Yeah, I don't get the MGS4 hate. MGS4 is the best looking realtime game we've seen this gen, without question. That's not really up for debate. Its models are as good as any we've seen in 8days.

It's kind of stupid to downplay demos for not being "real games" when the console is still months from being released and some of the games aren't even due until 2007.

There are so many subtle details in that trailer that were not apparent when it was first seen at E3.
 
I dunno. CG movie made out of some ingame assets? Cars probably broke apart, station blew up based on real time comparison. Some stuff just looked too good, like how the characters animated

If they cna do that in real time then I'll be impressed
 
I know someone somewhere on the board has probably already mentioned or confirmed it...

but are all the CG criers a little quick to jump the gun?

Scripted is one thing; that kinda stuff happens in released games during cutscenes.

But CG is another.

Either way, it's probably more CG in the sense that RE4 on PS2 and DMC3 movies are FMV (given that the assets for the most part are achievable and so are the physics), then in the way Motorstorm or Killzone 2 are CG (target render style).

In pestul's perfect world, SDF members can't possibly be playing current games and enjoying them while also looking forward to future games.
 
The only other game which IMO can compete with MGS4s character models is Naughty Dogs game. Kittonwy where do you keep that Whatever! What? image, its a pretty good shot showing the great detail in the ND character. :)

Man, Naughty Dog's game does look amazing. Did you mess with the lighting on that pic? I recall it looking brighter. Anyway, it just goes to show that the hate the PS3 receives, despite these amazing looking titles, is just so off the mark. I mean, where are the 360 games that look as good as MGS4 or Naughty Dog's title?

You mean like this? For some reason the non-direct feed trailer shots show more contrast and the HDR lighting is more apparent.

I'm positive alot of that trailer was subtle hints at how it will look. The fighting segments, the over the shoulder view when shooting. Infact I'm pretty sure they (Naughty Dog) confirmed this in an IGN interview

They did. Naughty Dog has already confirmed that what they showed is representative of what gameplay will look like. Naughty Dog doesn't lie.

Some people still question MGS4. People doubt Naughty Dog's game. Lair is thought to be CGI. Just look at this thread, with the skepticism 8days has elicited.

personally i'm not questioning mgs4 and it does look amazing. but i guess the reason why people doubt the naughty dog game is because of the high amount of aa and af in the video and in the screenshots. i am very suspicious of every 360 screenshot with 16xaa. and i think che 'confirmed' at some point (here on gaf) that lair is in fact cg.

It was a real time cutscene and some CG, but people couldn't tell the difference between the 2 so they just said everything was CG.

Wells: The entire trailer was rendered in real-time using our PS3 game engine. All of the models, textures, shaders and effects are in-game.

Naughty Dog has so many good game designers now I have no doubt they can pull it off, hopefully they can get Amy Hennig to contribute to the story as well, she's a great writer.

I have no idea whether Lair was realtime at E3 but Facotr 5 has already shown realtime footage of Lair at last year's Playstation Meeting and at GDC.

Carefully cut, lit and directed trailers with canned animation shouldn't really be compared to playable games at all. Especially not accross platforms. No matter what machine it was rendered on and whether it was at 3 or 30fps.

oh i'm not doubting the naughty dog game (besides the aa). i'm just curious as to how the actual gameplay will look.

In times of per pixel lighting and sub-pixel polygon sizes, other things are going to make or break the illusion.

If you take the impressive assets from any of these real time trailers and add genji2 like turn-in-place animations, it's going to look only half as good instantly. I doubt there is anything in these trailers (if real time) that the 360 couldn't do equally well but why am I bothering, kojima already established that :)

Point is, canned realtime trailers don't tell you how good a game will look during gameplay. More so this gen than other gens before it.

But FFXIII isn't an action game like Genji 2, its turnbased RPG in which case the majority of the time you're going to be seeing it in cutscene like sequences.

Why does this always turn into a "But...I doubt there's anythign the 360 couldn't do". As for the Kojima comment, you might not want to go there because he's changed his stance since TGS.

That's a pretty meaningless statement. Until it's shown that the system can do it -- have an rpg that looks as good as FFXIII, or an action title that compares to Naughty Dog's title -- the suggestion that the 360 is capable of similarly impressive games holds zero weight.

To tell you the truth none of the ps3 games haven't impressed me yet.
 
All Kojima said was that he'd never develop a Metal Gear Solid game on another platform because it wouldn't be fair to that platform, and that he'd want to make an exclusive version if he ever did.

Is that what you're talking about?

Oh man please don't make me show you any Gears of War shot please. That looks better than any real time game from any system so far.

No he was asked at E3 if the 360 could do MGS4 and he said yah it would be different but he can bring the "essence" of MGS to any system, including the Wii.
