Yes, the game is totally based on what comes after where the Anime in stores ends.

The anime is really goes through the middle of Vol. 13 and leaves out a lot of the stuff pertaining to the larger story arc. If you want to know what happens to Gattsu and Griffith and what you're looking at in the trailer, read the manga.
