A street preacher who yells anti-gay messages got hit over the head by a student outraged by his offensive speech, ABC15 reports.

Glendale, Arizona preacher Brother Dean Saxton makes it a habit to stand outside local high schools and loudly condemn students and members of the LGBT community. ABC15 reports he often also holds a sign that reads, ”You deserve to be raped."

But when he embarked on one of his unsolicited missions this month at Apollo High School, Tabitha Brubaker, 19, responded to what she called hate speech by striking him over the head with a baseball bat, according to authorities. She has been charged with felony assault. Police also charged her with marijuana possession.

Saxton posted a video of the incident on YouTube, in which he can be seen yelling his message outside the high school.

”The Bible says it's not okay to be gay," he yells. ”You need to stop doing naughty, nasty things, Apollo High School. You need to stop looking up naughty, nasty things on the Internet."

He is approached periodically by students and a teacher repudiating him. Saxton accuses the teacher of trying to influence the students, who he called ”evil."

”I'm trying to influence the fact that you need to be gone," the teacher says. ”I think you're a disgrace to Christianity. Why don't you go and preach it to somebody who really wants to hear your message, like Westboro Baptist Church?"

Another adult approaches Saxton and tells him to leave, saying he doesn't think Saxton was ”playing with a full deck." He then says, ”These kids don't need to see that," then reacts with shock when Saxton is hit over the head.

Saxton's camera is still rolling when he is hit, and some people standing around him seem to celebrate. Brubaker is out of frame, but she has been arrested for hitting Saxton.

Update: As it turns out, this is a story from last year. My bad, I saw it on twitter and assumed it was recent.

On the plus side, there is a rather sad follow up for those curious.

An attack outside a west Valley high school shows the lengths one young woman went through to stop what she considered "hate speech."

Nineteen-year-old Tabitha Brubaker's target was controversial preacher Brother Dean Saxton, who has spent years demonstrating outside Valley high schools and colleges as well as busy public events.

He's known for denouncing homosexuality and holding signs telling woman they deserve rape for not being true Christians.

Brother Dean posted YouTube video of his demonstration at Apollo High School earlier this month. In the video he admits he is often confronted and yelled at. He uses a megaphone to tell students they're going to hell.

After several minutes, while he's debating with one man on the video, you hear him being hit as he's ambushed from behind. He was able to walk away clearly bleeding from a gash on his head.

Though you never see Brubaker in the video, police arrested her for felony assault as well as marijuana possession.

Probably took one verse and didn't look at anything else like lots of people do.

As for the woman, hopefully she doesn't get into too much trouble! Or goes to jail.

I don't usually side with people instigating violence, but this is a guy who is holding up a sign saying "You deserve to raped" to high school kids.

I think it's time we retire the adage "violence is never the answer" we've been drilled into us as kids because, clearly, sometimes it is. Even unprovoked violence. And I cannot think of many situations where it is more fitting than with a grown man talking to, and I have to stress who his target audience was, kids about how they ought to be raped.

From AZ. He's pretty notorious around here, most people have heard of him. Pretty sure he's been banned from the universities.

Can't say I feel remotely bad about this (well, except the part about the girl being charged with a felony). He is scum on every level.

I really don't condone violence unless in defense of self or others, they are just words, but I have no sympathy for the guy. If you incite people shit like this can happen. Free speech isn't free from consequence.

Eh. Considering he LITERALLY was advocating violence (he was condoning rape), he deserved to met with violence.

That's pretty much always been my "red line" when it comes this sort of thing. Richard Spencer deserved to get punched in the face because he was LITERALLY advocating for genocide (or as he called it, "soft ethnic cleansing").

If this preacher didn't like being assaulted, then he shouldn't have LITERALLY been advocating the committing of sexual assault.
