KONAMI ANNOUNCES U.S. RELEASE DATE AND NEW GAME DETAILS FOR THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED STEALTH ACTION GAME - METAL GEAR SOLID®3: SNAKE EATER™

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – October 15, 2004 Konami Digital Entertainment - America, a division of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., today announced that Metal Gear Solid® 3: Snake Eater™ (MGS3) will be released exclusively for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system nationwide on Wednesday, November 17, 2004. Directed and produced by Hideo Kojima, the legendary developer and creative force behind one of the best-selling video game series of all time, MGS3 delivers the definitive stealth action experience with unique gameplay elements, extraordinary depth, a captivating storyline and a mind-blowing presentation.
Recently shown at Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2004, Konami revealed an astonishing new game trailer which gave audiences a sneak peek into the latest details of MGS3. The trailer showcases the game’s challenging and eccentric bosses and numerous foreboding natural environments which the main character, Snake, will encounter on his one-man mission to save the world from the brink of nuclear annihilation. Recognizing the game’s unparalleled gameplay, deep storyline and high production values, 1up.com – a Ziff Davis media outlet dedicated to gaming news – awarded MGS3 with “Best of Show,” “Best Adventure Game” and “Best PlayStation 2 Game” at TGS.

Also at TGS, Konami announced the winners of the Camouflage Campaign, which gave fans of the series the opportunity to submit their own camouflage designs for inclusion in the game and win a place in video game history. MGS3’s new, in-depth “camouflage index” is an integral part of playing through the game. Gamers will be able to use face paint and camouflage uniforms to blend into their environment, giving them the ability to avoid enemy detection and infiltrate dangerous enemy territories. After all the submissions were reviewed by Hideo Kojima and his award-winning design team, they chose four unique and potentially helpful patterns, entitled Terrence (Animals) – France, Lucky Boy (Fly) – Japan, Suna-nami Wrap (Mummy) – England and Banana Man (Banana) – Japan.

About the Metal Gear Series of games and franchise information
The Metal Gear® franchise is in its 17th year with the first Metal Gear® release debuting in Japan in 1987. Knowing Best Buy, Thursday.

Knowing Best Buy, whenever the hell they feel like it. I remember first seeing Viewtiful Joe there on the Sunday after its official release, and I remember seeing SMB3 the Sunday before its official release (think it was the same day).

November NPD will be fun. Personally, I don't think that MGS has the same appeal that it used to. Put it right next to RE4.

I'm on record expecting that Snake Eater will take a merciless hammering. Too bad, because so far it looks like a big improvement.

Improved, yes. Hopelessly outdated and worthy of a merciless hammering, yes.

Hammering, but from who?

Everything. San Andreas is the main one, but Halo as well, and just the general overwhelming crush of October/November releases. MGS3 is not the end-all be-all of the PS2 market the way MGS2 was in 2001.

I think the PS2's userbase is big enough to handle big games like that. GTA and MGS both have their installed userbases so I doubt either of them will have any real trouble selling to them.

Quite possibly. But other than GTA:SA and Halo 2, I don't think there are games in november that are anticipated more than MGS3. I thought you meant reviewers will hammer it, or people who play it, which I hope won't happen. As far as the sales go, I'm not really that concerned. It probably won't sell as much as MGS2 (I think many people bought MGS2 'by mistake'), but as long as it sells enough that they can keep the franchize alive and at the present level of production quality, I'm happy.

Why is everything coming out in November? Why can't some stuff come out in December FFS? What is coming out in December?

why do you have to buy everything the second it comes out? You want it in December, buy it in December. Shit ain't going anywhere.

And what about Europe? March 2005? :cry!

Im seeing release dates of December 27 (very odd), and March 2005 (%uck)

Worldwide release should be the way.. Dodging spoilers for months is a hard thing to do.

Actually, I meant the exact opposite -- so far it looks like it may get very good marks.

It'll do well, i doubt it'll reach its potential though. I love the MGS series, but like Metroid Prime 2, i havent been hyped for this.

Hope it sells at least as well as MGS2

So, you're saying there's a better gameplay/story balance this time around?

Another hint that its Solid Snake. In the first TGS trailer there was a line that went "How do you like your snake?" "Rare or well done?" "We recommend 'Solid'".

What about the name Jack, the Boss, the timeline?

I sure hope the whole VR recreation theory is false, cause the last thing I want is Solid Snake strapped into a VR unit, searching for clues about The Patriots, Big Boss or Ocelot.
