Hillary Clinton's lead in the Democratic presidential primary race has grown -- and if Vice President Joe Biden decides to stay out of the race, her numbers would rise even higher, a new CNN/ORC poll shows.

Clinton is backed by 42% of Democratic primary voters nationally, compared to 24% for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, 22% for Biden and 1% for former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley.

That's a marked improvement over an early September CNN/ORC poll that found Clinton leading Sanders, 37% to 27%, with Biden at 20%.

And Biden's support comes almost entirely from Clinton's camp. Without the vice president in the race, Clinton's numbers climb by 15 percentage points, while Sanders' increase by only 4 points -- giving Clinton a nearly 2-to-1 lead at 57% to 28%, with O'Malley moving up to 2%.
Wonder if there are any general election match-ups in this poll?

Hopefully O'malley drops far enough for him to not even qualify for the debate. Don't you need to poll at least 1% per DNC rules?

I'd like to see Hillary vs. Bernie 1-on-1

First rule of politics: nobody - and I don't care if you're R. A. Fisher or Nate Silver - nobody knows if a candidate is going up, down or fucking sideways, least of all statisticians. But they have to pretend they know.

I haven't voted for anything since I turned 18 4 years ago but after how I strongly I want to feel the bern, I will be voting this upcoming election. There is hope somewhere.

and what happens when Bernie inevitably loses the primary? Are you gonna vote for Hillary or are you going to stay home?

Also where were you in 2014 for the mid-terms? You haven't voted in 4 years? What's up with that?

But the internet is fully behind Sanders so Hillary's days at the top are numbered.

This sounds a lot like what the republicans say every 4 years or so.

It's going to be a Biden/Warren ticket.

Good middle ground between Hillary and Bernie

I wish. But I don't think Biden is prepared to run and I don't think he can convince his supporters that he is, if he continues to wait. I think the majority of the democratic base is more waiting for his definitive answer out of respect, before throwing their weight behind Hillary.

I feel like Biden would have a much easier time convincing supporters than convincing himself.

It seems like no matter how much bad press and criticism comes her way, Hilary Clinton just keeps on thriving.

The fact that she's still so competitive after the shitstorm of this summer's lousy media coverage has to be bothersome to the GOP.

..

And I'm skeptical on Biden getting in at this point. His time to get a competitive campaign organization together is running very short, very quickly.

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions

Hillary is the middle ground between Biden and Bernie.

Yeah, plus they blew their load early with barely anything to show for it.

I attribute this to the party "elites" deciding Hillary was their person, and follow-up decision to minimize how many debates they have to protect her from challengers. I may be tin foil hatting this, but its the only way my mind can rationalize the lack of debates.

People easily forget that the Hilary was only toppled due to Obamas amazing campaigning and speaking ability. Also he took a good percentage of the minority vote from Hilary which Bernie hasn't even come close to.

And for all the perceived baggage that Hilary has the term socialist is like pretty much a killer to anyone that would call themselves that no matter how ridiculous that is.

I don't agree that those were the only reasons she lost, but I most certainly agree those reasons are why the party has not been having debates.

Yeah... It was like a cute little moment of fantasy that America could have actually changed, just to realize that it's never going to happen. Oh well... Let me switch back to the Green Party.
Too bad about those 600 or so Florida voters who thought just like you

Aside from his ability to use executive orders, it will take more then that to have any serious change.

Why are minorities so against Sanders, anyway? Seems like his policies would help them more than anybody else.

Lack of knowledge. It's a bridge that can be crossed, but it will be challenge.
Being an old white guy does not help. His economic polices would benefit minorities, and his recent push to end private prisons would help too.

His stances on drug policy would probably be the single biggest improvement for the black community. http://feelthebern.org/bernie-sanders-on-drug-policy/

However, most of this is moot if he can't build a large enough consensus to pass bills.

If it stays a civil campaign between the two of them, I can see Hillary doing something useful with Bernie to get his crowd behind her even more so in 2020. She ain't leaving the White House until she legally has to.

She should make him the VP

I honestly doubt it. There's a leading assumption in the political community that Sanders is un-electable on the national stage. The 'Socialist' thing will just never sit right with a lot of people.

She should get him in the cabinet, though. He's got the right ideals, he just needs structure to make them work in the US political system. Sanders writing policy with the backing of a Clinton administration is a clearer path to reform than Sanders taking the seat, and being outcast by both parties in Congress.

Well, white progressivism tends to gloss over racial issues, or talk about them as a "oh yeah and also" aspect of economic justice.

For Bernie, I think it's simply that Vermont is very, very, very, very white while Hillary has made greater ties with minority communities in her career. Also, the "s" word might be a turn off!

Shill?

If the bad press were about anything substantial, I think it would be more impressive.

The press would *love* a Clinton takedown but I really believe the closets have all been gone through and nothing there we didn't know about.
