When
April 24th 2012 (PS3 & 360)
July 24th 2012 (PC-NA)
July 30th 2012 (PC-EU)

Plot
The main character of Prototype 2 is Sergeant James Heller, a man who blames the deaths of his family on Alex Mercer. After surviving a suicide mission and being transformed into the virus by Alex Mercer, Heller is looking to kill Mercer, who acts as the game's main antagonist. Mercer's motives are unclear, but unlike the first game he is not committed to stopping the virus, but seems to be spreading it.

After the events of the first game, Manhattan recovered from the initial outbreak and everyone thought that the now named Mercer Virus was eradicaded. 14 months after Prototype, Manhattan has been quarantined again, due to a second outbreak, one far worse than the first one, and blocked off from the other boroughs of New York City, which has been renamed New York Zero (NYZ). The boroughs of New York have been divided into three zones, the Red, Yellow, and Green Zone. Each region stands for how affected New York City is by the Blacklight virus. Most boroughs of New York Zero have been infected. The Red Zone is Manhattan, home of Alex Mercer; in it the Blacklight virus grows unhindered. The Yellow Zone is a triage area full of shanty towns and the poor, it is very crowded and while the virus grows there, it is at a minimum and Blackwatch is using the Yellow Zone as a petri dish. The Green Zone is non-infected New York City, except there is a heavy Blackwatch presence. James Heller will have missions in each zone and each mission's difficulty will depend on which zone it takes place in. Blackwatch is credited as occupying and controlling NYZ, but they are said to know that New York actually belongs to Alex Mercer even though the latter is only seen rarely.

Gameplay
James Heller can shapeshift and assume other people’s identities and memories by consuming them. Taking people's identities and shapeshifting into them has become more tactical. Due to Blackwatch's actions in the Yellow Zone, if the player assumes the role of a soldier, people will react to him in a way that they show they want nothing to do with him. To make sure that enemies do not overwhelm the player, Radical has created a dodging system and new, more realistic AI. Heller will be able to use weapons in the game, such as ripping the cannon off a tank and using it against enemies. Heller can also sneak up on unsuspecting human enemies, inject the Blacklight virus in them and create a "BioBomb" out of them to blow up objects, enemies and such.

To give gamers more power in the game, the developers have added tendrils. Tendrils sprout from Heller's arm and can be used for a variety of purposes. Players can use tendrils to smash objects into other objects, such as a car into a tank or vice-versa. Players will be able to dismember enemies, a force that will become more useful as the game progresses. There are many more ways to kill enemies, ranging from throwing a tank at a group of Blackwatch soldiers, hacking off a mutant's head or using the tendrils.

Very first game OT I've created, so mock away :p

I'm a HUGE Hulk: UD fan and heralded Prototype as a great game, until some time passed and I felt cheated about the "Cheats" menu, and some general lack of polish. I just can't get excited about this one.

Man, that live-action trailer is unintentionally hilarious. Possibly an all-time nadir for the "moody music and slow-mo in an attempt to imbue an action game with unearned emotional significance" trend.

Great OT, simple but all the basic information is there

I thought the first one was great, I loved the pseudo stealth element in consuming different people to gain access to different levels, infiltrating a whole base and killing everyone without anyone noticing was incredibly fun.

That subtitle is PERFECT. Literally what every mainstreamer will be saying when (hell, IF) they get wind of this game.

Not hyped for this but I want to give it a go to see how they build on the formula and which of the flaws from the first game they may have fixed. Prototype was very fun when it did things right, I'll keep an eye on the impressions. Reposting my opinion from another thread because it's still how I feel about this sequel.

I just want more wall running real fast, jumping real high and fucking shit up while I shoot/slice. Hopefully the sequel has (way) more polish and less overly long broken ass bosses like Greene and the Supreme Hunter.

edit: also a map that checks where you already got an orb. uuuuugh.

Hmmrmph? I'm missing something here. Not seeing how more realistic AI helps to solve this particular problem.

Running up buildings, jumping off them and gliding, and slaughtering helpless people in the first game was a blast. Will buy this when the price drops which probably won't take too long. Hope the difficulty is more even this time around, the latter half of P1 got insane.

If by realistic they mean "more human like" then it could solve the problem. AI that performs too perfectly can become an annoyance rather than being challenging.

Pre ordered. Been trying to get the first one finished by tomorrow. Think ill be starting this on the weekend sometime. No time anymore:(

Thoroughly enjoying the first one though.

I really enjoyed the first one, so I hope that this one turns out well. It certainly looks like are keeping that feeling of truly being powerful compared to the rest of the game world.

The commercial for this is cheesy as hell.

Also the first game sold over 2 million copies. What is the matter with you people?

*minor spoilers*

Graphics are pretty great, but it's not really that different from Prototype 1 so far, and I just got to the third island.

But there's 1 thing about it that's very annoying; there are several instances of "camera zoom events", for example, the camera suddenly zooms into specific areas of a mob you're supposed to hit -- and this pauses the gameplay in a way, and it happens a lot. Which areas of a mob to hit, where to go, who to consume, and these interruptions are very, very annoying when you're in the middle of a huge fight (You'll be fighting a lot.) -- it breaks up the flow of the gameplay.

It's been awhile since I played Prototype 1, but I was disappointed in the lack of new abilities/skills in this game. Very disappointed. The only new thing seems to be the Tendril thing, which is split up into 3 (So far.) abilities; grab someone and hit Square on PS3 and they'll tendril lots of stuff around them; hit triangle + circle and you'll do a massive tendril burst (Devestator.), and the normal attack which you can map to either square or triangle; hold whichever button you mapped it to for a little while and they get a much longer reach, or you can just press the button and you'll hit whatever is pretty much directly in front of you.

I think there's still 1 ability I haven't gotten yet though.

There are also some "skill trees" that lets you upgrade various things like health, damage (Melee, ranged weapons, tanks, helicopters, etc.), speed, jump height. You have to finish side missions, or find items, etc, to upgrade these in most cases.

The first one's story was pretty lame, but the gameplay was so much fun. Definitely getting this on PC, because 60fps was a huge difference from the 30fps console version. I remember it came out around the same time as inFAMOUS, and even though inFAMOUS had a much better story, IMO, I enjoyed sandboxing in Prototype more.

I really liked Prototype even though is was a deeply flawed game. The sequel just isn't doing it for me though. Prototype wasn't a pretty game back in 2009 and now in 2012...Prototype 2 looks downright ugly. I have very little faith that they've actually fixed the originals issues. I'll keep an eye on this thread though and see what people have to say.

11 reasons why you need Prototype 2!.. 2 of them are dlc, what?

And another one is a skin...the marketing is terrible, lol.

DLC and Radnet is a bit fishy...

Radnet sounds suspiciously like an online pass to me, it too featuring gameplay abilities, which will be unlocked weekly. Reminds me of what EA did with Bad Company 2... Which fucking sucked.

Will not be buying any time soon.

Early reviews call this one good. Still on the fence.
Also, Radnet? Seriously? like RADnet?? Are we in the 90's again?? RAAAAAAAAD

How do people not know this game is coming out soon? I have seen that commercial non stop for the past 3 weeks or so.

Online and on TV.

I'll be playing this. Best open world game for mindless fun by far.

Radical has had the free action roaming formula locked down since Hulk:UD and it hasn't gotten old to me yet.

I really want to see how Sandbox games exist in a post Just Cause 2 world. The bar was set so high by that game that the ridiculousness of Prototype 1 is kind of overshadowed.
