I don't think anyone else has mentioned this, so I will.

I think this game is running on the RE Engine, the engine RE7 is using. Capcom got a BIG studio for photogrammetry for RE7 and future projects. This game is rumored to be focused on the movie universe, and one of the sources said the actors were being used for the models. The RE Engine was made to work well with their photogrammetry studio and optimization for different platforms and performance with high quality graphics.

Maybe one of the reasons for the focus on the Marvel film universe and the lack of X-Men characters is because Capcom is literally scanning the original actors in their recently formed studio to make the models and animate them, the studio was made to make these processes a lot easier with much higher quality turn-out. And if that's the case, a movie-focus would make sense, and on-top of this it'd be a hassle to get the X-Men cast for this, which might explain why they're sitting out on it due to legal stuff ,royalties, etc to use their likeness as the X-Men characters.

I'm placing my bets on this.

Actually that's genius. They mentioned that the new tech let them get photo real likeness with a lot less work.

So likeness which we thought would take forever actually wouldn't

Wouldn't the Capcom characters stick out like a sore thumb then?

I could see it. Depending on how funding and such as well as how the MCU contracts are put out. A game with the actual MCU likenesses would be a big sell for casuals especially with a story focus. Even if some of the voices had to be sound-a-likes.

Wouldn't the Capcom characters stick out like a sore thumb then?

I would think that even with the scanning, you could still configure a certain style for the graphics and such.
So it would be about setting up a certain direction, and then it could probably fit.

I would definitely expect MCU characters being "brightest" they have ever been in terms of color.

Good post. I was thinking it might be the RE Engine, but because there's something about that tech that makes me think it's the actual successor to MT Framework as opposed to whatever Panta Rhei was going to be. Your points here are great though.

I was also thinking that Capcom may opt for the RE Engine since it seems like it'll be the true successor to MT Framework, but I never thought of Capcom using their photogrammetry studio to get the likenesses of the MCU-Film actors.

Overall, nice theory. I'm curious to see if it pans out come tomorrow. Though as others have mentioned, the Capcom characters (& the Marvel characters who have yet to be introduced in the MCU) may stick out like a sore thumb.

The good thing about it also is they could use the tech to make a nice looking realistic texture, that they could then stylize a bit to fit into the art style the game chooses to use.

It's super smart

At the moment it'd be impossible to do it all through photogrammetry, that's also true of their own projects and RE7. Capcom talked a lot about their process on RE7 a few months ago, it works best to work with 'actors' as they said, people who can look the part and 'act' the part. But some things that couldn't be modeled would be done by hand, and modifications to the scanned models could be applied easily through their system. Their reports say it helped with the 3D modelling and animation aspect of games to help increase the speed of it by 60-70% faster, and with very high quality output.

Of course, this is just a theory, but I was thinking about it. We already know RE7 isn't the only Capcom game that's going to use the RE Engine and the studio they bought for it, and since this is film universe focus and the source claim the actors are being used for the models, they didn't say how directly but if they were scanning them this would make a lot of sense in my opinion.

Exactly what I'm thinking. How are you going to have characters like Joe or Ammy? The only solution would be to have a "realistic" Capcom roster consisting of SF and Resident Evil with the likes of Dante and Morrigan maybe thrown in there. Would be very boring IMO. Hopefully I'm wrong though and they can make it work.

Maybe they can make it work, but even if they do, personally speaking, I don't want them to go with the movie versions of the characters. Stick the comic book please. It's just an inflation of the cost of the game. And for the engine, I feel it's going to be UE4, though I want it to be MT Framework if it can be used on the current gen consoles.

Maybe the other game Capcom was talking about using the RE engine is DMC5

Thanks guys.

Would've made more but it's really hard to get away from XV and we'll know about this in less than 24 hours anyway. Hopefully they'll announce it at PSX and it'll be as glorious as we all want it to be*

*
Which means featuring Punisher and DMC5 designs for Dante and Vergil xD

Yeah they have been really good. Can't wait to see the others that will lead to launch

It would fit with the rumors that the game has been in dev for a decent little bit and only just now before PSX managed to leak (Well a little bit earlier than that but still). DMC5 is a heavy rumor, so getting the actor to do mocap for both wouldn't even be that much of a stretch. Saves a trip and money.

So is it safe to say that all of the Ultimate additions, at least on the Capcom side, are nixed except for maybe Phoenix and Vergil? No way Firebrand and Nemesis are in this if it's a smaller roster.

I'd say any new character is fucked unless they got a movie comin'

I know about a pretty obscure character on the Capcom side coming back -- someone who would seem really out of place in a "smaller roster." I'm not saying we're getting 50+ characters, but I'd be shocked to see this specific character in a roster of 24.

Ah yes the Capcom 1943 Airplane

Frank has a good shot of making it back.
Ah yeah, forgot there was a new Dead Rising

Wolverine!

That's good news! I was never a big fan playing with or against her but at least she adds some nice visual variety to the cast. It's nice to have some hope anyway.

Assuming you're not talking about Arthur who I've already given up on.

With respect to my source (and Capcom), I'm not going to spill any specific details. I just wanted to mention that because of the 24 character rumor, which seems unlikely in light of what I was told.

I'd have to agree on Phoenix Wright & Vergil having the best chances of returning of the UMvC3 Capcom additions.

While respecting the source, do you know anything about this obscure returning character ala are the moves similar, etc without revealing anything major

He said a veteran that he was surprised was picked in MvC3.

Haggar wasn't a veteran. Strider wasn't an obscure pick. He was one of the most requested.

Arthur's back yo

EDIT: Could be Felicia too though

No, just that they're in the game.

Veteran of MvC3, not necessarily MvC2.

But seriously, guys, I'm not saying anything else.
