I think a smart cooling solution would be needed when you factor in all the simple facts

More power, size of box compared to PCs
failure of 360 that brought about making sure it didn't happen on xbox one

add all this up together and they are going to need good cooling options (especially in their mind) to help make sure the box isn't too big

Xbox one was really big compared to ps4 and it isn't that the cooling was impressive just designed to not overheat with its size and placement.

It will all depend on the size they want to go with that dictates what kind of special cooling they could go with. (and costs)

That's a possibility of course lol I edited that in a bit.

Large box still has it's added costs in materials although not much, but if your making a lot less plastic, when you have millions of boxes and shipping boxes it will make a difference. Compare how many systems Nintendo can fit in a shipping container compared to MS as well.
 
I'm actually willing to bet that f the box design is sleek enough, people will pay plenty on that factor alone. Toss in a Forza 7 showing and whatnot and people will buy cuz shiny tech. The uninformed gamer will buy a 4K set and buy cuz messaging that it is the most powerful assuming they don't have a 4K TV. Dell will offer a system + TV bundle. Stuff like that. I'm speculating, but believe this to be not far from the truth.

I heard someone say on here (don't know where they got the info, I think Jez's Xbox Central podcast I have yet to listen to) that it was a similar size or smaller then Xbox One S, which I honestly can't believe, personally.

Yes they were. They were buying ton's of those UNCHARTED 4 bundles. Even when they had the limited uncharted 4 PS4.
Why are games like Nier, Horizon, even Yakuza selling? And I would argue the 249.99 extension till Feb Sony did was so those games could help sell systems.
Hardware doesn't do anything unless you've got games to play on them and that's something MS doesn't have appeal wise.

Sea of thieves will only speak to a specific crowd that stream their games and like the social aspect of it. Forza is a specific game for people who like racers, but isn't the only racing game competing for your money. And crackdown is not that great of a series to begin with the word is still out on that game.
So again if scorpio's main selling point is playing most of your multiplats in 4K is that compelling enough for people on the fence to buy a scorpio? They just released a new box last year that did pretty well not because it was cheapo but because it added value. If you don't have a 4k tv what value is scorpio to you without software that's unique to that platform?

Currently that's the issue XBox brand has and why even shinobi said some things on it a while back about the early days of xbox one and how games as a service has fucked the overall outlook of it's library and their overall approach to games.

The switch is doing as well as it is because of Zelda, zelda has like what a 110% attach rate right? You think call of duty, destiny and the likes are going to have that kind of effect when they can be played on PC, PS4 PRO, PS4 xbox on s?

Yeah it was said on the podcast but take that with a "huge grain of salt."
 
Considering it is coming out 4 years later than One, I don't see the surprise in the box being the same size as S as a huge deal. It's two year's after that one and there box was bulky to begin with to help cooling.

Actually adding in a cooling system wouldn't be that difficult with a box that is still bigger than Pro already.

I'd say they probably need a cooling system of some sort to get the size down a bit with being the size of S.

I expect the system to also be quite heavy but hopefully not insane heavy.
 
I think people need to manage expectations. From what we know so far, there isn't any event taking place. Just that a certain publication will be revealing technical information about Scorpio.

Nothing has been said about games being shown, price, name etc.

Manage expectations or end up getting disappointed. I am excited to hear about the specs and what it will be able to do, but if that's not what you're into, it may not be something to be terribly excited about.

But this will be a full detailed analysis of the specs as it seems DF were invited by MS to check out the Scorpio. We also may get footage of Forza 7, which many will be excited about.
 
Personally, I wouldn't want it to be similar to the Xbox One S. I want it to be different, unique. Small is OK, but thatvthing better be able to keep cool.

Didn't become the Band, Band actually got discontinued that year. More likely it went back to the drawing board or just shelved.

As for Device 5 I honestly believe we will hear more about that in the future.

they also stream xbox to pc and maybe will try it vince versa and via the app on every device


i expect the xbox one stick in some year, when they can fit the actual xbox one s in that form factor (1 or 2 more dieshrinks)
full console power at that size for $99 would be something you can sell to your customer
a pure streaming device, that cant really do more than a fire tv stick? not such much

only thing they can likely do is price but MS can counter somewhat with S

If the games are looking good against pro though, that can work well for MS to make up sales with the combo of S/Scorpio imo

BC, their sub plans are all great things that seem it will help them.

Which is why they should have waited to launch it next year and have it with more than 6tf. Pull an OG xbox move. CUt out early and get a head start on Sony. All your games run and work and look great in native 4k, but that give you time for them to push some games to be launch games. They still get released on xbox one and one s, but are premiered on xbox new gen.

Also give them a little time to get their budget re-adjusted for a new gen with new projects and studios.

Makes more sense than what they are doing. Sony will have a new box out by fall of 2019 and one of the games that will be playable will be Last of us part 2 in native 4k 60fps. And they will more than likely have sequels to games that are ending this generation, and have games that are on PS4 look amazing on PS5. Your whole library will work on PS5.

Imagine what they have cooking? New guerrilla game possibly horizon sequel or new shooter.

I know right? Like how do you not look back as a division at OG XBOX and 360? Xb 360 launched with Kameo, perfect dark, best version of Fight night. And then within a year brought the big guns with gears, then mass effect, halo 3.

It's polarizing seeing people in other scorpio related threads who really think a powerful box will change everything. I mean on a tech side of things I get it, it sounds like a rad piece of tech. But that's all it is, it's not like they are relaunching Xbox live with it, xbox OS, with games that are being exclusive or have exclusive features on scorpio.

Just better frames and higher resolution does not sell consoles. PS4 had those things but it was it's price, and over all pitch with the slew of software they consistently showed at shows that enticed people to come to their platform.

It's funny how some people says that ms lacks diversity in its line up and then when they develop sea of thieves, it doesn’t count because of 'x' reason, state of decay 2 doesn't count because of 'y', crackdown neither. What about cuphead? Nah it's too niche. They always need something else by this logic.

Nah, I don't think so and I am glad when mods shut down the twitter tweets of the sales guy where they do.

This is the world we live in (I also said in my post he obviously doesn't have to post here, what people do is 100 percent obvious their business, he can answer who he wants, do as he wants etc and I would nevere say otherwise about anyone) but I hope mods stop the twitter things where they can as much as possible when it comes to gaf to gaf interaction which this is what that is imo

Lacks diversity basically means doesn't have JRPG's. The console actually has a lot of diversity

I think the issue with cuphead and below for that matter is for indie games it has been years and long gaps without information. Something which i think Phil knows as well with first party published games been announced way in advanced
 
DF got the exclusive because they were gonna leak the specs and performance of a Scorpio running at 80% of it's potential, that's why this thing seems/feels kinda rushed
 
I will always buy Sony as long as they control the MLB situation for a solid baseball game. I also love their exclusives.

I would buy an Xbox if they provide reason enough to own one when it comes to software. It doesn't need to be in native 4K for me unless the console price is premium, then it better be in 4K and run smooth. Give me a solid reason not to play on my PC or that's where I'll play your digital Xbox 1st party games. A lot of AAA 3rd party games wind up on PC anyway.

I think this box is more for those that don't want to pay premium gaming PC prices building a powerful Gaming rig, and will settle for something solid at a solid price with a 4K Bluray player. There are a lot of people out there I know that don't know jack about building a rig, are afraid to, and don't want to pay a ton. They just buy a console to plug n game?
