"Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is an excellent sequel to a game that caught many by surprise last year. Those who enjoy navigating through beautifully designed levels, complete with clever puzzles and traps, will definitely get their fill of them here. Moreover, the combat has improved greatly, although it's still not the principle strength of the game. However, those who primarily enjoyed last year's The Sands of Time for its original charm and subtle character development may not find quite what they're looking for in this sequel. But even with this caveat, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is easy to recommend for any action adventure fan, and its lengthier campaign should keep players busy for a lot longer this time around."

MOBILE VERSION

9.2
http://www.gamespot.com/mobile/action/princeofpersiaii/review.html

"All in all, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is a highly advanced and technically ambitious mobile platformer that has been executed almost flawlessly. In the past, the weak spot of similar Gameloft platformers has been their relative brevity. By contrast, this game feels only slightly on the short side, and even though there's no adjustable difficulty, the adventure is large enough to keep most players occupied for several hours. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is a dominant game on its own merits, but it's identical to the first game in one respect: Anyone who is remotely interested in playing an action game on their handset should download it."

HAHA TRICKED.

"Community Lowdown: 5.4" :lol

Do people really care about reviews for cell phone games?

I read that entire paragraph and didn't realize the "trick" until the last 3 words :(

thanks for posting the review, but shouldn't a word like 'MOBILE' also be in the title of this topic?

glitches in Xbox and PS2 versions:
Some technical flaws in the Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions of the game also mar the experience somewhat. The Xbox version is prone to audio glitches. Certain sound effects get stuck, and, at other times, scenes that should have voice in them are cut off completely. This is a shame, because the sound effects in the game, aside from some ham-handed voice acting from the prince, are excellent and impactful. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 2 version's flaws are graphical. As a result, the game has a slightly choppier frame rate than the other versions. While it's not enough to hinder gameplay or combat, it does detract a bit from an otherwise beautiful-looking game. We didn't notice any sound or frame rate issues with the GameCube version of Warrior Within, however.

When games come out on all platforms, I usually buy the GC version just so my GC library isnt reduced to 4 games, so GC PoP2 here I come!

I demand an IGN head 2 head video! If they can compare the old Mario 64 game but not last years GOTY sequal something is definitely wrong.

Here's a translation:

Those looking to revisit what made Prince of Person: Sands of Time so inimitably endearing need not apply. Artfully crafted levels won't be found here. Instead, expect to endure affectedly moody surroundings, repetitive combat, and tired goth rock.

Whoa now, this is a suprise...

Should I get the GC version instead??? Does the GC version supports 480p? That's a huge thing...

If the GC version has 480p support and looks at least as good as the XBOX version, I'll get that version. The GC version of PoP1 was missing some of the lighting effects that I loved, and I don't want that to occur again...

didnt it supposedly have better textures though ?

Yeah, but only CERTAIN textures. Lighting is more important to me, though...

Does anyone know about 480p though? I need to know in the next 10 minutes. :P

Now I don't regret buying the GC version last year! I was positive the Xbox would be an obvious best for the sequel, and I didn't want to split systems! w00t!

hm...have there been any other reports of these xbox sound glitches? i'd rather not buy the gc version, cos i don't have gc component cables and i don't like the controller.

Well, I never got an answer in my thread regarding 480p support in the GC version. I went ahead with it regardless, though, and can confirm that the GC version supports 480p.

Seems like a made a good choice.

What are the symptoms of the XBOX sound glitches, though?

That has happened to me on several occasions, good thing I had subtitles activated!

Well, the GS review suggests that they simply did not notice the audio issues on GC or PS2. That doesn't mean they don't exist, but it MIGHT mean that they are less frequent...

I guess we'll find out. :\

Well, I'm playing the GC version now...

Sadly, the game runs in 16-bit color so there is dithering. :( Also, the shader effects on the ship are missing (but those might only be present in the PC version). Other than that, the framerate is perfect (well, a perfect 30 fps) and it feels pretty good on GC. The colors are a whole lot brighter than the PS2 and PC demos too. Those demos felt VERY grungy and dark whereas the GC version is a lot more colorful.

Now sound issues yet either.

Oh, and the opening movie looked awful on GC. The compression was pretty terrible, the sound was a bit lacking, and the movement was a tad jerky. I hope there isn't much FMV in the game, as it looks awful on GC...

edit - The dithering really sucks. The game uses a lot of dark colors and all of the richness is sucked right out thanks to the incredible amount of color dithering. What the hell is the deal? I haven't seen it on XBOX, but it wasn't like this on the PS2 or PC (obviously not on the PC).

Well Gamespot is wrong anyways...

The GC version has sound problems too AND is the worst looking version. It's VERY VERY VERY VERY grainy and has slowdown issues in larger rooms.

I wish I had not read that review. :(

Cattle prod guy should do "all in all," too.

DFS.

Wouldn't eliminating "overall" and "all in all" make it much more difficult to post a superfluous excerpt from the review when all we really want is to argue over numbers?

I've played the PS2 and PC versions of the game and neither of them have such severe dithering.

I did find that the GC version pumps up the brightness when in 480p mode, so I made a special preset mode on my TV just for this game (with the brightness turned down). Now it looks quite a bit better, but it still has a very dirty, dithered look.

Based on the other versions, though, I'd assume the XBOX version does not have the problem.

Now, the PS2 version has more slowdown, that's for sure. However, the GC version certainly has some as well. The PC demo, however, ran at a smooth 60 fps on my PC and sported several effects that are not present in the other two.

The GC version does have some sound issues, though, so I'd assume that holds true for all versions of the game. It is simply a bug...

I'm feeling a bit better about it after discovering that 480p mode has a brightness issue, but I was really pissed when I posted above. Also, I'm having a strange wavebird issue with this game. If you let even a tiny bit of pressure off of the triggers, whatever action you were doing is cancelled. If you are running along a wall, for instance, it is easy to fall unless you really squeeze the trigger tightly. It's the only game I can think of that has this issue...
