PS1 games worth hunting down.

1254.jpg

Tales of Destiny 1/2(still hunting for another copy of 2 after selling my first one in a fit of poorness) - Great, fun games.

Colony Wars (3 games but the first is the best IMO), WarHawk and Ace Combat 3 Jpn Version.

These three are very rare and very good. If you like shooters you should track em down.

Zanac X Zanac
Castlevania: SOTN
Castlevania Chronicles
Silhouette Mirage
Xenogears
Chrono Cross
Shienryu (Gekioh Shooting King)
G Darius
Gradius Gaiden
R-Type Delta
DonPachi/DoDonPachi

Raystorm
Raycrisis
R-Type Delta
Bust a Groove 1&2
Jumping Flash 1&2
Final Fantasy Tactics (greatest hits easy to find)
Castlevania SOTN (same as FFT)

Here's a few goodies:

Intelligent Cube
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
Klonoa
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Parappa the Rapper
R-Types
Tomba
Pocket Fighter
Mega Man Legends

I assume Hitokage still has Valkyrie Profile:P

But yeah, Persona 1 and 2 are amazingly good too as I'm sure I've told ya before.

Suikoden II
Not sure why (never owned it) but people who have seem to really really like the game

Tomba! (1 not 2)
platformer with hundreds of (or at least many dozens of) events (think JRPG quests)

R-Type Delta
A PSX R-Type game that isn't supposed to suck...haven't been able to find it, personally

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
“Metroidvania” at it's finest...don't let diluted Aria geeks tell you otherwise

The Unholy War
Guilty pleasure of mine...multiplayer arena based combat with fantasy characters. Optional hex-based board game like mode.

Yeah, I managed to score a new copy of VP a long while ago before ebay was the only option. I also have Vagrant Story, C Trigger , C Cross, FF4-9, FFT, Warhawk, and WOXL/WO3.

in addition to the ones already mentioned...

Xevious 3D+G
Bushido Blade 1 (skip 2)
Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha (the first 3D Street Fighter is the only one worth a damn)
Legend of Tron Bonne
Silent Hill 1
R4

Valkyrie Profile
Star Ocean 2
Tales of Destiny 1 and 2
Arc the Lad Collection
Xenogears
SaGa Frontier 2 (if only to see some of the most beautiful graphics ever in a game)
CV:SOTN
Metal Gear Solid
Vandal Hearts
Wild Arms 1
Alundra (tough as balls action RPG from the makers of Landstalker)
Breath of Fire 3 (long as hell RPG)
Rhapsody (Nippon Ichi's first game)
Front Mission 3
Grandia
Lunar:Silver Star
Final Fantasy Anthology (games are better on SNES/SFC though)
Final Fantasy Chronicles (games are better on SNES/SFC though)
FF7 (easy to track down)
Bushido Blade (damn, can't believe I sold this to get LUNAR :()
Einhander
Suikoden 1 (I didn't like 2 - plus it goes for over $80 on ebay)

Alundra
Difficult action RPG from the people who brought us Landstalker. Quite possibly the only Working Designs localization that doesn't go overboard with humor.

Bomberman Party Edition
The only good Bomberman game on PlayStation. Get a multitap (and four friends) to go with it.

Darkstalkers 3
...unless Capcom announces Darkstalkers Collection for PS2 in North America or whatever part of the world you're in.

Dragon Warrior VII
The granddaddy of console RPGs returns. Now with plot.

Grandia
What Final Fantasy would have become if the battle system hadn't stopped evolving after IV (until it was replaced in X).

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile
Perfected the 2.5D platformer. Good luck finding it. You'll need it (or a boatload of money).

Norse by Norsewest
Sequel to The Lost Vikings. More of the same, but nothing was wrong with the original.

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
Pokemon for adults. RPG with strong demon negotiating/training/capturing elements. Megami Tensei spinoff. Extremely dark.

Puzzle Star Sweep
Falling (or rather, launching) block puzzle game. Only good game in Agetec's A1 Games (read: $10) lineup.

Those'll keep you busy for a while.

Bishi Bashi - the original Wario Ware

Vib Ribbon - hard to find and impossible to play

Norse by Norsewest - Lost Vikings rules

Incredible Crisis - pure weirdness

Parrappa - the rapper

Um Jammer Lammy - the grunge sheep

GTA Collection - I still like dem ol' 2d chestnuts

Civilisation - the only console version, therefore the best console version

Jumping flash was wonderfull!. This 3d-plattformer was released before Mario 64, but even with this info, Mario 64 is still touted as the first 3d-plattformer <insert evil face here> :D

Otherwise, i still love Ridge Racer.. i still havent found it in any second hand stores :(
I only have Ridge Racer revolution, and its not as good... no far away as good :(

Rage Racer, Ridge Racer type 4 (with the RR hires demo), Einhänder, Xenogears, Kula (a great puzzle.. eh kind of game) hm.. what more did I enjoy, i guess i really liked Colin McRae rally 1 aswell. Me and my brother used to play that alot.

Very good choices so far:

More to recommend:

G-Police 1
One
Disrupter
Fighting Force
Crash Team Racing
Parasite Eve
Fear Effect 1 & 2
Die Hard Trilogy
MDK

DJ : Yes, i enjoyed Rayman 1 aswell on the PSX.
But it was stupid hard for me in that music-level.. i remember i never beat that level.

Hellz yea this game was insanely hard, esp at the end where you had to fight Mr dark int eh candy world.

I had trouble with the slipperyness of the music level as well for a while but finally got past it.
I didn't realise that level wasn't slippery on other consoles, I know the Jaguar version of this board was a snap, not sure about the Saturn version.

Raiden I+II Best (only?) version of Raiden 2 you can play at home.

Hell yea, I loved that combo game release.

With this game, Ridge Racer and Rayman 1 the PSX had the best console release of any in the first 6 months ever.

Rayman 1, simply the best 2d platformer ever.
Hell yes!

If you haven't played this game yet then I highly recommend it...also...Alundra is hard mainly due to the puzzles not really the combat

The only PS1 games that I still play are Crash Team Racing, Twisted Metal 2, and Street Fighter Alpha 2.

If I had a copy of Vigilante 8 sitting around, I might play it just for the soundtrack...

Capcom and their whacky fighting game titles. :lol

Anyone rember the game Tunnel B-1?

It was like a first person shooter, only you were controlling a vehicle through these tunnels & corridors...

Damn that game was hard, but it had some nice graphics, crazy explosions/effects, & decent musical score...

1. Street Fighter Zero 3
2. Street Fighter Zero 2.
3. Fear Effect 1 & 2
4. Klonoa: Door To Phantomile.
5. Ace Combat 3.
6. Metal Gear Solid.
7. GunGage.
8. R-Type Delta.
9. Gran Turismo 1 & 2
10. Ridge Racer Type 4 (lots of style, sucky gameplay)

I remember Tunnel B-1 cause the music was made by ... eh the same guy who made the music for Amigas turrican 2, and Oil Imperium. wtf was his name?..

Glad I wasn't the only one to remember :)

Too bad the development studio died after being acquired by Infogrames...

Chris Huelsbeck was his name!. I actually chatted with him a few years ago, in a irc-channel about his hometown :)

And yes, Ridge Racer Type 4 wasnt as hardcore to finish as Ridge Racer.

Cool... He did a good job with Tunnel B-1... The music was a mixture of intense & dramatic :)
