anderson she'd be winning (he's running to Clark's left, and ran in 08 too). Just know if she manages to pull an upset, you certainly won't have Tim Kaine to thank for it.

I heard he did the best out of all of them. Then again, that was on DailyKos.

The whole Crist-Meek-Rubio thing concerns me because on one hand, we shouldn't be throwing the only Democrat in the running under a bus, but on the other hand, I don't think Meek can win.

I think Meek should stay in the race if only to encourage blacks to turn out for Alex Sink. The governor's race is more important than the senate race because it affects redistricting, which affects house races - and Florida is gerrymandered to shit. Even with a Republican state legislature and a Democratic governor, neutral district lines would give us a net gain.

Damn, I had no idea I posted so much.

Glad not to be on that list. I survived poligaf and all I got was this stupid tag.

The ripple effects of the SCOTUS decision on campaign funding are just disgusting, everything that was predicted would happen is. This is only a primer to 2012 too. Soon they'll just outright go over the RNC and DNC and just farm their own politicians. No more need for a middle man.

I guess Sharron Angle is jealous now that Christine O'Donnell is getting all the crazy spotlight . . .

Angle: Muslim law taking hold in parts of US

LAS VEGAS – U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle told a crowd of supporters that the country needs to address a "militant terrorist situation" that has allowed Islamic religious law to take hold in some American cities.
Her comments came at a rally of tea party supporters in the Nevada resort town of Mesquite last week after the candidate was asked about Muslims angling to take over the country, and marked the latest of several controversial remarks by the Nevada Republican.
In a recording of the rally provided to The Associated Press by the Mesquite Local News, a man is heard asking Angle : "I keep hearing about Muslims wanting to take over the United States ... on a TV program just last night, I saw that they are taking over a city in Michigan and the residents of the city, they want them out. They want them out. So, I want to hear your thoughts about that."
Angle responds that "we're talking about a militant terrorist situation, which I believe it isn't a widespread thing, but it is enough that we need to address, and we have been addressing it."
"My thoughts are these, first of all, Dearborn, Michigan, and Frankford, Texas are on American soil, and under constitutional law. Not Sharia law. And I don't know how that happened in the United States," she said. "It seems to me there is something fundamentally wrong with allowing a foreign system of law to even take hold in any municipality or government situation in our United States.

She must read far-right news/blog sites and think they are actually real news.
