Pre-E3 GAF Roundup Super Thread

My parents just gave the OKAY to go to e3

so who wants to let me stay with them again? (this is serious) I promise i wont make fun of your favorite game.

OK, serious question...I am the webmaster of GameCube Heaven. Some of you may have heard of the site. www.gamecubeheaven.tk. Anyway, I don't have a business license or anything like that, so I can't register to get in, or a media badge.

So, my serious question is...Is anyone here kind enough to include me and possibly another employee under their outlet to get us into E3? You don't need to pay for us, or let us stay with you or anything like that...Basically, just get us in under your officially licensed outlet.

It's a big favor, but I've heard of people doing it all the time. Can anyone help a man out?

22 actually.

im still in college, and since htey front the bill i have to ask them.

i did find a room though so :p you will see me walking around with a camera yelling obsceneties at people.

True, E3 is expensive as hell actually. Well for poor college kids but I've done a bit of freelancing and saved up money.

I'm still up in arms about whether I can go, hopefully either my good friend from high school can pull through and I can piggyback a ride with him and his parent's company or I'll pray that I'll have funds to support E3 and my moving problems not to mention the chance that my other friend might be too busy to let me stay with him for a few days.

So many problems and always at the last minute!

So who is going to E3?

Me

What part of town are ya staying at?

A Holiday Inn near the airport.

GAF Meetup again this year?

I would love it, but is not possible (online covering sucks)

Who is hitting up the press conferences?

I will go to Sony, MS, Nintendo and Nokia ones. I could miss the Sony one if we found problems at the airport given that we will have only few hours from arriving to go to Sony conference, so we will arrive with the suitcase and all (thanks both MS and Sony for your lame "me first").

By the way, I have missed the online pre-registering. I really need to know how is the experience of registering on-site. I would be very thankful for it (overall I need to know how much time I need).

Gaijin: If you need someone to cover the Sony press conference for your site I would be happy to. Just RSVP me for your company. I'm actually getting in to LA the Saturday before the show so it would be no problem.

sigh

*breaks self-imposed month long posting ban*

So who is going to E3?

Me. Though I might not. Been forever. Depends on whether I can get wifey across on expenses. That being the case, I'll be there.

What part of town are ya staying at?

Somewhere nice in Hollywood. H&H/Hyatt/Standard HW/Mondrian. Perhaps a few days in Santa Monica after the show all going to plan as above.

GAF Meetup again this year?

I think I would simply have to come to that to check you guys out. And this was my core reason for posting. You undersell yourselves. Remember: Every games company in the world will be spanking vast amounts of gold on promotional activities. Bottom line: I'm not coming to sit in some grotty cheap motel room with a bunch of GAF members. I do think it would be funny to get a PR to pay for a meet-up. Somewhere nice and expensive with food and booze and whatever thrown in. There's fucking no point in going to E3 and not doing this. I am aware of several PR staff who read this board. I am aware of more that are fully aware that GAF is a key opinion former in the games sector. Mark my words. This place's opinion counts. Everyone who's anyone reads it.

Let me know if you're interested and I'll get my thinking cap on. Have a few ideas already. If we can place something before or after the show (before - more exciting, after - more relaxed and more conversation points) that would be better as everyone is fully booked during the three days.

Folder over and out.

:)

Lord, you best hope many don't see that, pretty soon they'll be asking for advances before posting. Though I'm all for an extravagant meet-up, and I'm glad to hear that you're probably going to be there.

Gaijin: If you need someone to cover the Sony press conference for your site I would be happy to. Just RSVP me for your company. I'm actually getting in to LA the Saturday before the show so it would be no problem.

Thank you, but actually I'm freelance so I have no direct input over this type of things. Other thing you should know is that all my medias are spanish, so you need to write in spanish ;) but as you could know spanish, if you want I can direct to the online page I work to speak with the director.

I do both, press and online, the worst of both worlds. Having to refuse a nice party in Malibu with Nintendo crew because you have to do "real time coverage" and then returning home to write dozens of pages before the deadline, it´s great :P

By the way, I think what Folder says it´s quite true, I remember an invitation the last year that was something about "mexican food" or something like that, that was just an industry meeting not related with any company. But I suppose something like that would need the help of owners of GA isn´t?

I'm scheduled to be at UCLA late in April. I can make arrangements again to stay problem is I don't know how to get in. I would like to attend the press conferences. As far as E3 itself, while it would be great to attend, I don't think I'd have too much fun there. Sure maybe the novelty will be there for the first hour but really, that floor is for journalist and people in the industry. I really don't feel like waiting hours to play unfinished games and watch demo reels over and over. On the other hand I really want to attend the press conferences.

Someone told me to just go and try to get in, and if they kick me out to just try again because it isn't hard to get in. I don't want to that. (I'd be so embarrased ;_;). I certainly wouldn't mind going out a night or two with some GAF members for some drinks. (I'm talking to you wasabi!) I remember some people talking about hooking me up and this and that but of course they were all just talk. (I'm looking at you CK!)

Anywho, I asked a local in my area to see if they can help me out. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be appreciated. Just pm me.

i want to meet gaf people.

if pr wants to pay for it then i want to meet gaf people even more.

So who is going to E3?

Yeah, I'll be there.

What part of town are ya staying at?

We'll see!

GAF Meetup again this year?

Yeah, not so much.

Who is hitting up the press conferences?

Not getting into town until the 17th.

Need some hotel advice guys as I've left it too late and now all the hotels in the downtown area are booked out.

Last year I just turned up with no hotel and lots of places had rooms, so I got a great hotel in the downtown area (the mayfair), is this advisable to do again this year? I heard there are lots of cancelations at e3 time.

So who is going to E3?

Most likely.. got lazy last year but this year promises to be exciting. might be really busy that week though

What part of town are ya staying at?

live in LA

GAF Meetup again this year?

maybe if not too busy

Who is hitting up the press conferences?

another maybe..

So who is going to E3?
Looks like I'm going now. Thought I might skip this year, but alas.

What part of town are ya staying at?
Probably the Standard. S'posed to be fairly swank.

GAF Meetup again this year?
I'll be busy working but stop by the Relic/THQ booth when I'm there for pics n whatnot. Honestly, it's the best chance you'll have to catch me in a coherent (ie. not drunk) mood all week. :P

Wasabiking.....TO THE RAMPARTS. TONIGHT WE DRINK...FOR FREEDOM.

We could just get everyone invited to one of those weird little press/food things put on by an obscure company no one cares about.

But... I want to see drunk and disorderly Tim!

Which Standard? The one on The Strip is ace.
Also, they serve Colt 45 40oz bottles in brown paper bags for about £20
Buying them means you get stopped by security thirty times and asked to leave. Get you fucked though. Really well. Hobos so rule!

A more apt name for this section would be Pre-E3 GAF Roundup Special Thread.
It has turned out very special indeed.

WHAT SAY YOU?

We need to interest companies in GAF meetups, I really liked your idea.

Anybody heading to the IGDA party? Anyone....?

i like where this is going... :D

I reckon I gort a sponsor for a meet-up, if I'm there that is. Organising anything not being there would be impossible. Reckon we can sort out drinks somewhere in Hollywood for 20 or so over-21 GAF users. It'll have to be one of the days before or after the show though I'm thinking, though perhaps Thursday might work...
I'll keep you updated.
:)

I've seriously considered going this year (I do that every year, but this year in particular), but it sucks that it would get soo expensive. Had it been in New York or similar, it would've been much better for me. Flying from Sweden to LA and back = broke. But if I manage to conjure an awesome heap of money, I'll go. :D

You see that massive pile of games you've got?
Sell it.

Ok, a question...if I want to live fairly cheap in LA, how much would I be needing to pay for a place to stay, food etc in total per day? I don't care much if it's a bit away from E3 either.

Cheapest place you will find to stay is Stillwell Hotel. It's not the nicest place, but it is close by and cheap. Find a roomate, you can get a double room for about $60 a night.

Oooooooooor......
I'm staying for $18 a night. Isn't it crazy?
It's all I do now when I take trips that I have to pay for myself...

I stay in hostels.
Granted, I'm living with strangers, but I'm out all day and all night, I only need a cheap bed to crash in, right? I'm staying in LA for 5 nights for the price of ONE night at a cheap hotel. And last month when my buddy and I stayed at a hostel in San Fran, our roomates were these two hot girls from Boston, so ::shrug::

Anyway, check out www.hostelworld.com
I'm staying in one right in Hollywood, less than 8 miles from the convention center.

Oh, I'll be at E3 too..... obviously.

So who is going to E3?
Me, as well as five+ friends from The Mushroom Kingdom and The Bonk Compendium (Gamespy-hosted sites).

What part of town are ya staying at?
Burbank

GAF Meetup again this year?
Is there a particular location for this?

Who is hitting up the press conferences?
Probably not

More Friends concert?
Yes

Star Wars Episode III?
Arclight Cinemas, May 19th, 7:45PM

If you know of more stuff to do, I get in on the 16th and leave on the 21st.

"Dear ARNOLD KATAYEV,
Welcome to E3Expo 2005, the world's leading trade event exclusively dedicated to showcasing interactive entertainment and educational software and related products. This message confirms that your registration for an E3Expo 2005 media badge has been approved. "

Good times are a'comin! =D This is #4 for me.

So who is going to E3?

Me.

What part of town are ya staying at?

Santa Monica; a mate's house by the ocean

GAF Meetup again this year?

Never been, but would definitely go if time allowed it.

Who is hitting up the press conferences?

Only if I have to. I'd like to go to Capcom, Konami, Sony, Xbox and PS3's though. The others = don't care.

So who is going to E3?

KyotoMecca and I will be there. Kikizo represent, yo! Ahem.

What part of town are ya staying at?

Mayfair Hotel, right around the corner from the LACC

GAF Meetup again this year?

Time permitting, this should be a hoot. I'm always interested in seeing how different people are online and in person. I like Folder's idea of making it a sponsored affair. How're those plans coming along, Stef?

Who is hitting up the press conferences?

Should be at all three hardware conferences.

Me, my two roomates, my girlfriend and possibly my brother. Along with a friend... a friend, yeah...

I'm staying at my parents' house in Claremont.

I actually was at a sort of GAF meet last year before I had an account.

I'm skipping the conferences, but my ... friend... is going.

Update:

So who is going to E3?

Yes. I can confirm my attendance. Got Mrs Folder on board so we'll totally be there

What part of town are ya staying at?

We're staying in a suite in the Mondrian on The Strip. Sky Bar here we come!

GAF Meetup again this year?

Screw you guys, mean spirited cunts the lot of you. Only joking. I have secured some funding for some free drinks one night. Details to follow. Plan at about 90% right now.

Who is hitting up the press conferences?

*checks hair-washing schedule*
I somehow doubt Microsoft will be inviting us this year. They didn't last year but folded under pressure and cabbed us across last minute. Yeah, I'll be there, if just to revel in the glory of Menaging with billions or whatever it was. And to see the GBA 2 too of course! ;-)

Not that all you high falutin' in-person attendees would know, but does anyone have a recommendation about which online content provider is better for watching the press conferences, IGN or Gamespot?

I'm hoping someone here knows the answer to this:

If I'm going to register on-site, do I have to pay to get in? Even if I'm part of the media with all the neccessary credentials to prove it?
It's not mentioned anywhere on the official E3 site whether or not I have to pay, and if I have to pay $300 just to get in, there's no way I'll be going.

Update:

Suite dreams in tatters - all booked up.

Have "Deluxe Balcony King View" now. Whatever that means.

Still get Sky Bar though. Oh yes!

Mrs Folder happy. She thinks the US is better than the UK. She's clearly right too...

No updates as yet. Everything still ticking along. I basically need to get schedules of everyone involved nailed down.
