Prince of Persia WW a big success

I'm curious whether I'll dislike the change in style as much as everyone else around here. It's a ways down on my to-play list though, since now that the semester is over, I first need to tackle all the really big games from November.

I don't see why there is hate even with the changed look. I think it's one of the best looking games when it comes to western art.

I see Ubisoft is still making bugs in their games. I encountered bugs in BG&E and PoP:Sands of Time that made me restart my entire game. Argh.

You obviously haven't played the game.

It's AGGRAVATING at times. The moment you start fighting, or use the sword a couple of times, the prince GROWLS. I mean, what the heck is up with that?

"ROARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR WALL COME DOWN ROARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!"

The game looks great and the art isn't bad, but the color themes do not vary enough. The rooms look a lot alike, and there's tons of backtracking (easily about half of the game.)

Now, I don't hate the game. I did like it, but it tossed away what made the first one so special, which was that magical look.

Another thing is the script. Horrendous script. It seems to have been written by 15 year olds on a fit. "YOU BITCH!"

I'm both glad and disappointed with the sales. Glad, because this will hopefully mean there will be sequels to this series. Disappointed, because the direction the series will take might be the wrong one, imo.

UBI is a strange company. They make some really good games, but they don't seem to like to put in that final effort to make sure the game is polished before release.

Glad it's selling through, as that means the sequel is probably locked in. That said, I gotta admit I disliked the paradigm shift from 'folklorish arabian nights' to 'gothical angsty master sworsdman'. POP:Sot had this warm, magical quality throughout that I really enjoyed. Sad to see it go.

Standin' in EB games yesterday holding the box and pondering an impulse purchase, then found a cheap used copy of Ninja Gaiden. Ended up buying that, even though I've beaten it already and lent my primary copy to a friend, just 'cause I'd rather play through as Ryu than deal with Angsty Prince Charming and his Nu Metal Soundtrack. I think that sums it up.

I'll prolly end up buying POP2 after the holidays anyway, though, so hypocrite +1. :D

Cred points ++

:p

NG kicks too much ass. Just thinking about it makes me want to play it.

And, obviously, without any doubt NG >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> PoP: WW.

Yeah, in Beyond Good and Evil, I was in the final dungeon walking along, when suddenly one of my helper characters disappeared. No, he wasn't left behind, he was there one minute and the next he just wasn't. I walked through the entire dungeon before concluding it wasn't worth the risk to save it, and promptly had to start the whole dungeon over. Saving in multiple slots is a prerequisite for me in Ubi titles now.

damn, this sh*t actually worked? the market really has turned very cheesy and fickle then.
good for ubisoft though, i remember PoP and BGandE bombing. they do need their games to actually sell, despite what the hardcore may believe.

Not the hardcore's fault that Ubisoft made a classic Sega decision in releasing PoP and BG&E close to each other.

BG and E sold much much worse than POP. I don't think anyone cared about BG and E enough to make much of a dent in POP's sales.

Besides, if Sony can release Jak 3 and Ratchet 3 in the same month and sell close to 200,000 of each, I wouldn't be waggling my finger at Ubi as if they are the only ones to release games in the same genre close to each other. (although that's debatable-I say one's a starfox adventures clone with stealth, the other's a platformer)

And POP didn't sell spectacularly, but it really didn't do as bad as people suggest! Posted in the other Warrior Within thread, but repeated for emphasis:

http://cube.ign.com/articles/488/488841p1.html

"Prince of Persia sold approximately 218,000 units in December for PlayStation 2, easily the biggest performer. The Xbox version followed with 128,000 units sell-through and GameCube managed 85,000 sales. With November and December figures combined, Prince topped 272,000 units on PS2; 172,000 on Xbox; and 100,000 on Nintendo's console."

Not that i don't want games from my employer to sell but this games proves again that "badass" and sex sells. The casuals are running the business, and they buy anything that includes those 2 elements.
STILL, i'm glad that POP (despise Godsmack, bugs and cheesy cut-scenes) is actually a good game.

This game crushing bug thing seems to be popping up more and more lately.

I'm currently at the clock towers and I like the game for its graphics, environments and platforming.

But the enemy voices and dialogue are terrible, the fighitng is hit and miss and I don't care for the boss fights.

I read somewhere - i think IGN about the number of game killer bugs in this game - there was a pretty extensive list too (things like walls breaking before they shouldn't... you enter the area and dead game - stuck).. and other bugs like getting to a place and there's a killer bug and you can't advance (but the game has autosaved so you can't go back). All confirmed too

I've played the Pal version of Warrior Within (which I liked more than Sands of Time....yes,please WW haters don't jump with knifes at me :lol :D ) and I've experienced a single bug.
In the garden with the statue while I was jumping the camera went crazy and started to rotate without control, the Price was not controllable anymore, reset was needed.
Other than that as I said I liked Warrior Within,I think the game is really balanced,it's not true it's all fighting,it alternates fighting moments (which are not boring as in the first) with the classical environmental puzzles in a perfect way, story was better,I liked the artistic style of the new environments and better graphics is a welcome plus.I was indifferent at the new attitude of the prince which anyway is not as a radical change as a few seem to think.

Every time the Prince slows down time, you hear "We are the lazy generation, no more standing out in line, so good at wasting our time....." :D

Haha, took me a moment to recognize that. I hate that song. I hate it more than anything else I can think of.

Im glad to see the game do so well. I'm getting it tomorrow hopefully. I played it at Virgin megastores and I bloody loved it.

I really cant see whats wrong with the badditude though, the game plays just as well, its just darker theme. I prefer it this way anyway.

I'm glad I read this thread. The bugs from the first game completely turned me off. Now I'm absolutely certain I'm not going to pick up this game even as a rental.

How hard is it to polish a game up?
