Personally I thought the game was awful :/ I did not like SoT that much (played it AFTER Ninja Gaiden), but WW was not even as good. Not even mentionning the bugs...

Ah well. Guess my hopes that it would bomb so Ubi would give us a proper sequel will go unfulfilled. Slightly worried what message this'll send to developers.

SCEI announce change of direction for Ueda's new game.

Wanda and the Colossal Boobies.

Its good. Ubi needs big sales for non-military games IMO. This will be positive for future games from the developers.

Unless EA decides against it :/

PoP3: The Warrior Within my Thighs - Join the Prince on his angst-ridden quest for beer and women after a bust up with his girlfriend, 'cause that bitch just doesn't understand him, she's all like, nag nag nag, and he's had a stressful day at work 'cause his boss is a bastard and he should just like, slap the man down, and then some f**king soccer mum cut him off on the freeway and.................

It was a good game and the "Badditude" wasn't quite as blatent as expected (it is early on, but the levels still have a mystical feel and some of the music is actually good). I still wish they would not have moved in this direction...

Prince of Persia: WW is a good game. It went in a bad direction in terms of the "OMG IM SO ANGSTY" shit, but the core gameplay is still remarkably well done. And gameplay is what matters in the end.

I think Jeremy Slater had the difinitive quote on POP:WW

"Blinx 2 is a shitty game that’s not worth your time, and Ubisoft has ruined their Prince of Persia franchise with the worst attitude adjustment in gaming history and a ridiculous focus on unsatisfying combat in favor of environmental puzzles. "

BenT said:
I used to think that, but then I played this. :/

Yes, and I think it confirms that gameplay matters. PoP:WW holds up despite the attitude "adjustment" as Shard's review said.

Those PR quotes really are clammering at straws.

1.8 mil ain't bad though. I guess that's all formats combined though, which is still not that impressive considering it's a sequel.

Basically, PoP:WW is a good game despite its new direction not because of it.

Also, did they get The Tea Room to do any of the music this time around?

This is great news as it assures another sequel.

While I won't say it's as good as the original game, it's still a quality title and as much as hardcore gamers everywhere decry it's "attitude", it got noticed this time round because of it.

Frankly it amuses the hell out of me to see how much of the gamer audience wanted PoP:WW to fail for this change.

it also makes me sad when people cry about change in games...if games didn't shake up their forumlas once in a while people would lose interest in the pasttime and take their cash elsewhere, and we certainly don't need another 1984 Crash on our hands

Sands of Time was only available for the PS2 initially, and had to fight with Beyond Good & Evil at the same time. Have Ubisoft got anything else of note out just now?

I dunno what people are smoking...

Sands of Time had the worst battle system ever. What Ubi Soft did was to make it much, much better for Warrior Within. There isn't more fighting in this game (except the boss battles). It's just better fighting, that's why Ubi focused on showing trailers/screens of it since it was the only thing that was bad about SoT.

You fight just as much as you did in SoT. People seem to think this is some fighting game now -- which it definitely isn't!

See, this is something that few people bring up, one of the big reasons why PoP: SW underperformed and BG&E failed at box office life was that some marketing dipshit decided to release them in nearly tandem to each other and it ended up cannibalizing sales.

While we're pointing out why this figure is bloated, let me add some logs to the fire. It's one of the most rushed games I've played in as long as I can remember.

* 3 game lock ups in 5 hours of play. This is just ridiculous.

* missing sound effects. Opening scene has all sorts of crazy stuff going on with missing sound effects for half the action. The almighty Dahaka (sp?) takes about 20 seconds to do his "kill" animation, while slamming you into the ground and sucking your life into his own. Not a single sound effect was played for this.

* Music cut off and/or completely missing. I had one area where I heard the music build up and then it suddenly just cut off and I was met with silence. Every time I died, I heard the music build up and then suddenly cut out again.

* Glitchy gameplay. Was fighting a group of enemies on a high platform and went to flip over someone. Instead of landing on the other side of them (which was roughly 10 feet away from the ledge) the prince magically warped over to the ledge and fell to his death. Same sort of thing happened when I started moving the camera around on a rotating platform in one area.

* Invisible walls. On more than one occasion I found invisible walls blocking my path to a common area. The main palace room with the ledges had this even. It was as if the game was trying to block my access because the area could not be streamed fast enough.

* Glitchy graphical effects. You enter this one outdoor, sunny area where it's meant to be really bright (which doesn't really make sense once you see the rest of the areas in the same time) but they messed up the effect by making the glow one big rectangle that you can actually see the corners of.

This is to say nothing of the stiff animation. In the opening scenes my brother and I were laughing so hard at how stiff and quick all the in-game cut scene animations were. Considering how serious they were apparently taking this game, I don't think laughter is what they were going for.

This is, without a doubt, my dissapointment of the year. It should have had at least another 2 months of development time just to get rid of the horrible bugs. Beyond the actual glitches, I don't like the new direction at all. The art in this game is really great, but it's the art direction that is pulling it down. That and the music selection. There were a couple times where I stood in awe, but realized I had nu metal stabbing my ears and decided to move on.

There are some amazing coders and artists at Ubisoft Montreal - give them a project that doesn't insult their talent! I can even see a lot of potential in their level designers, but they are being held back by focus groups and the suits.

Why did people want this game to fail? It's an awesome game. wtf?

Too many 'comic book guys' in this thread.

WORST

GAME

EVAR

:\

I dunno, I haven't really encountered any major glitches. A few sound errors, but nothing else. It's been just fine on XBOX...

Good post Jasonsider, I couldn't agree more. Especially the animation who was so incredibly bad in the first level. The boss fight in this level was laughable at times (like when the prince falls on his back, awful animation), and also was much too hard. Did they want the game to be more like Ninja Gaiden by putting one of the hardest fights right in the first level ?

It isn't so much Warrior Within is the "Worst Game Ever" it is more Warrior Within stylistic shifts that are quite the affront to many gamers sense of tastes.

The PR says shiipped. Woo big deal Sega shipped 1.5 million copies of NFL2K3 at launch and looked what happened there. Let us wait for the NPD data first. :D

It's not that hard. Basically every boss has the same movement. You just gotta learn to block Blim ;)
I finished Ninja Gaiden, so believe me I know what's blocking ;)
Maybe it's just that blocking is soooo slow I get beaten to death before the prince finishes the blocking animation. It sucks.

Affront to many gamers sense of taste? You mean the small vocal minority that frequent message boards? Because I don't think that really qualifys as "many gamers".

Well, that wouldn't be including that angsty goth teen segment of the message board population who actually like this "baditiude" shit.

My problem with this game is that horribly generic metal riff that plays throughout 90% of the game. That and flying off the edge to my death during a boss fight. I absolutely hated this fucking game. It is nothing compared to Sands of Time.

Yes, I realize you don't like the game, but "you" does not equal everyone, nor the aformentioned "many" for that matter.

^w^

The point I am trying to get accross is that some of the hardcore gamers got a real bad taste in their mouths from the changes in style and direction that Warrior Within experienced.

All the game needed to do was ditch the fighting, retain the beautiful music from the first one and just concentrate on the awesome level design.

sad day for gaming when WW sells better then SOT.

anyone who says more people got it because it was "better" game is either stupid/ubi employee.

Haha, I knew it. Making the game 'superteenangstybutcool' brings in the money. Badass looking character and Godsmack in the commercial brings in the casuals. There were those who said these sales would never come... what have they to say now?

I just wish that guitar riff wasn't there. Otherwise the game is great.

The gameplay may still be great, but they sold out for the sake of image, sales and utterly destroyed a good character and story. The story and acting both pale compared to the efforts made in Sands of Time.

Granted, I don't play games specifically for story, but its just frustrating that they didn't make a PoP game for PoP fans, but rather, a PoP game for people who didn't but it last year. Now that EA has a 20 percent stake in Ubi, I don't see the series going uphill from here.

1.8 million units delivered? :lol As in, "Nobody ordered 'em, but we shipped 'em out anyway!" I like how they have to combine the sales of every version of the game, just to get into the top 5 (or top 6) for the week that it was released.

Does anyone have a link to the UBS report that says POP: WW is #5?

They claimed that the last game was a huge success, even though they had to start bundling it with free copies of Splinter Cell within 6 weeks of release. I didn't think retailers would be stupid enough to order so many copies after they got burned with so much excess inventory last year.

I think you mean "Prince of Persia Warrior Within a BUG success"....

http://cheats.ign.com/articles/572/572408p1.html?fromint=1

1.The Bug: During the fight with
the girl in red
, players may cause the boss to break open the wall at the throne prematurely. Entering the time portal room will move the player into a later area without the proper powers or equipment.

Bug Status: Confirmed. Fatal if followed through.

2.The Bug: Re-entering the clock tower after
access to the throne room and hourglass chamber
is available may cause this player-faulted bug whereby the player cannot exit the clock tower.

Bug Status: Confirmed. Dead game if followed through.

3.The Bug: After earning the
wall breaking sword
, the Prince is directed back to the throne room a second time. When negotiating the side hall to enter the throne room, the breakable wall from the hallway into the throne room may be passed through, but is one way only. A random boss may also flicker into existence and then out again.

Bug Status: Confirmed. Potentially fatal if followed through.

4.The Bug: After the first fight with
the Empress of Time
, the player is transported to the beach (Fortress Entrance) with the objective, "Follow the Girl in Black" with no obvious prodding of the game.

Bug Status: Confirmed. Fatal, if followed through.

5.The Bug: During the second fight with
the Empress of Time
, the boss may teleport next to the Prince when he is hanging on the ledge of the arena. The boss will immediately drop to the "bottom" of the room, but will not be killed nor will it teleport back into the play field.

Bug Status: Confirmed. Fatal.

6.The Bug: Occasionally, if the player saves, quits, then reloads at various points in the game prior to
A Second Chance
, the player will start the session as a zombie or wraith like character instead of the normal Prince.

Bug Status: Confirmed. Potentially fatal if followed through.

7.The Bug: Some doors, gates, or other seemingly impassable objects are sometimes non-corporeal; the Prince may walk through them without any physical resistance although the graphic is in plain sight.

Bug Status: Confirmed. Non-fatal.

Tried to hide anything that people might not wanna know before playing. Gotta say, this is insane. Something open ended like GTA, I expect bugs. This game? Just rushed and sloppy. Needed another month, but they had to make it for Christmas.
