Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Interesting concept, but the Predator is very selective with their Hunts.
They only go after the strong and ignore everyone else, having a weapon will get you killed especially if you engaged but they do look for a physically large prey Skull as a trophy and kill armed and ignore the rest.
But that looks like a little girl in that poster...🤔
Not saying she isn't a worthy opponent for the Predator, just that he'll likely just kill her and walk away because she's too small of trophy.

Super advanced seven foot tall alien predator verses small girl with bow.

She should be a grease stain against a tree within seconds.

The Predator franchise contains one and a half good movies. I don’t expect this to change with a stunning and brave Disney movie.

Its ok, they will make her have zero imperfections, she will be the greatest fighter in the world out of the box

Oh she gonna be the super badass, you wait. Current year.

Yup. It’ll be farcical. They’ll literally try to make out she’s physically equal to the monstrous alien killer who always targets the absolute strongest enemy.

That premise sounds kind of amazing actually. Cautiously hyped.

This has the potential to be the best since the OG.

Fantastic director, lead actress, and team behind it.

They're also saying it's more "1988" than new-era style. Hoping for good things.

Arnold killed the Predator with no weapons left except his wits.

This is a really dumb take.

No human being can go toe-to-toe with a Predator, full-stop (and no Danny Glover fighting a massively wounded Predator and getting lucky doesn't count).

Also one of the best Predator stories is a tiny Asian girl teaming up with a Predator to fight off a planet overrun with Aliens... and she ends up joining their tribe and defeating a few 1v1 once she learns their techniques (and has their tech).

Despite the last film being so awful, I'm a huge Predator franchise fan. My absolute favorite part of the original film is when Dutch uses his wits and the natural environment against the Predator's advanced technology.

This whole film may focus on this type of warfare, and I have high hopes it will actually be amazing. 🤞

It's a "last girl" game of cat vs mouse and very similar to a comic book I wanted to create in my early twenties...where a young woman is amongst a tribe where it is always the men who are the fierce warriors and the women are largely anything but...yet she uses her survival instincts and quick thinking to rise above a seemingly invincible and deadly technologically advanced threat.

I just hope they keep the Predator true to their own traditions of honor in their sport of hunting. "The Predator" was garbage at this.

Weren't people hyped about Shane Black directing (and writing) The Predator? And look how that turned out - absolute garbage that was even more offensive to watch than AvP flicks.

So this is Trachtenberg's rumored movie "Skulls"? Only on Hulu? No cinema release? Fucking lame!

Trachtenberg is a good director, but I'm still pessimistic. After Shane Black - whom many thought to be the one who would finally be able to produce a good Predator movie -, I'm really not sure.

It's really a shame how badly the Predator franchise has been treated over the decades. It has so much potential...

There hasn't been a Predator film as good as the original. Predator 2 was average. Predators was awful and The Predator was absolute dog shit.

I have very low expectations for this one.

When it comes to predator films, i always keep my expectations low as fuck. that way i won't be surprised when they turn out absolute fucking turd, and can smile to myself. yet there are people here who could write a better treatment. probably. :messenger_grinning_squinting:

The Predator wasn't anywhere near as bad as AvP 2... tbh I kind of enjoyed it even if it was over the top.

I love Predator 1&2. AVP 1&2 and Predators were terrible films and felt like nothing more than a cash grab. I'll remain cautiously optimistic with Prey as I like the sound of the world being set in a Comanche Nation 300 years ago.

No he didn’t. He dropped a gigantic log on the cunt. And used grenades tied to spears. He also literally goes toe to toe with the predator in a fist fight and lives.

My point is that I am fine if this new movie chooses to show the girl working in cooperation with others to bring the predator down. That’s the only conceivable way they could do it, because they’ll be a bunch of primitives with shitty weapons. But that’s not what they’re going to do, is it?

It‘s probably going to set up that she can do everything herself, all on her own, and she don’t need no one else to help her kill the evil alien space monster. She’ll have little to no flaws in her character, and will triumph single handedly.

I really, really hope I’m wrong about all of that, but I doubt it.

I was super optimistic about this film because of Dan Trachtenberg but now that it is releasing directly on digital, I have zero faith and am quite worried.

My guess on why no theatrical release is 3fold
1) For the most part 20th Century movies have not done well theatrically since Disney bought it.
2) That is double true for Predator movies, and they have mostly sucked and done bad at the BO
3) Disney/20th Century might lose the rights to the Predator IP and this might be the last product they release unless they give Jim and John Thomas some hush money

I enjoyed Predators and The Predator but even I can admit 20th Century don't seem to know how ow to treat the franchise. I was hoping that under new ownership they might be about to set the correct course and improve upon the franchise. Throwing it on Hulu feels like they are choping the budget and it won't reach it's full potential.

I still wish that this film wasn't leaked as a Predator film. Could have been a great "Split" like moment if it was only revealed in cinema what it really was.

The main issue with every single Predator sequel, and the reason why the franchise has been so poor, is because every subsequent film fails to understand why the first one was so successful.

The Predator only works when it’s up against the right protagonist. Nobody loved that first movie because it was an action horror film about an alien monster in a jungle. They loved it because it was an alien monster in a jungle up against the biggest and most popular movie star in the world. Arnold made that film what it was.

Yes, the Predator is a fantastic creature design, but it’s not really that complex or that interesting as a character. If it’s not set against the right enemy, it fails.

If they truly wanted to make a commercially successful Predator film again, they’d put it up against somebody like The Rock. And return to the gore and the visceral violence of the first film… which is also an aspect that’s vital for a film about a merciless alien hunter that the audience is supposed to be in awe of.

None of that will happen because they still think that Predator was popular just because of the Predator.

I remember the Dark Horse comics being amazing. Had the first issue pinned to my bedroom wall.

Never went past the 2nd though which I liked, just awful reviews afterwards and a pain in the ass to bother going to a good screen. Once I heard about Aliens Vs. Predator being a film, i'd already stopped caring. Bloody loved that graphic novel and arcade game. Read and played both a serious amount.

Different strokes, I’d be bored if a Predator sequel desperately tried to be like the first one again in that regard especially if they made it so obvious by casting Dwayne Johnson (and geezus, if they got him you know it’d be in a jungle, LOL).

A big part of what made Predator great for me was this alien presence being shoved into an unrelated story. A team of elite soldiers dealing with some insurgents, could have easily been a whole movie by itself, but then BAM a fucking alien says hello. In 2, you’ve got a huge war between cops and gangs, again could’ve been the movie right there, but BAM aliens! The two sequels messed up this aspect as the Predators are crucial to both stories immediately, but I think 3 is just mid with some occasional cool moments and I do like 4 for just being fun.

I also appreciate the different types of character groups. 1 had elite mercs. 2 had a team of ordinary cops. 3 did have elite soldiers as well but they didn’t know each other and were often at odds with one another. 4 had a decent soldier finding himself forced to work with a bunch of mentally unstable soldiers. I would want more sequels to keep things fresh that way, not just cast the most badass actor hot on the market right now which immediately screams to me, “oh, we’re just doing the first film again, *yawn*”

I want to see Predator move forward with something similar to Prometheus. For all it gets mocked it had the right idea. Predator was a cool intro into a larger world we don't understand. We don't need to just see repeats of the intro. Move the story forward. Here we're literally going backward.

Hmm, who wants to take the bet that PREY will feature a scene where a heavily armed (for the period) group of white guys gets massacred by the pred while a lone girl with a knife and 20 pound draw bow takes it on and wins?

I feel like there will need to be another unknown in this, be it a rival pred, some other alien, or Alien aliens.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if this is a survival horror film of a desperate tribe getting picked off one by one as they struggle to flee through an unforgiving wilderness and the girl is just a lucky survivor.

Hear what you’re saying, but the first film really is the only actually good film, for the reasons I highlighted. I used The Rock as an example, but the point is that Predator succeeds and fails based on who you put the creature up against… and no sequel has come close to the first one in those terms… hence why they range from mediocre to utter shit.

Ultimately, instead of once again trying to milk a franchise that was pretty much over after the first story, they should try to actually think up something new.

Horrifying idea as that may sound the the bunch of creatively bankrupt twats who run Hollywood.

Might watch it, no matter how much good the originals are each movie is their own circumstance. If they can recover the military, survival feel from the original predator it could start a franchise.

Not sure if putting it on Hulu would be chopping the budget. The budget was gonna be "chopped" regardless since the last movie had a ~90MM budget and bombed. This is probably in line with other Predator movies in the 40-50MM budget. Streaming services are more than okay with this budget.
