Marketing: DOOM franchise and PlayStation

DOOM has always been on everything, so I never really associated it with anything to be honest. If anything, PC for obvious reasons.

Funny to see that MS saving Sony, Sony sort of gave up with releasing games in acceptable intervals and now 3rd party (ink. MS is carrying PlayStation). MS is happy with sales, Sony is happy with sales …everyone wins.
Meanwhile, Sony is carrying the console-market.

While DOOM Dark Ages will be on Game Pass, it's wild seeing the competition be advertised also on the "rival console" yet here we are.

*edit* For clarity, what I meant is it's weird this game isn't more advertised on PC or Xbox than it has been on PS.

This is like Target advertising Great Value or something.

Microsoft bought these studios and they need to sell the games they produce.

Their consoles will never produce the ROI they want so they had to "diversify."

If MS was smart they'd include a basic Gamepass tier for free if you buy their console but they've been so short sighted this will never happen.

Except one player will have to carry all the risk of developing, marketing and selling these games, while the other guy is collecting his cheques with minimal cost.

Still awaiting for the best versions of Doom (the PSX versions with Aubrey Hodges soundtracks and improved lighting/sound effects) to come to these Doom remasters...

What you people don't understand in this being weird?
It's one thing that it's multiplatform, but it's really strange that a Microsoft owned IP is advertised with a video specifically addressing Playstation players. We have never seen anything like this and I don't understand how could this happen. I would be interested in the background story for this.

Like I said before, there is a reason why third parties prefer Playstation, they actually do the effort to earn their 30% of share.

Bethesda never seemed like fans of not being able to put their stuff on playstation.

I mean we saw Pete hines being vocal about it througj the emails that came from the abk acquisition saga.

Even Indiana Jones reveal and marketing for ps reeked of "we are doing this our own way" and phil probably not really having much input.

As a third party, MS knows perfectly well that the money is in the PS5, so it's only natural that they put more effort into promoting it for Sony's console than for their own.

Not really like Target advertising Great Value, because Great Value isn't in Target stores. It's more like Target advertising Borden milk even though they also sell their own Good & Gather brand. Not weird either, at the end of the day these companies like making money.

Sometimes I forget Microsoft is a platform holder. That perception was killed by early last year.

Nadalla was the adult in the room and now punished child Phil is on his way out and we will get Sarah Bond running MGS and what is left of Xbox.
You really think this? Sarah Bond has barely made an appearance anywhere or a post on X since last year. Used to be active with the gaming community but now she's just retweeting stuff. If anyone is going out it's her. Willingly I'd say, never felt genuine as a gamer to me, her heart is somewhere else. Meanwhile Phil is doing interviews and appearances and posts on X like his role never changed, he'll retire eventually but I can't see him being pushed out.

All it does is highlight the fact that you only need a Playstation to play Xbox games as well.

MS might as well just pull the plug on hardware.

It's what they are doing this gen. They've given up. Or should we say pulled the plug.

A price hike like that in the US is literally saying stop buying we are winding down production...

Xbox (or MS) is basically like Sega. They had/have consoles and now they release their games everywhere else, too.

That profile pic of jm89 jm89 describes perfectly how I look at Xbox ever since they introduced gamepass and bought nearly every 3rd party publisher.

Well yeah. That's pretty much what me and others said was going to happen, for the past few years or so...
