I'm sure there were many who played other fighters and didn't like having to remember a different launcher for each character in MvC2, and it was a key mechanic. I know I didn't. It kept me from exploring a lot of characters. I was never a hardcore player, and just played it casually for fun, but I think there was a valid reason for moving to a unified command despite the trade-offs, and it wasn't just pandering to those who didn't play fighters at all. I think there are plenty who played MvC1 and 2 and like the change, because it let them worry about other stuff after you pop someone in the air.
I understand the mentality even though I didn't mind it in MvC2. I love SFV because I don't have to worry about 1 frame links, but the amount of stuff that you can do in there combo wise is limited compared to SF4. I don't even like looking at everything through this extreme casual vs. hardcore lens because that's not reality.
Maybe I'm weirder than most people here, but I can do trials in a fighting game just for fun because I enjoy it, and get my ass kicked online and not think too much of it.
