PS2 shipments at 96M.

Hardware up and Software down?

Sounds like people rebuying their PS2s to me.*

*Which isnt a bad thing since sony makes money off hardware.

Those were multi-console owners being flung out, damned to the bottom of the human pile for all eternity.

Ask people at the French launch for the PS2, becuase that's what it looked like since Sony sent a low supply there.

Hey you stats posters:

Does this make the PS2 the best selling HOME console ever by any chances?
I think i recall the NES having a tremendous 92 millions users and it was like the best
selling home console ever...

here is another homework assignment project for stats-age: what region has the highest PS2/population ratio? I would guess its japan. (smallest share of PS2s sold, but a much lower population than NA/EU)

edit: that David Lynch PS2 ad is fuckin' creepy!

NES was never anywhere near 92 million. More like 60 million. PSone still has the record, but that is from 10 years, this is just one generation/5 years though, this is pretty much unpresedented. PS2 was released exactly 5 years ago yesterday in North America.

Nope. PS1 is the best-selling. IIRC, it's somewhere around 120 million. I'm sure someone (jarrod, sonycowboy?) else has the exact number.

Yep the PSone is still the best selling, the PS2 is the second best selling.

Can you believe in just 2 generations/10 years time Sony is going to amount to 200 million home consoles sold?! It's pretty rediculious.

I wonder how long it will take them to reach 1 billion :lol

Not quite.

http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/index_e.html

2005/09/30 102.49 million units (Japan: 21.59 million/ USA: 40.78 million/ Europe: 40.12 million)
PS2 will match that by the end of the fiscal year. It should be at 101M if Sony hits their new shipping target of 14M for the FY05. PS2 should hit 120M pretty easily, in a couple of years. PEACE.

The PS is now at 102.49 million units which means Sony shipped 760K in the first 9 months of this year. Who the hell still buys that thing?

They haven't shipped ANY the past 2 quarters. It is officially dead and I'm 100% sure it's been out of production since that last unit shipped 6-9 months ago. I thought it might crawl to 105M.

However, I'm working on a thread regarding possible forecasts and future for the PS2 in the coming years based various views on the PS1's lifecycle. Basically, it's now completely impossible that the PS2 will less than 125M units by the time all is said and done, and there is significant upside to that as well. Also, wanna try and speculate what that will mean to 3rd parties for how they handle PS2 software over the next 3 years.

We'll see a lot more FF12 and Black type games for the PS2 for the next 2 years.

Oops, didn't notice that it's stayed the same since the end of the fiscal year.
