PS3 @ E3: "Change The Gam3"

Kind of obvious, but Sony marketing > MS & Nintendo marketing.

Also, whats upw ith 'Chang3', is it refering to the new generation or is Sony really coming out with something that different. I'm hoping its the later and they just make people wet their damn pants at the show.

Copme on, come on do the Pana PS3 dance.

BTW, between May 16th and May 17th Panajev will be on coffee 24 hours a day: I do not plan to sleep. Gamespot LIVE here I come :D.

well, i've been hearing since about november or so that PS3 is gonna have some unexpected stuff.

they could just go ultra force full multimedia (which should be expected anyways i think), but i dunno.

i get the feeling Sony's theme for the press conference is gonna be "10 Years Later....Now What?"

The shapes are cut in half. Could it mean that Sony is finally changing their stubborn ways and releasing a controller with letter-buttons?

Imho they are referring to the next generation PlayStation.

Why would they change and be like everyone else? They've worked their shapes into their marketing campaigns so its something here to stay thankfully.

it seems clear that Sony intends to CHANG3 the familar tri, cicle, square, x butten setup. what this means, who knows. keanue reeves style interface? :lol something new. we'll see.

I doubt they'd change the symbols, I assume it would be harder for consumers to play PS1 and PS2 games on it, or it would be confusing.

I think the tri circle square x shown in half is just a cryptic allusion to the PS brand. They're being cool about their campaign.. not in you face. the whole thing makes you thing

1) what are those symbols. OH PLAYSTATION

2) what is that number? 3? OH PLAYSTATION 3

The fact that the poster/billboard is at E3 is pretty much moot but it declares SONY'S hand. It fucking classy and well, WOOT!!~~!~!!

:D :) :D :)

itd be funny if sony creates an interface that would make ports from the ps3 impossible or very difficult. default exclusivity. Doubt it'l happen.

How much cooler is that than OurColony :lol

Seriously, MS should have just saved themselves the bother and bought a few billboards.

This could be a tenuous observation, but take another look at the symbols on the large billboard. They almost spell out LOSE. It might be deliberate, games companies have always used gaming terms, such as 'game over', 'win' and 'lose', and 'extra life'.

if the sony-mac thing is true that could be huge.

360 and ps3 seem to be sticking to their multimedia station approach.

Highly doubt the billboard has anything to do with Sony getting rid of the PlayStation symbols.

PS3 + Apple iTunes/iPod would be big.

Hell, just imagine the further implications, if they're planning really big things. Mac + CELL + Blu-Ray + PlayStation 3 + iPod = Hi, Microsoft.

*gets a boner*

Well people are saying that Sony's got the real megaton, and I can't imagine that its KoTOR3 as some have said. This Apple thing would make alot more sense.

I was worried about the utter lack of PS3 hype and PS3 marketing. Everywhere I looked only ants, lots of ants...

I'm not worried anymore.

The sleeping giant... slowly awakes...

Another interesting thing to think about: Apple has just recently added videos to some of it's singles in iTunes (ie the music video for the Gorillaz' song "Feel Good" being offered with the purchase of the single), and these videos have been formatted in the exact pixel proportions as the PSP screen (and of course, are in the PSP supported mpeg4 format). It may be nothing, but who knows. :)

Damn, if this proves out to be true it would be a megaton of unimaginable proportions. A Sony + Apple + IBM + Toshiba partnership would be the coolest event of the millenium. I could lose sleep until monday now...

OMFG...

- iTunes & iTMS support in PS3
- Conectivity PS3-PSP-iPod
- PSP videos at iTMS
- PS3 user interface at apple's hands
- PS3 wifi enables airport iTunes shared libraries to play on the console (?)

BURNING INDUSTRY.

Microsoft DOOMED FOR EVER & EVER. (Xbox 360 AND MS Media center)

yeah, if you go to the gorillaz fan site, there's the same video, in the same format and size, but it says 'just for your psp'
i think it's the same source as the iTunes one.

why do some of you think that PS3 will have connections to Ipod/itunes? I mean, the last thing they want is to draw that connection:

1) IPOD rape rapes PSP

2) IPOD rapes rape MD + Discman

3) MS already said X360 will allow connectivity to Ipod

doing so would just convert more consumers to Ipod which is a direct competitor to Sony's line of merchandise. We all know that their consumer division is already in hot water. How is that going to help? Plus if Sony wants to sell PSPs as a media device, then all the more reason for them to avoid IPOD connections (point 1 clarified)

God, the Sony hype is really something of an enigma. It's like I thought I was excited about 360 and all it has taken is a couple of billboard ads to make me completely shift focus on Sony.

Just when I thought M$ was gaining mind share and power, I suddenly realise they never had it in the first place :p

MS is allowing connectivity to any device that accepts USB connections... the talk here is more of a unified interface not just with the Ipod, but with iTunes as well.

And I know the media keeps talking it up like it's real but come on... the Ipod and PSP are not direct competitors(nor would this be the first time that competitors in one product worked together to enhance another).

No one walks in to a store and says... hmm Ipod or PSP? Right now Sony is focused on drumming up game support and UMD movie support for the PSP... two things that don't cross over in to Ipod territory at all.

Do I believe this apple/sony bit? Not really I haven't heard much about it. IS it possible? Definitely.

Sony has MP3 players and CD players.

Though I do agree to extent about most of what you're saying, I still think it is a possibility.

If you go watch the MacWorld 2005 keynote (which just took place in January) here, and watch it from 50:00 to 60:00, it really seems like Apple and Sony may be planning something. Steve Jobs starts off praising Sony extremely highly, saying how he loves their products and important a company they are, they're the best video company in the world (talking about camcorders and HD video), etc, and how that they may be friendly competitors in a lot of areas such as music and computers, they also work very closely together in a lot of other areas, and then toward the end he says that maybe someday they will work closely with computers and music as well.

I mean, take that for what you will, I personally am still not expecting anything as far as Sony + Apple, but it is certainly fun to speculate. :)

I'm not sure how much input Apple will have on the PS3 interface - I am pretty sure Sony will be using their own Cross Media Bar (XMB) interface as they have in PSX and PSP.

Although I do think Apple could give them some usability lessons in various departments.

Are you even saying that gasoline costs 2,61$/g in the USA???

That makes more or less 0,5€/L, 3 times less than in europe.

iTunes linkup - Access iTunes and your music through the PS3. Purchase and download additiona tracks through the PS3. Wirelessly play iTunes music from your PC/Mac through the PS3

I find this part very hard to believe. Sony has their own line of hard drive players and their own download service (Connect). Why on earth would they partner with Apple? They would be hurting sales of their own product line.

Change the Gam3 ?? Wtf.

Also, why would sony hamstring their own portable media division by choosing ipod connectivity ?

Maybe their own product line sales are low enough that they not lose that much and if additionaly they get a few percent of every iTunes song downloaded from iTunes through the PS3, it could be the perfect solution for them.

The chances of PS3/Apple partnership are extremely slim IMO, I wouldn't place too much hope in that.

Someone said that Sony was conducting interviews with some media outlets over the weekend re. PS3 in antcipation of Monday's announcement (and for release after the announcement, I guess). Chance of a leak, perhaps?

Many people are forgetting or just don't know that Sony already have hardware that supports iTunes

Sony’s NAS-CZ1 network audio system supports iTunes

http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000073040477/

This ain’t no Sony Netjuke, it’s called their new NAS-CZ1, and we’re just a bit flummoxed by the word spreading ‘round town that it’s got support for AAC with FairPlay—what many know as the format of choice by Apple, iTunes, and the iPod. If that’s true, that’d make it the first non-Apple device (that we know of, anyway) whose doors were opened to the world of the iTunes Music Store—dubious at this point, to say the least. Otherwise, we can expect it to play more of the standard fare, WMA with PlaysForSure support, Real Audio with Harmony support, MP3, and good ol’ WAV.

So it is no stretch at all for PS3 to support it out of the box.
