I know other people here must make music in their spare time for fun too. I'm interested in hearing others' tunes.

I'll start with some that I've made.

I like your stuff dude :D I actually had a guy demo Ableton Live for me in a music store/warehouse in the UK, and he demonstrated the kind of recording/cut-ups you can do as well as live manipulation / synth etc. There was even a demo NiN track included. All of that sounded like it might produce this kind of effect. What are you using to put it together?

I like it too.
One or two of them reminded me a little of Thomas Newman a little (Six Feet Under, Road to Perdition etc). All of them too reminded me of videogames. RPGs specifically. Was that the intention? I don't know if names like Overworld and Town helped suggest such an idea to me...

A remix I did a couple years ago: http://home.cogeco.ca/~mdemarco/True, True.mp3

An original I tracked with a couple of friends: http://home.cogeco.ca/~mdemarco/Burning Down the Castle.mp3

Both from 2003, I've been slacking off on the music front as of late but I want to get back into at some point.

I always wonder how people find out that things can fit together in remixes and stuff. I never would have imagined yours...
It's so different from Burning Down the Castle demo too. Which is nice btw. I love the melody, tempo, bass, muted notes etc. There are worse bands playing nightly on the streets of Liverpool anyway.

I love the town song silenttwn... the piano is awesome. Silentmartian, that remix is so going on my party mix, haha. Awesome.

To make those two songs I used Reason to make some combinators and then write the music. Then I used Buzzmachines to add some various things here and there. Mainly reason though.

Vitar: The Tides of Yesterday EP

Slumber City
We're Losing Our Passion

The next song is a big work in progress. It's not final by any means, there are still some rough spots. Hotarubi inspired it. =)
No Reason to Stay is a Good Reason to Go

My music projects:

exdeath
satori_2600

Both are electronic/experimental/noise/industrial. Most people will probably hate it, but people who are into that kind of music may think it's okay. The latter project has some vocals (not by me though) and uses a lot of samples of old videogames.

Any suggestions for someone who is just starting out in terms of what program to use?

I can use GarageBand fairly well and have experience with Pro Tools and Reason, but I no longer have a Mac availible to me (so no more GarageBand) and I can't afford to buy PT/Reason and PT is pretty specific in terms of hardware requirements (MBoxes and certain Sound Cards and shit)

Basically, I'd like to work on some IDM/Electro/Folktronica stuff, but with something that's easy to use like GarageBand, only for PC. I'm obviously not going to be making the next BoC album anytime soon, but I've got some pretty good melodies in my mind I'd like to put some beats to and see what turns out.

Please don't suggest Cubase...God, I hate that program.

In summary...What's the best music editor for the PC?

Some good stuff here.

What tools do most of you guys use? I'm thinking about getting something better than Reason to play with.

This thread needs more feedback.

The wonderland song is good. During the parts with the really loud guitar, though, it seems like the sound might be going tinto the red or somethin'.

Thanks, and yes. The original recording is pristine, but I fucked it up when I rearranged the MP3, so the choruses are a little into the red. I don't have the source material here, so I can't redo it at the moment. Doesn't sound horrible on my setup though.

Damn those tracks are awesome, especially the Satan one. When I was listening to it I kept imagining the cat in Eric P's avatar playing and mixing the stuff in this thread. If I needed a soundtrack for a movie or game, I'd totally have you and Eric do it, your stuff is great and so was this whole thread really. I never knew we had so many talented musicians on this board. :)

nrXic - untitled

A low quality clip of my next release...I don't know when I'll release it since it's on one of my computers 850km from here :P

Playing around recently...will post some clips of them, maybe. :P

did anyone happen to check out either of the tracks that I posted? I need some f33db4ck.

Yeah I thought they were great. I can't really give feedback because to me they sounded as they should. I wouldn't change a thing.

Same with kitchenmotor's stuff.

Both aren't really my cup of tea, but I appreciate both. kitchenmotors, I really like the We're losing our Passion, but I think the hard kickdrum sticks out too much. The thing is, I'm no expert in that genre so who am I to give that kind of criticism? :P

Robot cats singing 2nd attempt

I posted a clip of a track I was working on before...the robot cats singing one and I tried it on another song I was making, it sounded decent and there is the clip. The original song I was making was more sombre and stuff...maybe this could be the happy breakdown?

Dopey, as always I love your tracks. Keep it up and don't stop!
