PS3 2.0 firmware details posted [confirmed?]

Another one-off leak.

No more news until Midnight, Sony will be calling home the ninjas.
Firmware update tomorrow (day after for PAL-land)
details on firmware update scarce to say the least. Doesn't sound legit. to me:
Custom wallpaper, music playback in game, SPU algoritm for upscaling DVDs and PS2 games.

I thought I'd post it.. I don't know much about hardware but I was told the PS3 can't upscale. Techy speculation commence.

posted at the Gamer's Day thread so... once again. grain of salt.

They would still miss a deflicker software for 480i :(

It's just as much important as upscaling imo.

I've played a PS3 on a 480i-only set numerous times (Sony Wega) and have never noticed a bit of flicker, either in PS3 games or PS2/PS1.

How bad is it? What kind of set?

Motorstorm is pretty flickery at times, you'll notice it in the menu, but you can see it when the game is running, especially when the camera is panning in the third person perspective before you actually start racing.

On a 480i set mind you.

If there is a firmware update, it will be out tonight at midnight, as most firmwares are (and usually the day before the Thursday update).

But I doubt it. :(

I've heard of bricked Wiis and 360s after FW updates, but not PS3s, have you?

I'd say they're doing something right.

Bricked consoles in the 360's case have nothing to do with the updates. Nothing. It's a hardware flaw.

Tell that to all the people who's system died during or just after a firmware update

Maybe it's your TV having a deflicker?
I own a 32 inch Panasonic TAU CT-27SX32.

Maybe most TVs are having a deflicker, it is something i honestly don't know. Judging from my TV though, it seems the PS1 and PS2 had a deflicker effect because if i play SOTN in my PS2 (or in a PS1), the image doesn't shake. When i play SOTN in the PS3 it's an earthquake. Even some PS3 games are shaky when played in 480i.

I find it very odd that the PS3 doesn't have a deflicker effect while the PS2 and PS1 had especially since most owners are still on CRT and using 480i.

OMG he's not lying...I found it.

Timing firmware to a US Gaming event is near impossible methinks, considering it originates from Japan and we all know how well SCEA, SCEE and SCEJ communicate with each other.

But, I'd love love love to be wrong. And belvedere...no link? :(

Visualante made a website where people could anonymously send off Gamer's Day info. He's posting the info he's getting in the gamer's day thread.

I really, really doubt we'll be getting upscaling just yet.
Irony is that scaling of BC and Video content is one of the most trivial things they could add - and far and away easier then things such as XMB access during gameplay, and yet it may be one we'll have to wait for longest.

I just saw this thread so this is probably old and not important by now but the l/p for the press site is SCEA/SC3APR

its written at the bottom of many press releases

What is the "l/p"???? What does your post mean?

Gamer's Day embargo is gone. I guess there was nothing about firmware 2.0?

Again, I got all excited for nothing :(. No new PS3/PSP model, no price cuts, no new firmware.

So....

No store updates today/tomorrow ? There used to be a thread about the new stuff each Wednesday or earlier.
What happened ?

According to a Montreal journalist present to the Sony Gamer's Day that collected questions from readers of his blog, the 2.0 FW is not something that will happen soon. :(

Putting aside some limited hardware scaling modes, the PS3 can upscale just fine - it just has to do it in software. Since Sony completely own the firmware they can do anything they like there for up / downscaling. Whether they can do anything useful with PS2 games seems doubtful, but there is no reason at all that a DVD can't be output at a higher resolution.

Should have known sony doesn't have it **** together....

The ps3 has been out for over 6 months and they still haven't fix the major problems.

*sigh*

Now that there is zero overlap from 1.8 to 2.0, it's looking more and more real to me.
Agreed. From my post on the first page of this thread:

Wow, after this, all that's left is DVD upscaling, 720p Blu-Ray, and PSX/PS2 upscaling :) oh and all the stuff coming along with Home like the P2P stuff. I hope this comes out ASAP because that's an AMAZING list if true.

It's just too right to be a coincidence here.

Unless we get a 1.9 update (add custom soundtracks, divx support, and fix upscaled psx fmv audio lag at 1080i/p plz sony), I'm expecting Firmware 2.0 at the end of June :)

Whoa... hold the fvck up. This is really true?

On 1upyours john says 2.0 is coming and will give you access to crossbar in game and some other stuff.

Yeah, I noticed that John mentioned that. More support that this "leak" of the 2.0 firmware might be true even though the source says "not to trust anything unless it comes from Sony."
