PS3 Home Official Thread

Right for what? A BETA having issues. Calling it a turd is your own opinion. You may not like it, but others do.

It is a turd... come on. There's so much wrong. Not only is there not much to do, but you have to wait in line to do it. It's a clusterfuck. Even if all the activities were virtualized, it's still slim pickings. That's been the problem with Home from the get-go. It doesn't offer much to compete with other games unless you REALLY love chess and the running man. Even as a chat/social interface, which seems like the one thing that Home is supposed to do do well, it's broken.

Yeah, the rest of it is accurate, but what the hell is wrong with Heavenly Sword?

Well, there are things I would say are wrong with the game, or could be better..but I wouldn't have a problem even calling it a game, as they implied people should.

It is a solid title with some hope for improvements if the series continues.

Home tries too be too many things at once without excelling at any of them.

They should have chosen a more simplistic approach instead of throwing everything including the kitchen sink without having a proper foundation.

They seriously lost their reason to be on what their primary focus of Home was meant for in the first place

I hope they fix Home in time for SF4

Uh do people understand this is still in the Beta phase, which entails an experience that probably wont match the official product.

No. The reason they call it a "beta" is because the program will be continously evolving (and so that they can release half baked and 'on time') But when you use that definition Home will always be in "Beta" so there is no official released product.

The typical 'It's a Beta d00d' excuse won't work in this scenario.

There is a problem here. A lot of people are running into this.

Lines. Ok so there are lines to the games, but guess what? HOME isn't about games. Its about socializing.

I don't think Sony is targeting an audience like those on GAF, they are targeting the casual gamer and giving them a social network.

If you are running around home just going game to game it WILL get boring, because that isn't what it is about.

Home is good if you actually have a friend, not just some random on your friends list who also happens to be in there. Have found it to be a lot of fun bowling and play pool and shit with them. If your walkin round like a nigel then its probly gonna suck for you but only cause you suck.

Until Home has spaces for all the big IPs, and has all the big latest games able to launch directly from home, not just Warhawk, and all the games have trophies, and all the trophies give home $s, then it's a fairly pointless environment, being that it's fundlementally cut off from playing PS3 games, either going into them or from then to cycle back.

What people are looking at now is a launchpad with nothing to launch to. As far as the implementation goes, right now it's great, but it's just a launch pad.

With a lot of really creepy, horny guys who have obviously never seen a female before in their life. I wish there was like a creepy guy zone we could banish them to, and they weren't allowed to leave.

I think they'll leave though when they realize they aren't going to get laid in Home, and if they do, it's with a gay guy. Maybe around that time there will be all the above changes I want, and then Home will be pretty great.

Yes, but I was right, which I really think warrants me a little respect and admiration.

There's nothing that deserves respect more than a smug asshole that comes in after something launches and says I told you so.

I've actually added some people to my firends list thanks to Home.. Believe it or not you do meet cool people within Home. Some peoples expectation have been waaay of target, so they never see Home for what it is.

Sure it has problems right now, I dont like how some things feel disjointed. And no multimedia sharing is a letdown, hopefully it will be added soonish (lulz).

Oh and ignore D(r)aft, one of the biggest trolls around.

I really think Sony would have been better off having this team pump out a game.

Home generates no additional revenue for Sony as far as I can tell and I really don't think it is gonna draw new people to the platform.

Too soon to tell.

But the biggest mistake so far is to "release" it with so little content and limited game launching support. All the fall 2008 games should have Home launching from day 1.

Another 500k-1million selling title people forget compared to that of being the first out with OS native MMO virtual world? Home, in some shape or form will be here for PS3, PS4 and beyond.

They really... I mean really should have had more game launching support.

Without the game launching it really makes me scratch my head wondering where they spent their 2+ years of development time.

It's a fun time waster to screw around with before jumping into a game. Since the beta, if I see friend there, I pop on for a few minutes, and end up being there longer than I expected. When they start populating Home with more events and goodies, I'm sure I'll drop by to check 'em out for a few minutes. Nothing more.

But some people are taking it entirely too seriously.

The fundamental idea behind Home is flawed. There is nothing they can do to fix that short of scrapping the whole thing altogether.

I don't think so. The fundamental idea behind Home is sound but the 3D UI sucks. Home can be done in 2D, 2.5D, 3D or a combination of all.

The problem is that they have too much to do. They should focus on a few features only and then create tons of content for those features. They are very close now since basic issues like scalability has been addressed. All they need to do next is to simplify the UI and create more content.

i downloaded this tripe to try it out, and i havent been able to connect, great job -_-

i cant believe they are gonna charge monthly for clubhouses next year, this thing is gonna be microrapement hell :s

Exactly. The main point is to socialize, not to go play flash/arcade games and wait in line. Thats not the point, its just there to "enrich" the environment.(something along those lines) Its great if you go there and chat with your buddies for a while before let say booting up a game and its fun. Obiously you cant do it yet but thats what its about. All of the ppl that log into Home for 5 mins and expect to be "floored" are dumb. "Oh guys this thing is shit, damn SOny fails..."

For instance, if you go to a party and have zero friends there(not knowing anyone at all) then when you go back and think about it, the party sucked! And you will tell evryone while others had a great time interacting with friends and such. Seriously ppls.

Agreed. Every dog has it's day...

The problem with that analogy is that Steam was connected to one of the most anticipated sequels in recent gaming history. People truly had to put up with that shit so they could play their precious game.

Right now, there is no incentive whatsoever to stick around in Home, other than to buy shitty shirts or raving with other unknown wackos in a line. It's borderline retarded to have shipped with so little support from devs (game launching etc.), and it's mighty obvious that they just wanted to have this as a bullet point ("hey we released Home in 2008!").

What online chat because that is the only difference

It wouldn't be nice to have cross-game invites, parties, voice chat in every game, cross-game voice chat, Trophies updating automatically, a way to easily view and compare Trophies, or the other stuff it still lacks?

No - no...online chat is the only difference.

I finally got to play bowling today. And some girl gave me her myspace link as proof of her being a girl because I was going around saying that 90% of the girls on home are guys and the 10% that are actually girls are fat and ugly nerd girls :lol

See, this whole "hang out on Home until your buds come online and shoot the shit then go game" would be fine if Home wasn't so slow to load and clunky to use, and it would also be fine if you could launch games (ANY game, not a select few coded for Home) from the system. As it is now, after years in development, you can't launch games from the system, so you are literally saying the point of Home is to spend the time to go online and clunk around the world, meet up with your friends (Hopefully they're in the same instance!), then log off, and launch the game from XMB as usual.

Is this a joke?

I hope not. I deleted Home last night. Sony should have kept 8 Days and cancelled Home.

ok, so i finally got connected... wtf is this shit? :lol clothing 59p each, furniture 79p each, clubhouse 3.99 (monthly fee next year when out of beta) this is a joke right?

Those clubhouses better have in house strippers by the time the open beta ends... monthly fee, fukking ridiculous.

This is Living

But seriously I agree that the item prices are way too high. Home items shouldn't use real world money. They should have a system where $1 real world = $500 home money.

Don't worry. When absolutely nothing sells well they will go back and redo their business model.

Demand your money back!

Seriously it's a cart and horse issue, they need to release it to get people on baord, but then the drama queens complain it's not complete. Don't use it.

I repeat, if you don't like it, don't use it.

Hopefully it continues to grow and the people who like it are happy and then they can pull in new users.

Kicking around Home, and a question -> is the Trophy Room thingy implemented yet, or am I missing it somewhere?

Only complaint I have is about waiting in virtual lines. Completely ridiculous, in my opinion.

Everything else is pretty much exactly what I expected, and I reaaaaaally want to play that Red Bull Air Race/ game.

Or they could just use items as rewards for "points" you acquire through games, like say assigning point values to trophies.

Bronze = 10 pts.
Silver = 30 pts.
Gold = 50 points.
Platinum = 500 points

Of course, that's just not how things are done these days.

EDIT: Also, I'm pretty sure I remember Phil Harrison or someone mentioning that the basic features of Home would be available through the OS, in response to everyone who was asking, "Why do we have to go into Home to do these things?" Lies? I just want cross-game voice chat, honestly.

Home reminds me of Fable II in a lot of ways, the "but why?" theory. There's "cool" stuff to do..but why would I want to do it. It feels like Home exists just to exist, it serves no real purpose, just like Fable II!

Developers can tie trophies to items they create within home if they wish. So I would expect at least some to do that.

Ha. The Far Cry 2 space is where I decided that I'd let Sony take another couple of years to play with Home before I give it another shot. It was...just a room. About the size of a living room...that's it, nothing there. Nothing interesting to look at either. With about 50 confused people with their background noise; parents yelling, babies crying, etc. Why the hell is that even there?

Different regions = different Homes? To what extent?

StateofMind said:

to what... HAHAHAHAH

we have a super sucky plaza with NOTHING (no ufo game), our cinema won't even let you watch together a trailer... we don't have game space, we don't have clubs....

it's FUCKING RIDICULOUS

They should have promoted Home as a place for online social networking, or a glorified version of Myspace/Facebook. The ability to launch games, the game spaces, the theater with constant commercials, all of that stuff could have waited, and they could have focused more on bringing media to everyone's pointless apartment and had the ability to invite friends over (and make your own posters for your apt on day one). And a company with experience to handle such a thing should have helped them out (Maxis people could have given a helping hand since they've had experience with The Sims series).

And when the social networking aspect had come to fruition, only then should they have started an open beta, while keeping the gaming aspects on a mum. Then slowly but surely, build upon integrating it with what gamers want (better trophy support, better arcades and no lines, game launching, more game spaces with fun things to do besides look at artifacts and sit in chairs). This would have made so much more sense.

But instead, they tried doing all things at once, and well... it's a mess. As it stands, it's not what has been developed (as of yet) that makes Home fun, it's the people (congo lines of running man as far as the eye can see, and meetings with friends). It's really sad, because you can have the same fun elsewhere. Sure it's a beta, and even Live had taken years to live up to the hype, but they hyped this thing up and let it snowball, and had the closed beta guarded like the gamers holy grail... so of course people will be disenchanted when they actually get to play it. They've essentially made the video game form of Snakes on a Plane.

Edit: I still like it, myself. But there's no denying that it's still pretty bleh and a fucked up spectacle. It's still bleh, but it's just fucked up with more people running around now, which makes it a little more bearable.

A shirt is a full 1$ in EU Home. What? So to have a nice home in Home, you have to be a millionaire in real life.

I hope they eventually introduce vg character costumes, well, they would probably cost a pinky, so scratch that.

It's like the early positive impressions of Home made Sony to believe they could showel a shitload of nothing down our throats and make a fortune on it. Catastrophic failure.

At some point when everything has been addressed and updated, when the developers has made a bunch of content, then maybe Home will not be shit.

I've been spending my first minutes on Home, and yes, it's bare bones, but I can't help laughing at almost every female avatar being surrounded by 5 males or the stupid dance parties :D

Is it up? How do I try it? I don't see any home icon on my system.

When you sign in to PSN you should see a blue Home icon show up in the PSN column in the XMB. You launch that to download the starter files for Home.

Despite all the cryin some on here are doing, I had tons of fun on home just running around. This thing can be a hit. I bet once a similar concept appears on 360, all of a sudden, its 3d avatars in a virtual world done right. Home is a lot of fun, and it excites me that they have a lot they can add to make it even better.
