PoP2 IGN interview. Look and read how UBI butchered this franchise

I'll wait till I play before I pass judgement. I doubt most of the haters played the 1st one, nor will they play the 2nd.

I've finished Sands of Time myself. I actually don't dislike the PoP franchise. But I do not agree with the direction this series is heading, even though this direction towards action means I'll probably like the game more.

Now that I've completed the game, I have some questions about the design and the thought process behind certain game elements.
:lol

Now THAT'S the way to start off an interview. "Yeah, I beat the game, and WTF were you thinking?!"

Is Jordan even working on the sequel?
I've been wondering that myself. He hasn't even made a peep about the game... I think I vaguely remember an interview with him that said he was going to focus on writing the script for the upcoming POP movie (provided it gets off the ground).

"1) Crappy soundtrack"

So far I find it much better than SoT's soundtrack.

"2) Not nearly as much platforming"

That's sad. The best thing about SoT was the platforming.

"3) Backtracking"

The environments is supposed to be totally different since it all takes place in two different times. So I can't comment on that one right now.

"4) Cliffhanger ending"

Now this is a thing that makes me angry... where is this industri heading? I want decent endings dammit!

I'm getting a Legacy of Kain vibe from these second game writeups and that weird Spike TV preview show now....

They had to change it into another type of game because the sands of time sold about 2 copies.

I'm not sure they changed in the right direction though, we will have to wait for sales numbers.

I met him in a bar and asked him about this. He has *nothing* to do with POP2. He's actually spending all his current time writing the film for Bruckheimer and playing with his kids.

Lovely guy actually. I really don't like POP2. Why turn a platformer into a hack and slash? (much as I love both genres)

This is from Mr. B....

Maybe the Prince does die...but planted a seed before he died?

I'm not saying that's what happens.....but don't look into that statement too much.

Also guys, Prince of Persia Sands of Time's ending was a cliff hanger in a sense aswell... So this could be something like that, just a guess... Also about the platforming/puzzles part, I wish they were more... But what can we do to please the casual gamers out there.

I can agree with you guys on the soundtrack... Not a heavy metal fan at all. Backtracking, POP 2 (original had some) so this will game will have some because they essentially copying POP 2 Orignal in some ways.

I played the first and really liked it. The platforming was great so long as you skipped those stupid "premonition" movies and figured it out yourself. The combat was tolerable IMO, what killed it was the constant stream of enemies that never seemed to end in some areas, the combat in that game is definately something that should be experienced in small quantities, not the massive mellees they made you endure.

What made the game for me was the atmosphere, art design, and sensibility of the game though. Definite ICO flashbacks with the atmosphere which was great.

With the sequel having more combat, less platforming, and this horrid angst-ridden, Tidus-as-a-bad-ass design change and atmosphere I'm not sure what I'm supposed to like about this game. I have been unable to download an uncorrupted version of the demo, so obviously none of this is based on having any play experience of the actual game, but the fact that the atmosphere and mood of the first game were such a big part of the experience for me just makes me cringe at the sight of the screenshots for the sequel.

As for the cliff-hanger ending, if Squaresoft were making Final Fantasy VII today, the game would end just before Sephiroth's sword impaled Aerith and a title card would come up that says "To Be Continued . . . buy Final Fantasy VII-2 at a store near you in two years!!"

If this interview is truthful, they started working on warrior within before they knew about sales. Smells like preemptive damage control to stop the haters though.

"we started developing Warrior Within before the Sands of Time was finished. A small group of designers and the art director sat down together and pretty much started to think about what kind of theme they wanted to make for the sequel. They came to me and said, "Hey, we want to explore this kind of general theme." And they were talking about a much darker look. It's a development team desire, really. Then, when they came to me, I was like, you know, that kind of fits the overall strategic objective of Warrior Within -- expand the brand, expand the franchise."

Actually, one of the UBI reps posts at the IGN boards and posted in that thread I listed. He mentioned how they change was also made due to fan input. This is the work of the fans. They wanted this! :D

Actually he is probably a geeky 21 year old with a evanescense poster on his wall.
Nope, I saw a video interview way long ago, it might still be up on gametrailers. Aside from the most hilarious translation (they actually used the 'words' strangulate and agressivity) the guy was big beefy and the stupid tatoo on the Prince's arm in PoP2 is the same as the tatoo on the art director's arm. The video kept on zooming in on the tattoo and I cringed everytime it did.
