Power Rangers movie Putty toy revealed

Yep, doubling down on them taking the whole idea of of Finster making monsters out of clay to a literal extreme. So Goldar will just be a putty made out of a shinier substance.

Damn.

I'm not going to defend the original Putty design because they're just dudes in half-ass suits, but this is barely a design.

And is that one leg detachable? Why? LOL

I'm betting Finster is some stupid super 3D printer or something called F.I.N.S.T.E.R.

The Zord toys come with mini Ranger figures and the Pterodactyl Zord also comes with a mini Putty. Size-wise, the mini Putty is larger than the mini Rangers. So I wonder if that's how it'll be in the movie too. That would be interesting.

Okay I know some people think this movie is insulting and "KILLING MY CHILDHOOD" but it's not going the Jem route.
If it was, the fans would hate this with a passion. Right now they're optimistic. The Jem fans hated the Jem movie from the trailers.

Oh god they're really doing the shoulder pauldrons? Those look awful.

Lord Zedd is a legit god-tier villain design

He really is. In a show full of people wearing goofy ass costumes he is the one that looks like he's straight out of a horror film. Hes practically turned inside out. Exposed brain and musculature and his bones made of metal with tubing for a circulatory system.

I would say the PR fandom is on the fence with this film right now. For many, it does hit a more obviously darker and 'mature' tone that many have wanted out of the franchise for decades (see also: The reaction to Power/Rangers), but the aesthetic design of the movie, has gotten a much more wary glance overall. I think the stuff people have most positively reacted to in that regard are Rita (particularly after the idea that she's the former green ranger began to massively circulate, and so her costume made sense), the Ranger costumes, and now, the putties. The zord designs, Alpha, and Goldar meanwhile lie at the other end, mostly confusing those who have seen them.

You're right in the sense that unlike Jem, this will very clearly be a Power Rangers movie in at least basic premise and concepts, whatever the result on tone and precise narrative. The big question is whether or not what efforts it's also quite clearly made to distance itself from the source material will be for the better (at the very least, we probably won't have Alpha cuddling a teddy bear), or if they will undermine the work as an adaptation and representation of that material. Tl;dr we're not sure if this is gonna end up more like a current Marvel movie, or a current DC movie.

...Actually, while this is almost certainly basing itself off how Finster made his monsters, I actually wonder if Rita will actually have any proper minions. Not counting Goldar until we see evidence that he's more than an in universe putty repaint, we've not really had any indication of her actually having the likes of Finster, or any of the other monsters she kept around her moon palace (one being Babboo, I think?). Which is... interesting to think on when one remembers that half of what makes the villains of this franchise is their interactions with subordinates.

These actually look pretty good. Reminder: movie drops in two months and we still don't have a trailer showing everything in action.

Don't want to spoil the last 15 minutes of the movie, since that'll probably be the point where the Rangers finally morph.

Fair points. I don't mind the Zords and Megazord, but I don't like Alpha. I'm hoping he looks better in motion (come on trailer).
From what I remember about the fan film, the fans hated it but the general public loved it. Which now that I think about it, it's kind of weird how everyone loved that but are hard on this for also having a dark tone. Is it because that went harder with graphic violence, nudity, and drugs?

I know director said "mature but still playful" so we'll see what happens. Could have gotten a more experienced director though...

Squatt and Baboo didn't really do anything. They sometimes made their own monsters or helped in certain plans but overall they were useless. So I'm not surprised they were cut.
While Finster would have been nice, this does make Rita look like an even greater threat.

First leak that doesn't look completely over designed. I still want to see the film because nostalgia but have not been digging the suit photos and zord/Alpha 5 leaks. Just hoping it all looks a little less terrible in context and motion.

I suspect there is an element of 'been there, done that' for dark Power Rangers with some fans (even with Power/Rangers having been a fan film), while with others, the fan film actually showcased what Power Rangers shouldn't be - it realised what a lot of fans had wanted and left them also realising just how bitter it can actually taste. So this film leaning in towards that sort of tone, particularly in an age where Disney has pretty much taken the throne of Hollywood through mastery of all ages filmmaking, can rather feel like the wrong approach. I will admit that for me personally that is a huge part of it, however much the conventional wisdom is that a film should be judged on its own merits.

Which is part of of why I'm left wondering about it. Yeah, it's pretty easy to see why they would omit what were always pretty superfluous characters. But with Goldar looking to be molten sludge that really only leaves the likes of Scorpina and Finster - both of which seem increasingly unlikely - for Rita to have anyone to talk to when not confronting the rangers. Maybe that'll be deliberate, and have Rita come across as an even more alien and menacing threat, but it's another uncertainty on an already uncertain project.

Yep, that's a putty.
A little larger and bulkier than before, but that's for the best.

That's all there is to it, really. It would be nice to get another trailer so that there would be something more to talk about than toys of poor quality. That can't be making the first impression that they desire, right?

Why are all the toys shown so shitty looking? And I don't just mean the designs, I mean like they are pretty much just one colour with next to no articulation. My Power Ranger toys from when I was a kid looked a million times better. More colour, more movement in the joints and just more like toys. These all seem like cheap happy meal toys or something just a bit bigger.

Yeah, these look like some real low budget bullshit. Talking about all of the movie stuff in general, not just these mini figures.

I'm still worried they'll butcher Lord Zedd if he shows up in this movie at all

Is that this movie's red ranger?

The movie looks pretty good from the trailers but I'm really not liking the aesthetics of the movie, everything shown so far has been pretty ugly and this is no exception.

Bandai are shit
Plus stupid kids

I hope this movie does well, not only because I think it can be decent, but also because I wanna see da gawd Zedd along with Rita Repulsa. Tommy can go sit in a corner and cry for all I care.

Looking back, Tommy's okay. Overrated but okay.

It's Jason David Frank himself that can go sit and cry.

theres only so much paint you can expect from a puddy :P

This seems more like a 'basic' figure? I mean the other movie figures seem to have your standard ball joints

You know, why don't they make these anymore?
Especially when you have to cover two years of toys now because Nickelodoen is run by morons.
Surely you could get sculpts of the actors faces. I imagine the Dino Charge Blue Ranger's actor would adore having one of him.
