Rentrak Announces Microsoft Xbox as First Customer for New Video Game Industry Business Intelligence Service

Rentrak's Home Video Essentials Offers Video Game Industry Instant Access to Comprehensive Industry Data by Platform, Publisher and Title

A note from Paul Rosenbaum, Chairman and CEO of Rentrak Corporation:

I'm very excited to share with you today's announcement that the Microsoft Xbox division has become the first major customer for our video game business intelligence supplied by our Home Video Essentials' Industry Data Service.

This relationship is very significant for Rentrak, not only because the Xbox division represents our first revenue-generating customer for our game data, but also because Microsoft, an innovative platform manufacturer and game publisher, validates the importance of our service which provides timely and accurate measurements on the video game rental market.

Before Xbox, the video game rental market was dominated by three major platforms -- Sony's PlayStation and PlayStation2, and Nintendo 64. On November 15, 2001, Microsoft entered the fray by launching Xbox with a hard disc drive, cutting-edge graphics, and ethernet capability. Within the span of 12 months, Xbox was able to earn more than an 11% share of the market based on game rental revenue, and now owns more than 26% to-date

We can identify with their achievements as we venture into aggregating and measuring new channels of media consumption through Rentrak's suite of Entertainment Essentials? products.

We appreciate your continuing interest in Rentrak.
