Portable console screenshot thread (3DS/Vita) - Rules in OP

Man, fuck those missions where you have to tag the other gangs.

That seems to be a trend with a few systems with launch games looking better than anything that comes later
Well, it looks pretty good but you can tell it's an early game, the geometry is relatively simple and it's probably a souped-up psp game. But still, by being native res it holds up really well 4 years later, while stuff like Everybody's Golf or Gravity Rush looks pretty jarring if you play it now and you're used to the much better looking recent games.

I really enjoyed Shinobido 2 (and honestly, wish we got a few more games like it on Vita in the west). I can see what you mean about it being native res, but I always thought it wasn't really a looker. Things like trees; ground textures; animations etc. were all very PS2-era.
Yeah, it looks pretty nice for a launch game but it's not one of the best looking games overall.

Stealth games are a rare breed nowadays and the Tenchu-like genre is completely dead so there's not much you can do. Unless I'm mistaken this was the last game of this genre on any console. The closest thing on the Vita might be something like Ukiyo no Roushi but, yeah, fuck.

That's more what I was getting at. I mean, stealth games like this I've given up on altogether. They can't really be made AAA and indies aren't particularly interested, so I'm not expecting anything like that (though I'd love another that gives you small sandbox levels and a full toolkit so you can go out and do whatever the hell you want like Shinobido 2 does).

But no, I was meaning more the sort of middle-of-the-road janky Japanese action game. It's hard to describe, but I feel stuff like this - Akiba's Trip - EDF - and yeah, Ukiyo no Roushi fill the gap pretty well. The kind of thing where the devs have great ideas but clearly don't have the budget to reach them, but you're still left with a really fun base game.

Still incredibly gutted about Ukiyo. It's been 12 months now and no word (and Grand Kingdom has been picked up, so I think it's unlikely it's coming at this point) so I think I'll import in the coming months.

I'd sacrifice Grand Kingdom any day for Ukiyo.

Ditto. I made as much fuss as I reasonably could on here and NISA's forums about it, but yeah, seems the window has passed now.

I can kinda understand. It's a two-game project (with the PS3 version) which is twice the translation effort and I bet they couldn't get people to double dip. Both platforms on the decline at the time too.

Maybe Vic Ireland will pick it up in a few years.

Ah yes, I was amused when I saw that for the first time too.

Actually? I adored WRC4 on Vita but held off on this because seems like every review (like the 2 I could find) said it was worse.

Haha, definitely stick with 4. WRC 5 is a total mess. It was handled by a different developer and it honestly feels like they shipped a beta version or something. Lots of stuff advertised on the back of the box (like night racing) just isn't in the Vita version at all. It's fun to mess around with to see all the glitches and shit (there are entire tracks where you can clip through the scenery and keep driving until you fall into an endless void), but that's it.

Shame, because yeah, WRC 4 on Vita was a fantastic port.
