What's more interesting is how Ruin is also going to released at 'Hardware Launch' as well.

Wonder why there's been no news regarding Ruin though...

They say hardware launch, but they don't specify what hardware.

Probably is simply that the list is not updated. I don't think that Ruin (working title) is gonna be released in a month.

I'm so very torn with the Vita. I own almost every handheld video game system that has been released so far. But, after getting burned with the 3DS launch and subsequent price drop I am apprehensive about buying Vita at launch. The proprietary memory cards with their crazy prices are scaring me away as well. But, I do reaaaaaally want to play Hot Shots Golf, Lumines, and Motorstorm :( Maybe I'll wait and see if there are any really good launch deals somewhere. I remember when the 3DS came out some places had a deal where you would get a gift card if you purchased the system and a few games/accessories.

I totally agree with you on the memory cards, but I don't think Sony has much room to drop the Vita price within the first 6-10 months. It's easy to forget how happy we all were that it was this low to begin with.

I'm going with the early bundle, and sticking with the 4GB card. At least for a while. Sony killed digital distribution for me with these proprietary sticks, so 4GB should actually be fine.

I can't wait for the marketing people to get back from vacation and start promoting those Vita games. ffs there are games coming out at launch for which we don't even have a single gameplay video.

And speaking of that, Uncharted: Golden Abyss is still not promoted in Uncharted 3.

Here's the thing: 4GB will get eaten up fast by DLC + installs, let alone downloadable games and such.

Heck, 32GB probably won't be enough in the long-term. We'll see.

I got that email too:

I just went to Best Buy and put in my pre-order for the WiFi First Ed. with free Uncharted:GA... I guess I'll have to cancel my EB preorder, but a free copy of Golden Abyss was too good to pass up. This is one launch where it really pays to be Canadian! I think I'll pick up Hot Shots Golf or Virtua Tennis 4 along with my other day one titles with the money I'm saving on U:GA...

I really wish someone would match that offer. The closest BB is ~4 hours away.

I'm going to stick with the 4GB to start with and maybe download one game at launch. I'm holding out for third party memory cards eventually.

I wonder why there's so much vagueness surrounding Gravity Rush. Amazon changed its release date to sometime at the end of May, and still doesn't have a picture for the product. The Official PS Blog does say "Launch Window," but surely we'd have a more concrete date by now? It's the only Vita must-have for me at the moment, even though I am cushioning the launch with about four other titles.

Not like you think. Retail games off cart install but just to be seen in the UI. Downloads do not install from what I've seen in videos. They install like retail games but that's it. Someone clarify that.

That makes sense, but PS3-like game installs don't for the reason ascii42 posted. Can't imagine those installs taking up significant amounts of memory. Few hundred KB each probably, unless some are animated.

Sony's site says hardware launch? That would imply the 22nd.

While I'm not expecting some sort of huge price drop, I do want to hold off on pre-ordering until I know what all the deals are. I remember with the 3DS I pre-ordered from Amazon, but then Toys R Us had a deal where if you bought the system and a game you got another game for free. There were also deals to buy 2 or so games and get 1 free. No point in pre-ordering early only to miss all the launch deals.
Are there any deals in the US yet? I think Target was offering $20 credit but I haven't seen anything else.

The site above does say "hardware launch," but the official blog, which has been updated more recently, said "launch window," and they defined that to be within a month of hardware launch. I think it's the fact that I depend on Amazon's information too much, and as of late, particularly with Vita software, it's been all over the place.

So what do you actually use data for with the Vita if you do your shop stuff and downloads through wi-fi? Internet Browsing?

Kind of steep. But no contracts are nice. If only their data rolled over like their minutes.

What exactly would I be doing over 3G though? Other than using the web browser in the porcelain reading room, I'm drawing a blank. Certainly not gaming or downloading games from PSN.

Using GPS for Near and other similar applications is all really.

Oh, so it's $14.99 per month for 250MB.

It's not like for 250MB you pay $14.99.

Damn.

Hmm, no term contracts ... I wasn't going to go for 3G at all, but that's quite interesting actually. I would consider that for sure. With some prudence I could get a year's worth of tweets, friend status and highscore updates and messages, trophy synching and forum browsing out of that $25 2GB plan I think ... Oh yeah and of course the near tourism game. :D

They talk more about the use cases in their press release.

You can engage in gameplay in the sense of asynchronous, turn based multiplayer. It'll keep you connected, you can download new content in some senses (e.g. if you had LittleBigPlanet, you can browse and play new levels on the train or the bus or whatever).

It's a convenience thing, basically, to be able to stay connected in every sense anywhere up to, but excluding, downloading big games and playing realtime mp.

I don't think it works like you think it works... I believe that it is $25 per month with a 2GB limit. The no term contracts mean you don't have to sign up for a 1 or 2 year contract.

In addition, once PlayStation Vita owners activate their 3G/Wi-Fi unit with one of AT&T's data plans, they will be eligible to choose one free download from a list of select games available on the PlayStation®Store.

Really wish I knew what those list of "selected" titles were. If it were something worthwhile it would 100% push me into a 3G model.

You'd essentially have to pay $65 for it ($50 extra for the 3G version of Vita + $15 for the 1 month of 3G coverage). But if it was something like, say, Uncharted (something I'm going to buy already regardless --- which of course it won't be). Then I'd basically be getting the 3G model for an extra $15 at that point.

If I was a betting man I'd say Wipeout/Modnation/Hot Shots Golf. The $29.99 games.

That would be fantastic if true.

Is it old news that the Vita will get Sony's biggest marketing campaign yet?
I'll believe it when I see it. They're six weeks out and are already launched in one major territory. There is no buzz on the ground level with the non-core gamers as far as I can tell. I could stand outside of any of the 50 GameStops in my city with a Japanese model, and I doubt 10% of the customers would know what it is.

I get that they're just now starting to fuel up the hype train, but it's going to be a slow exit from the station.

Damn, I was really hoping that AT&T would let us purchase blocks of data. I knew that was a long shot.

Now I'm really torn on picking up a 3G vita. Near seems really cool, but that's about all I'd use the 3G for. I could still play Hot Shots asynchronous multiplayer over Wi-fi when I'm at home.

And if I drop my 3G early access bundle, I'll save $100 over the Wi-Fi model. Hmm....

was already getting the First Edition bundle but depending on the list of games to get free I will definitely be getting the $15 plan for the first month o_O
